We got a new look, new authors, and lots and lots of new readers. And that\u2019s the most important part for us &#8211; our readers. Thank you for sticking around, reading through our lengthy posts, and letting us know your thoughts, both in the comments on the blog and on our <a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/learn.russian\">fanpage<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>We wrote about a lot of things last year &#8211; grammar, current events, literature, weird Russian sayings, delicious food, Russian holidays\u2026 <strong>\u00ab\u0421<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0430<\/span>\u043c\u044b\u0435 \u043f\u043e\u043f\u0443\u043b<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u044f<\/span>\u0440\u043d\u044b\u0435\u00bb<\/strong> [the most popular] posts of the year included<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>The post titled somewhat provocatively <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/russian\/russian-literature-is-better-than-sex%e2%80%a6\/\">Russian Literature is Better Than Sex\u2026<\/a> was destined to become the most read post of the year on our blog. Otherwise, how to explain the popularity of the post about a <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/russian\/soviet-classics-hedgehog-in-fog\/\">Soviet animation<\/a> classic short, \u201cThe Hedgehog in the Fog\u201d.<\/li>\n<li>Make learning <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/russian\/russian-days-of-the-week\/\">Russian days of the week<\/a> fun by reading about other words and phrases related to them. Personally I think what really made this post so popular was a tip on how to win big in a lottery (it\u2019s under<strong> \u00ab<\/strong><strong>\u043f<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u044f<\/span>\u0442\u043d\u0438\u0446\u0430\u00bb <\/strong>[Friday]).<\/li>\n<li>When our elders tell us that our generation has it too easy, don\u2019t roll your eyes. We really do, at least when it comes to <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/russian\/are-there-too-many-letters-in-russian-alphabet\/\">Russian letters<\/a>. On the other hand, some of the nixed letters were truly funky looking, something that would\u2019ve come in handy to entertain friends by writing their names in Russian. <strong><em>[David, congrats on this awesome post making the top ten!]<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Do Russians <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/russian\/halloween-in-russia\/\">celebrate Halloween<\/a>? And if there\u2019s trick-or-treating going on, do kids get all those super-sweet Russian chocolates in fancy wrappers? Do guys dress up like <strong>\u00ab<\/strong><strong>\u043a\u0440\u043e\u043a\u043e\u0434<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0438<\/span>\u043b <\/strong><strong>\u0413<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0435<\/span>\u043d\u0430\u00bb<\/strong> [Genna, the cartoon crocodile] and girls &#8211; as <strong>\u00ab<\/strong><strong>\u0426\u0430\u0440<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0435<\/span>\u0432\u043d\u0430-<\/strong><strong>\u043b\u044f\u0433<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0443<\/span>\u0448\u043a\u0430\u00bb<\/strong>? [the frog princess]? Do they carve Putin-look-alike pumpkins? These are not the questions addressed in this post. Well, except for the first one.<\/li>\n<li>Sometimes one has to travel to Russia without much notice (say, you snagged an awesome deal on plane tickets). You only have about a month to get ready; two weeks if you splurged for an expedited visa. That\u2019s when you need to perform linguistic triage and learn only the <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/russian\/top-ten-russian-phrases\/\">top Russian phrases<\/a> on which to get by and even thrive (oh, and the numbers to pay for museum admissions and the alphabet to read street signs). This was a very popular post as well so either you all know how to get super-sweet travel deals (please-please share), hosting an exchange student from Russia, or are trying to impress your boyfriend\/girlfriend.<\/li>\n<li>Of course, once you get a taste of Russia and its language, it\u2019s hard to stop. Even <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/russian\/russian-grammar-in-russian\/\">Russian grammar<\/a> doesn\u2019t seem all that scary or boring at the promise of reading <strong>\u00ab<\/strong><strong>\u0412\u043e\u0439\u043d<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0430<\/span> <\/strong><strong>\u0438 <\/strong><strong>\u043c\u0438\u0440\u00bb<\/strong> [War and Peace] in Russian (see #1 on the list). Who knew Russian <strong>\u00ab<\/strong><strong>\u0447<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0430<\/span>\u0441\u0442\u0438 <\/strong><strong>\u0440<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0435<\/span>\u0447\u0438\u00bb<\/strong> [parts of speech] can be this much fun to learn?!<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>But maybe you liked some other\u00a0post(s)?
