And with today\u2019s holiday in Russia I feel like it\u2019s especially apt to listen to not only Utyosov\u2019s majestic voice, but to the song\u2019s lyrics.<\/p>\n<p>For those new to the Russian public holidays, \u0441\u0435\u0433\u043e\u0434\u043d\u044f <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/russian\/defender-of-the-fatherland-day\/\">\u0414\u0435\u043d\u044c \u0417\u0430\u0449\u0438\u0442\u043d\u0438\u043a\u0430 \u041e\u0442\u0435\u0447\u0435\u0441\u0442\u0432\u0430 or Defender of the Fatherland Day.<\/a> And, as Maria has mentioned in her blog about <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/russian\/overview-of-public-holidays-in-russia\/\">public holidays<\/a> in Russia, February 23<sup>rd<\/sup> and March 8<sup>th<\/sup> are considered reciprocal holidays: one for men and one for women. (For different views on March 8<sup>th<\/sup> read <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/russian\/march-8-in-russia-appreciation-of-women-or-sexist-holiday\/\">here<\/a>.) However, more and more people are writing about the potentially harmful nature of holidays that perpetuate certain gender stereotypes. Therefore, men must \u201cprotect, fight back, attack\u201d, you name it. Use violence but not show emotions. All of these are very harmful lies. For all those emotional parts, the lyrics focused on the Russian word \u201c<strong>\u043f\u043b\u0430\u043a\u0430\u0442\u044c<\/strong>\u201d, meaning, \u201cto cry\u201d. <strong>\u0421\u0434\u0435\u0440\u0436\u0430\u0442\u044c \u0441\u043b\u0435\u0437\u044b<\/strong>, even though in negation, sounds a lot more manly because we associate the word \u201c<strong>\u0441\u0434\u0435\u0440\u0436\u0430\u0442\u044c<\/strong>\u201d with \u201c<strong>c\u0434\u0435\u0440\u0436\u0430\u0442\u044c \u0441\u043b\u043e\u0432\u043e<\/strong>\u201d or keep one\u2019s promise. On its own, \u201c<strong>\u0434\u0435\u0440\u0436\u0430\u0442\u044c<\/strong>\u201d is a very versatile Russian verb that changes even more once <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/russian\/russian-verbs-%d0%b4%d0%b5%d1%80%d0%b6%d0%b0%d1%82%d1%8c\/\">prefixes<\/a> come into place.
