I, however, have learned to navigate this world without overly relying on <strong>\u0441\u043e\u044e\u0301\u0437\u044b<\/strong> (conjunctions). Would you like to know how? The answer is: <strong>\u0431\u0435\u0441\u0441\u043e\u044e\u0301\u0437\u043d\u044b\u0435\u00a0\u0441\u043b\u043e\u0301\u0436\u043d\u044b\u0435 \u043f\u0440\u0435\u0434\u043b\u043e\u0436\u0435\u0301\u043d\u0438\u044f<\/strong> (sentences without conjunctions).<\/p>\n<h4>To use or not to use<\/h4>\n<p>While conjunctions do serve many useful purposes, like connecting, contrasting, and elaborating on objects and actions between the clauses of a sentence, there are even smaller grammatical units that can effectively convey the same meaning: <strong>\u0437\u043d\u0430\u0301\u043a\u0438 \u043f\u0440\u0435\u043f\u0438\u043d\u0430\u0301\u043d\u0438\u044f <\/strong>(punctuation signs). I guess, you could say this post is partially about the ways we use <strong>\u0437\u0430\u043f\u044f\u0442\u044b\u0301\u0435 <\/strong>(commas), <strong>\u0434\u0432\u043e\u0435\u0442\u043e\u0301\u0447\u0438\u044f<\/strong> (colons), and <strong>\u0442\u0438\u0440\u0435\u0301<\/strong>\u00a0(dashes) in Russian. The real hero, I would argue, is your intonation (<strong>\u0438\u043d\u0442\u043e\u043d\u0430\u0301\u0446\u0438\u044f<\/strong>). Read the following sentences and pay attention to how your intonation changes:<\/p>\n<p><em>\u041e\u043f\u0440\u0435\u0434\u0435\u043b\u0438\u0301\u0448\u044c\u0441\u044f \u2014 \u043f\u043e\u0437\u0432\u043e\u043d\u0438\u0301. (<\/em><em>Call me when you make up your mind.<\/em><em>)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u042f \u043f\u0440\u0438\u043d\u044f\u043b\u0430\u0301 \u0440\u0435\u0448\u0435\u0301\u043d\u0438\u0435: \u0437\u0430\u0431\u044b\u0442\u044c \u043e\u0431 \u044d\u0442\u043e\u043c \u0441\u0442\u0440\u0430\u0301\u043d\u043d\u043e\u043c \u0434\u043d\u0435 \u043d\u0430\u0432\u0441\u0435\u0433\u0434\u0430\u0301. If you scrape out of the flour box and sweep out the bin, you\u2019ll get some flour!<\/em><em>)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>See how you pause for the dash, the colon and the commas?
