By the way, it will also work for <strong>\u00ab<\/strong><strong>\u043d\u0430\u0440<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0435<\/span>\u0447\u0438\u044f\u00bb<\/strong> [adverbs].<\/p>\n<p>One <strong>\u00ab<\/strong><strong>\u0441\u043f<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u043e<\/span>\u0441\u043e\u0431\u00bb<\/strong> [method] is to use suffixes and, in some cases, prefixes to come up with comparative and superlative adjectives. These suffixes include <strong>\u00ab-<\/strong><strong>\u0435\u0435- (-<\/strong><strong>\u0435\u0439-)-\u00bb, \u00ab-<\/strong><strong>\u0435-\u00bb, \u00ab-<\/strong><strong>\u0448\u0435-\u00bb<\/strong> for comparative adjectives and <strong>\u00ab-<\/strong><strong>\u0435\u0439\u0448- (-<\/strong><strong>\u0430\u0439\u0448-)\u00bb<\/strong> for superlative ones:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Positive &#8211; <strong>\u00ab<\/strong><strong>\u043b<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0443<\/span>\u0447\u0448\u0435\u00bb<\/strong> [better; adverb] &#8211; <strong>\u00ab<\/strong><strong>\u043b<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0443<\/span>\u0447\u0448\u0438\u0439\u00bb<\/strong> [the best]<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00ab<\/strong><strong>\u041f\u043b\u043e\u0445<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u043e<\/span>\u0439\u00bb<\/strong> [bad] &#8211; <strong>\u00ab<\/strong><strong>\u0445<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0443<\/span>\u0436\u0435\u00bb<\/strong> [worse; adverb] &#8211; <strong>\u00ab<\/strong><strong>\u0445<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0443<\/span>\u0434\u0448\u0438\u0439\u00bb<\/strong> [the worst]<\/p>\n<p>Plus there are quite a few adjectives that simply refuse to be augmented this way (if you get bored with this list, skip it to find a simple solution):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Adjectives with the suffix <strong>\u00ab-<\/strong><strong>\u0441\u043a-\u00bb<\/strong> or <strong>\u00ab-<\/strong><strong>\u0437\u043a-\u00bb<\/strong> \u00a0&#8211; <strong>\u00ab<\/strong><strong>\u0434\u0440<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0443<\/span>\u0436\u0435\u0441\u043a\u0438\u0439\u00bb<\/strong> [friendly], <strong>\u00ab<\/strong><strong>\u0432\u0440<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0430<\/span>\u0436\u0435\u0441\u043a\u0438\u0439\u00bb<\/strong> [hostile], <strong>\u00ab<\/strong><strong>\u0441\u043a<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u043e<\/span>\u043b\u044c\u0437\u043a\u0438\u0439\u00bb<\/strong> [slippery];<\/li>\n<li>Some adjectives with the suffix <strong>\u00ab-<\/strong><strong>\u043d-\u00bb<\/strong> &#8211; <strong>\u00ab<\/strong><strong>\u0440\u0443\u0447\u043d<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u043e<\/span>\u0439\u00bb<\/strong> [handmade, also domesticated], <strong>\u00ab<\/strong><strong>\u043b<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0438<\/span>\u0448\u043d\u0438\u0439\u00bb<\/strong> [excessive], <strong>\u00ab<\/strong><strong>\u0431\u043e\u043b\u044c\u043d<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u043e<\/span>\u0439\u00bb<\/strong> [ill];<\/li>\n<li>Adjectives with the suffix <strong>\u00ab-<\/strong><strong>\u043e\u0432-\u00bb<\/strong> or <strong>\u00ab-<\/strong><strong>\u0435\u0432-\u00bb<\/strong> &#8211; <strong>\u00ab<\/strong><strong>\u0434\u0435\u043b\u043e\u0432<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u043e<\/span>\u0439\u00bb<\/strong> [business-like], <strong>\u00ab<\/strong><strong>\u0440\u044f\u0434\u043e\u0432<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u043e<\/span>\u0439\u00bb<\/strong> [regular], <strong>\u00ab<\/strong><strong>\u043c<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0430<\/span>\u0441\u0441\u043e\u0432\u044b\u0439\u00bb<\/strong> [large scale];<\/li>\n<li>Many verbal adjectives with the suffix <strong>\u00ab-<\/strong><strong>\u043b-\u00bb<\/strong>, such as <strong>\u00ab<\/strong><strong>\u0433\u043d\u0438\u043b<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u043e<\/span>\u0439\u00bb<\/strong> [rotten], <strong>\u00ab<\/strong><strong>\u0443\u0441\u0442<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0430<\/span>\u043b\u044b\u0439\u00bb<\/strong> [tired], <strong>\u00ab<\/strong><strong>\u0445\u0440<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0438<\/span>\u043f\u043b\u044b\u0439\u00bb<\/strong> [hoarse];<\/li>\n<li>And a few other strays, including <strong>\u00ab<\/strong><strong>\u0433<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u043e<\/span>\u0440\u0434\u044b\u0439\u00bb<\/strong> [proud] and <strong>\u00ab<\/strong><strong>\u0440<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u043e<\/span>\u0431\u043a\u0438\u0439\u00bb<\/strong> [timid].<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>With so many exceptions, it might be <strong>\u00ab<\/strong><strong>\u043f\u0440<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u043e<\/span>\u0449\u0435\u00bb<\/strong> [easier] to find another way. Fortunately, there is just such an option that allows you to skip my list of exceptions. (You can use this saved time to finally finish your list of New Year resolutions.)<\/p>\n<p>This other method is called analytical method and consists of getting a bit <strong>\u00ab<\/strong><strong>\u0431<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u043e<\/span>\u043b\u0435\u0435 <\/strong><strong>\u043c\u043d\u043e\u0433\u043e\u0441\u043b<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u043e<\/span>\u0432\u043d\u044b\u0439\u00bb<\/strong> [more verbose]. See, I just did it &#8211; <strong>\u00ab<\/strong><strong>\u0431<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u043e<\/span>\u043b\u0435\u0435\u00bb<\/strong> [more] is the extra word you\u2019d add to the adjective\u2019s positive form to form the comparative degree.
