Now it\u2019s time to learn Russian verbs for cooking.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<h3><strong>At the table<\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The general verb for eating is \u201c<strong>\u043a\u0443\u0301\u0448\u0430\u0442\u044c<\/strong>\u201d [kushat\u2019]. Similar to English, there are specifi\u0441 verbs for eating at different times of the day:<\/p>\n<p>\u0417\u0430\u0301\u0432\u0442\u0440\u0430\u043a\u0430\u0442\u044c [Zavtrakat&#8217;] \u2013 to have breakfast<\/p>\n<p>\u041e\u0431\u0435\u0301\u0434\u0430\u0442\u044c [Obedat&#8217;] \u2013 to have lunch<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0423<\/span>\u0436\u0438\u043d\u0430\u0442\u044c [Uzhinat&#8217;] \u2013 to have dinner<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve always considered \u201csnacking\u201d a very American thing, but there is a Russian verb \u201c\u043f\u0435\u0440\u0435\u043a\u0443\u0441\u0438\u0301\u0442\u044c\u201d [perekusit&#8217;] that describes a quick bite.<\/p>\n<p>The verb \u201c<strong>\u0437\u0430\u043a\u0443\u0301\u0441\u044b\u0432\u0430\u0442\u044c<\/strong>\u201d [zakusyvat&#8217;] means to follow up an alcoholic drink with a bite of food. Even the word for \u201cappetizer\u201d in Russian is \u201c<strong>\u0437\u0430\u043a\u0443\u0301\u0441\u043a\u0430<\/strong>\u201d [zakuska].<\/p>\n<p>When something smells deliciously appetizing, you can praise the hosts by saying:<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201c<\/em><em>\u041a\u0430\u043a \u0432\u043a\u0443\u0301\u0441\u043d\u043e \u043f\u0430\u0301\u0445\u043d\u0435\u0442!<\/em><em>\u201d [kak vkusno pakhnet]<\/em><em> \u2013 <\/em><em>[it] smells delicious! <\/em><\/p>\n<p>At the end of the meal, you can say \u201c\u042f \u043d\u0430\u0435\u0301\u043b\u0441\u044f\u201d (masc.) or \u201c\u042f \u043d\u0430\u0435\u0301\u043b\u0430\u0441\u044c\u201d (fem.) where \u201c<strong>\u043d\u0430\u0435\u0301\u0441\u0442\u044c\u0441\u044f<\/strong>\u201d [naj\u00e9st\u02b9sja] means \u201cto be full\u201d.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li>\n<h3><strong>Cooking<\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The most basic verb here is \u201c<strong>\u0433\u043e\u0442\u043e\u0301\u0432\u0438\u0442\u044c<\/strong>\u201d or \u201c<strong>\u0433\u043e\u0442\u043e\u0301\u0432\u0438\u0442\u044c \u043a\u0443\u0301\u0448\u0430\u0442\u044c<\/strong>\u201d [gotovit&#8217; When my mom says \u201c\u043f\u043e\u0448\u043b\u0438 \u043b\u0435\u043f\u0438\u0301\u0442\u044c \u043f\u0435\u043b\u044c\u043c\u0435\u043d\u0438\u201d (let\u2019s go make pel\u2019meni) she means:<\/p>\n<p>1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 spreading filling on the circle of rolled out dough.<\/p>\n<p>2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 folding the circle to create a half-moon.<\/p>\n<p>3.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 pinching the dough along the curve of the half-circle.<\/p>\n<p>4.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 pinching the corners together<\/p>\n<p>Lastly, we should cover some verbs for when things are no longer safe to consume. <strong>\u0418\u0441\u043f\u043e\u0301\u0440\u0442\u0438\u0442\u044c\u0441\u044f<\/strong> [Isportit&#8217;sya] is an all-encompassing verb to express that something went bad. <strong>\u0421\u043a\u0438\u0301\u0441\u043d\u0443\u0442\u044c<\/strong> [Skisnut&#8217;] covers dairy products that become sour and <strong>\u0437\u0430\u043f\u043b\u0435\u0441\u043d\u0435\u0432\u0435\u0301\u0442\u044c<\/strong> [zaplesnevet&#8217;] means a food item got moldy.
