{"id":13831,"date":"2021-06-04T10:00:33","date_gmt":"2021-06-04T10:00:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/russian\/?p=13831"},"modified":"2021-05-20T03:38:37","modified_gmt":"2021-05-20T03:38:37","slug":"sputnik-v-in-kazakhstan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/russian\/sputnik-v-in-kazakhstan\/","title":{"rendered":"Sputnik V in Kazakhstan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It has been a little over a year since we&#8217;ve covered <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/russian\/how-is-russia-supporting-its-citizens-during-the-global-pandemic\/\">COVID news in Russia<\/a>, and while today&#8217;s blog is about Russia&#8217;s vaccine Sputnik V, we focus on the country&#8217;s southern neighbor, Kazakhstan.<\/p>\n<p><em>*All photos taken and used with permission from author (Akbota Yergaliyeva)<\/em><\/p>\n<h4><strong>In general<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Since the end of February, Kazakhstan has been administering Russia\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sputnik_V_COVID-19_vaccine\">Sputnik V vaccine<\/a> <strong>(<\/strong><strong>\u0421\u043f\u0443\u0442\u043d\u0438\u043a <\/strong><strong>V).<\/strong> Along with 7 other post-soviet countries (not including Russia), my home country used <strong>\u0413\u0430\u043c-\u041a\u041e\u0412\u0418\u0414-\u0412\u0430\u043a<\/strong> (Gam-KOVID-Vak) to join the global fight against the virus. Now, Kazakhstan is manufacturing its own vaccine <a href=\"https:\/\/ru.sputnik.kz\/health\/20210426\/16883126\/10-voprosov-o-QazVac.html\">QazVac (QazCovid-in)<\/a> and just like in Russia, there are a few ways the vaccine is being administered in public. Kazakhstani citizens can get vaccinated for free in shopping malls <strong>(\u0442\u043e\u0440\u0433\u043e\u0301\u0432\u044b\u0445 \u0434\u043e\u043c\u0430\u0301\u0445)<\/strong> and <strong>(\u043f\u043e\u043b\u0438\u043a\u043b\u0438\u0301\u043d\u0438\u043a\u0430\u0445)<\/strong>\u00a0public clinics. The difference with QazVac is that you have to wait for 45 days between the doses instead of Sputnik\u2019s 21 days.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>My experience<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>I got my first dose on April 9<sup>th<\/sup> and the second one on April 30<sup>th<\/sup>. <strong>\u042f \u0437\u0430\u043f\u0438\u0441\u0430\u0301\u043b\u0430\u0441\u044c \u043d\u0430 \u043f\u0440\u0438\u0432\u0438\u0301\u0432\u043a\u0443 \u0432 \u043f\u043e\u043b\u0438\u043a\u043b\u0438\u0301\u043d\u0438\u043a\u0443<\/strong> (I made an appointment to get vaccinated at a clinic) and was scheduled for that same week. Everyone, whether it was their first or second dose, had to see a nurse (<strong>\u043c\u0435\u0301\u0434\u0441\u0435\u0441\u0442\u0440\u0430\u0301<\/strong>) prior to the shot (<strong>\u0443\u043a\u043e\u0301\u043b<\/strong>) to:<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_14242\" style=\"width: 360px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright post-item__attachment\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-14242\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-14242\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/russian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2021\/05\/180712918_188286126473889_1563612389401763718_n-350x263.jpg\" alt=\"sputnik V\" width=\"350\" height=\"263\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/russian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2021\/05\/180712918_188286126473889_1563612389401763718_n-350x263.jpg 350w, https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/russian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2021\/05\/180712918_188286126473889_1563612389401763718_n.jpg 756w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 350px) 100vw, 350px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-14242\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Sputnik V (second shot)<\/p><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>Confirm ID<\/li>\n<li>Have their temperature taken<\/li>\n<li>Have their heart rate measured<\/li>\n<li>Fill out a short general questionnaire<\/li>\n<li>Sign that they were informed of possible side effects <strong>(\u043f\u043e\u0431\u043e\u0301\u0447\u043d\u044b\u0435 \u044d\u0444\u0444\u0435\u0301\u043a\u0442\u044b)<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The nurse also explained how to access one\u2019s vaccination passport <strong>(\u043f\u0440\u0438\u0432\u0438\u0301\u0432\u043e\u0447\u043d\u044b\u0439 \u043f\u0430\u0301\u0441\u043f\u043e\u0440\u0442)<\/strong> though the e-gov (Kazakhstan\u2019s digital platform for services between all governmental agencies and the public). See the photo below.<\/p>\n<p>The shot itself took less than a minute. Both were administered into my left shoulder <strong>(\u0432 \u043b\u0435\u0301\u0432\u043e\u0435 \u043f\u043b\u0435\u0447\u043e\u0301)<\/strong>. I felt immediate muscle pain after the first vaccine shot but the second one was painless. Afterwards, I had to stay in a designated waiting room for 30 min with all the other vaccinated people so that the staff could ensure our well-being. I saw the following memo posted at the entrance to my grandparents\u2019 apartment building. It comes in three languages (Kazakh, Russian, English) in a PDF format. At this point it\u2019s difficult to assess whether and how exactly it will be recognized by other countries when traveling, but Kazakhstan\u2019s Ministry of Healthcare stated that its citizens can return back to Kazakhstan <u>without<\/u> a negative COVID test if they have been fully <a href=\"https:\/\/kapital.kz\/gosudarstvo\/95342\/vaktsinirovannyye-kazakhstantsy-smogut-v-yezzhat-v-stranu-bez-ptsr-testa.html\">vaccinated<\/a>.
