You can get a <span lang=\"en-US\">domovoi.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span lang=\"en-US\">What is &#8220;<\/span><span lang=\"ru-RU\">\u0434\u043e\u043c\u043e\u0432\u043e\u0439<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">&#8220;<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span lang=\"ru-RU\"><i>\u0414<\/i><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><i>\u043e\u043c\u043e\u0432<em><span lang=\"ru-RU\">\u043e\u0301<\/span><\/em>\u0439<\/i><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> (domovoi, domovoy, or domovoj \u2013 singular, <\/span><span lang=\"ru-RU\"><i>\u0434\u043e\u043c\u043e\u0432<em><span lang=\"en-US\">\u044b\u0301<\/span><\/em>\u0435<\/i><\/span><span lang=\"ru-RU\">&#8211;<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">domovye &#8211; plural; literally, &#8220;[it] of the house&#8221;) is a house spirit in <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><i>Slavic<\/i><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> (<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><i>\u0441\u043b\u0430\u0432<em><span lang=\"ru-RU\">\u044f\u0301<\/span><\/em>\u043d\u0441\u043a\u0438\u0439<\/i><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">) <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><i>folklore<\/i><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> (<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><i>\u0444\u043e\u043b\u044c\u043a\u043b<em><span lang=\"ru-RU\">\u043e\u0301<\/span><\/em>\u0440<\/i><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">). And the domovoi is its guardian <\/span><span lang=\"ru-RU\">(<\/span><span lang=\"ru-RU\"><i>\u0441\u0442\u0440\u0430\u0436<\/i><\/span><span lang=\"ru-RU\">)<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">. Additionally, this hardworking and thrifty &#8220;person&#8221; helps around the house. To do this, take a hat or an old boot (in ancient times, peasants used <em><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bast_shoe\">\u043b<i>\u0430\u0301<\/i>\u043f\u0442\u0438<\/a> <\/em>\u2014<\/span> <span lang=\"en-US\">bast shoe).\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">Holding it in your left hand, go around the house covering the entire perimeter counterclockwise, starting from the front door.\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">At the same time, invite the domovoi to go with you.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-US\">Although <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><i>Christianity<\/i><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> (<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><i>\u0445\u0440\u0438\u0441\u0442\u0438<em>\u0430\u0301<\/em>\u043d\u0441\u0442\u0432\u043e<\/i><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">) fought against peasant belief in these supernatural beings, the shift in spirituality was slow. Thus, together with the domovye, people invited priests to bless their new homes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-US\">According to old Russian beliefs, <!-- I think that this should be the plural form \u2013 domovye live in houses... -->domovye live in houses behind the<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><i><a href=\"https:\/\/ru.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/\u041f\u0435\u0447\u043a\u0430\">\u043f<em><span lang=\"ru-RU\">\u0435\u0301<\/span><\/em>\u0447\u043a\u0438<\/a> <\/i><\/span><span lang=\"ru-RU\">(<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">old-style Russian stoves). Apparently, in the apartment, most likely, it should be somewhere in the ventilation system. At least that&#8217;s what the Soviet <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><i>fairy tale<\/i><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> (<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><i>\u0441\u043a<em>\u0430\u0301<\/em>\u0437\u043a\u0430<\/i><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">) says about the<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ru.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/\u0414\u043e\u043c\u043e\u0432\u0451\u043d\u043e\u043a_\u041a\u0443\u0437\u044f\">domovoi Kuzya<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-US\">Those who saw the domovoi with their own eyes say that it is small, covered in hair all over (even the palms of his hands), shaggy and bearded. It&#8217;s funny that during the 20th century in Russia, there were many such \u201cwitnesses\u201d who allegedly caught domovye on tape.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-US\">As you already must have gathered, domovye are kind <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><i>creatures<\/i><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> (<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><i>\u0441\u0443\u0449\u0435\u0441\u0442\u0432<em>\u0430\u0301<\/em><\/i><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">). Moreover, they can protect homes from calamities, for instance, fires, floods, or lightning strikes. For example, when your home&#8217;s atmosphere becomes tense, you are irritated, or poorly keep the household. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-US\">In this case, it turns into a <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><i>barabashka <\/i><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">(<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><i>\u0431\u0430\u0440\u0430\u0431\u0430\u0301\u0448\u043a\u0430<\/i><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">. To be honest, no one knows if this is the same or two different characters.) with <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><i>poltergeist<\/i><\/span> <span lang=\"ru-RU\">(<\/span><span lang=\"ru-RU\"><i>\u043f\u043e\u043b\u0442\u0435\u0440\u0433<em><span lang=\"en-US\">\u0435\u0301<\/span><\/em>\u0439\u0441\u0442<\/i><\/span><span lang=\"ru-RU\">)<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> behavior.\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">If you accidentally dropped your plate of pasta on the floor, you could blame the domovoi. It breaks dishes, scares children, makes a mess, and wakes people up at night banging on pots. And most importantly, it hides things. So if it&#8217;s already the second day and you can&#8217;t find the keys, ask the barabashka to return them to their place. However, keep in mind that peace and calm in the house will be its demands.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-US\">On March 30th of each year, the domovoi turns <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><i>malicious<\/i><\/span> <span lang=\"ru-RU\">(<\/span><span lang=\"ru-RU\"><i>\u0437\u043b\u043e\u0439<\/i><\/span><span lang=\"ru-RU\">) <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">from dawn until midnight. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-US\">The creaks of a home, pipes sounding, loud bangs, wind from nowhere, or a suddenly opened window can <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><i>startle<\/i><\/span> <span lang=\"ru-RU\">(<\/span><span lang=\"ru-RU\"><i>\u0438\u0441\u043f\u0443\u0433<span lang=\"en-US\">\u0430\u0301<\/span>\u0442\u044c<\/i><\/span><span lang=\"ru-RU\">) <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">even the most mundane adult. Therefore you must bribe it with food.
