I justify it as education, not as entertainment. Seriously, cartoons can provide fantastic insights into the real everyday speech. The golden nuggets of linguistic wisdom &#8211; phrases, idioms, words &#8211; that can be found in many cartoons usually appear in <strong>\u00ab<\/strong><strong>\u043f\u043e\u0432\u0441\u0435\u0434\u043d<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0435<\/span>\u0432\u043d\u0430\u044f <\/strong><strong>\u0440\u0435\u0447\u044c\u00bb<\/strong> [everyday speech], but might not always make it into formal language courses. Besides, what\u2019s more fun &#8211; <strong>\u00ab<\/strong><strong>\u0447\u0438\u0442<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0430<\/span>\u0442\u044c <\/strong><strong>\u0443\u0447<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0435<\/span>\u0431\u043d\u0438\u043a\u00bb<\/strong> [to read a textbook] or <strong>\u00ab<\/strong><strong>\u0441\u043c\u043e\u0442\u0440<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0435<\/span>\u0442\u044c <\/strong><strong>\u043c<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0443<\/span>\u043b\u044c\u0442\u0438\u043a\u00bb<\/strong> [to watch a \u2018toon]? \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s why I felt that my most favorite cartoon of the moment <strong>\u00ab<\/strong><strong>\u041a\u0440\u0435\u043c-<\/strong><strong>\u0431\u0440\u044e\u043b<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0435<\/span>\u00bb<\/strong> [Cr\u00e8me br\u00fbl\u00e9e] is a perfect example of such \u201cedutainment\u201d:<\/p>\n<p>The story is simple &#8211; <strong>\u00ab<\/strong><strong>\u0414\u0438\u043a\u043e\u0431\u0440<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0430<\/span>\u0437\u00bb<\/strong> [Porcupine] is on his way to <strong>\u00ab<\/strong><strong>\u0422\u0443\u0448\u043a<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0430<\/span>\u043d\u0447\u0438\u043a\u00bb<\/strong> [Gerbil] for <strong>\u00ab<\/strong><strong>\u043d\u043e\u0432\u043e\u0441<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0435<\/span>\u043b\u044c\u0435\u00bb<\/strong> [a house-warming party] when he comes across <strong>\u00ab<\/strong><strong>\u0427\u0435\u0440\u0435\u043f<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0430<\/span>\u0445\u0430\u00bb<\/strong> [Turtle]. Turtle decides to come along, lured by the promise of <strong>\u00ab<\/strong><strong>\u043c\u043e\u0440<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u043e<\/span>\u0436\u0435\u043d\u043e\u0435 <\/strong><strong>\u043a\u0440\u0435\u043c-<\/strong><strong>\u0431\u0440\u044e\u043b<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0435<\/span>\u00bb<\/strong> [cr\u00e8me br\u00fbl\u00e9e ice-cream]. She also brings up a question of what <strong>\u00ab<\/strong><strong>\u043f\u043e\u0434<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0430<\/span>\u0440\u043e\u043a\u00bb<\/strong> [gift] to give to Gerbil. Since Porcupine hasn\u2019t thought of a gift, the friends decide to give Turtle herself as an impromptu gift.<\/p>\n<p>Why would Gerbil need Turtle as a gift? <strong>\u00ab<\/strong><strong>\u041d\u0430 <\/strong><strong>\u043f<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0430<\/span>\u043c\u044f\u0442\u044c, <\/strong><strong>\u043a\u0430\u043a <\/strong><strong>\u0441\u0443\u0432\u0435\u043d<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0438<\/span>\u0440\u00bb<\/strong> [As a memento, a souvenir], of course! Which in turn implies that the gift is <strong>\u00ab<\/strong><strong>\u0431\u0435\u0441\u043f\u043e\u043b<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0435<\/span>\u0437\u043d\u044b\u0439 <\/strong><strong>\u0432 <\/strong><strong>\u0445\u043e\u0437<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u044f<\/span>\u0439\u0441\u0442\u0432\u0435\u00bb<\/strong> [useless around the house]. Fortunately, Gerbil doesn\u2019t see it the same way and seems <strong>\u00ab<\/strong><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0438<\/span><\/strong><strong>\u0441\u043a\u0440\u0435\u043d\u043d\u0435 <\/strong><strong>\u0440\u0430\u0434\u00bb<\/strong> [genuinely happy] to receive such a great gift. In turn, Porcupine brainstorms ideas for using Turtle &#8211; <strong>\u00ab<\/strong><strong>\u043a\u0430\u043a <\/strong><strong>\u0437<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0435<\/span>\u0440\u043a\u0430\u043b\u043e\u00bb <\/strong>[as a mirror], <strong>\u00ab<\/strong><strong>\u043a\u0430\u043a <\/strong><strong>\u0434\u0438\u0432<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0430<\/span>\u043d\u00bb<\/strong> [as a couch], <strong>\u00ab<\/strong><strong>\u0447\u0442<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u043e<\/span>\u0431\u044b <\/strong><strong>\u043e\u0440<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0435<\/span>\u0445\u0438 <\/strong><strong>\u043a\u043e\u043b<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u043e<\/span>\u0442\u044c\u00bb<\/strong> [to crack nuts]\u2026 Suddenly, realizing how useful a turtle can be around a house, Porcupine changes his mind about his gift and wants to take Turtle back &#8211; <strong>\u00ab<\/strong><strong>\u043f\u043e\u0434\u0430\u0440<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0438<\/span>\u0442\u044c <\/strong><strong>\u043d\u0435 <\/strong><strong>\u043c\u043e\u0433<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0443<\/span>&#8230; <\/strong><strong>\u0441\u0430\u043c\u043e\u043c<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0443<\/span> <\/strong><strong>\u043d<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0430<\/span>\u0434\u043e\u00bb<\/strong> [can\u2019t gift it\u2026 I need it myself].
