Yes, you read the title right. This blog is only partially about Russia’s favorite grain \u0433\u0440\u0435\u0447\u043a\u0430<\/strong> (buckwheat). We are going to talk about a wonderful Russian music artist on the rise that goes under the name \u0413\u0440\u0435\u0447\u043a\u0430<\/strong> (Grechka). It was actually Ryan\u2019s delightful blog on Russian breakfast<\/a> that originally made me hungry for some buckwheat porridge (\u0433\u0440\u0435\u0447\u043d\u0435\u0432\u0430\u044f \u043a\u0430\u0448\u0430 \u0438\u043b\u0438 \u0433\u0440\u0435\u0447\u043a\u0430). After reading it, I decided to google new recipes and that\u2019s when I saw that one of the first suggestions after I typed \u0433\u0440\u0435\u0447\u043a\u0430 was \u00ab\u0413\u0440\u0435\u0447\u043a\u0430<\/strong> \u043f\u0435\u0432\u0438\u0446\u0430\u00bb<\/strong> (Grechka singer). That was quite intriguing since all the other search options were food related (buckwheat in an instapot, buckwheat with mushrooms, buckwheat how to cook, buckwheat in English):<\/p>\n

And by the way, Ryan is absolutely right \u2013 Russian kindergartens almost always give \u043a\u0430\u0448\u0443 \u043d\u0430 \u0437\u0430\u0432\u0442\u0440\u0430\u043a<\/strong>. I ate my fair share of \u043c\u0430\u043d\u043d\u0430\u044f \u043a\u0430\u0448\u0430<\/strong> but now prefer \u0433\u0440\u0435\u0447\u043a\u0443 because it is much healthier. The transition from one porridge to the other is similar to how some of my peers in the US eventually switched out the colorful sugary cereal for oat bran.<\/p>\n

People usually make \u0433\u0440\u0435\u0447\u043a\u0430<\/strong> with just a bit of salt and add a hearty spoonful of butter once it is cooked. But unlike semolina porridge you can substitute butter with healthy oils of your choice. There have been numerous blogs about this wonderful grain: from how demand for grechka rose by 66% in March of 2020 during the panic of lockdown purchases<\/a> or a whole blog \u043a\u043e\u0442\u043e\u0440\u044b\u0439 \u043f\u043e\u0451\u0442 \u0434\u0438\u0444\u0438\u0440\u0430\u043c\u0431\u044b \u0433\u0440\u0435\u0447\u043a\u0435<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Back to the music artist<\/strong><\/h4>\n

\u0413\u0440\u0435\u0447\u043a\u0430 (real name \u0410\u043d\u0430\u0441\u0442\u0430\u0441\u0438\u044f \u0414\u043c\u0438\u0442\u0440\u0438\u0435\u0432\u043d\u0430 \u0418\u0432\u0430\u043d\u043e\u0432\u0430<\/a>) turned 21 on March 1st<\/sup> this year.<\/p>\n

Once I listened to her tracks I recognized her one song \u041b\u044e\u0431\u0438 \u043c\u0435\u043d\u044f, \u043b\u044e\u0431\u0438<\/strong><\/a> that brought her the most popularity and which she performed \u043d\u0430 \u0448\u043e\u0443 \u0412\u0435\u0447\u0435\u0440\u043d\u0438\u0439 \u0423\u0440\u0433\u0430\u043d\u0442<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\t\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n\n

\u0413\u0440\u0435\u0447\u043a\u0430<\/strong> took the chorus from a summer hit \u041b\u044e\u0431\u0438 \u043c\u0435\u043d\u044f, \u043b\u044e\u0431\u0438<\/strong><\/a> by the band \u041e\u0442\u043f\u0435\u0442\u044b\u0435<\/strong> \u041c\u043e\u0448\u0435\u043d\u043d\u0438\u043a\u0438<\/strong>, a pop music boy band that was huge in late the 90s and early 2000s. Their song \u041b\u044e\u0431\u0438 \u043c\u0435\u043d\u044f, \u043b\u044e\u0431\u0438<\/strong> has very different lyrics than Grechka\u2019s, you can see it here<\/a>. I certainly grew up watching their music videos for “\u041e\u0431\u0440\u0430\u0442\u0438\u0442\u0435 \u0412\u043d\u0438\u043c\u0430\u043d\u0438\u0435<\/strong><\/a>“, \u201c\u0413\u0440\u0430\u043d\u0438\u0446\u0430<\/strong><\/a>\u201d (with \u041b\u0435\u043e\u043d\u0438\u0434\u043e\u043c \u0410\u0433\u0443\u0442\u0438\u043d\u044b\u043c<\/strong>), and, of course, their hit with A\u2019Studio \u201c\u0421\u0435\u0440\u0434\u0446\u0435\u043c \u043a \u0441\u0435\u0440\u0434\u0446\u0443<\/strong><\/a>\u201d.<\/p>\n

While I haven\u2019t explored all of Grechka\u2019s albums yet, her music definitely makes me feel like I am back in high school and making a pop-rock \/ grunge punk playlist on my old Motorola. Some of my favorites so far are \u201c\u043c\u0435\u043d\u044f \u043d\u0435\u0442<\/a>\u201d \u0438 \u201c\u0417\u0434\u0435\u0441\u044c \u0431\u044b\u043b\u0438<\/a>\u201d.<\/p>\n

You can explore both \u0413\u0440\u0435\u0447\u043a\u0430<\/strong> and \u041e\u0442\u043f\u0435\u0442\u044b\u0435 \u041c\u043e\u0448\u0435\u043d\u043d\u0438\u043a\u0438<\/strong> on YouTube, I also saw that they are available on Spotify or Yandex music. The latter is one of the most popular music streaming platforms in Russia and post-Soviet countries.<\/p>\n
