By the time everyone guessed right – to which I must say \u00ab\u043c\u043e\u043b\u043e\u0434\u0446\u044b!\u00bb<\/strong> – my Korean roommate counted just how many new words she’s been learning a week, and fixed it in the following manner: \u00ab160 (<\/strong><\/em>\u0441\u0442\u043e<\/em><\/strong> <\/em><\/strong>\u0448\u0435\u0441\u0442\u0434\u0435\u0441\u044f<\/span>\u0442\u044c<\/em><\/strong>) <\/em><\/strong>\u043d\u043e\u0432\u044b\u0445<\/em><\/strong> <\/em><\/strong>\u0441\u043b\u043e\u0432<\/em><\/strong> <\/em><\/strong>\u0437\u0430<\/em><\/strong> <\/em><\/strong>\u043d\u0435\u0434\u0435<\/span>\u043b\u044e<\/em><\/strong>!\u00bb<\/em><\/strong> [160 new words a week!]. Now is there anyone out there prepared to be even more ambitious?<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n

Tomorrow is the 4th<\/sup> of November<\/a>, a day which was known as \u00ab<\/strong>\u0414\u0435\u043d\u044c<\/strong> <\/strong>\u0441\u043e\u0433\u043b\u0430<\/span>\u0441\u0438\u044f<\/strong> <\/strong>\u0438<\/strong> <\/strong>\u043f\u0440\u0438\u043c\u0438\u0440\u0435<\/span>\u043d\u0438\u044f<\/strong><\/a>\u00bb<\/a> <\/strong>[The Day of Agreement and Reconciliation<\/em>] the first time that I was blessed with an opportunity to celebrate it in Russia (in Saint Petersburg back in 2004). It became my favorite Russian holiday, and because of this often I joke in the following way: \u00ab<\/strong>\u0412<\/strong> <\/strong>\u0442\u043e\u043c<\/strong> <\/strong>\u0433\u043e\u0434\u0443<\/span><\/strong> <\/strong>\u044f<\/strong> <\/strong>\u0442\u0430\u043a<\/strong> <\/strong>\u043f\u0440\u0438\u043c\u0438\u0440\u0438<\/span>\u043b\u0430\u0441\u044c<\/strong>, <\/strong>\u0447\u0442\u043e<\/strong> <\/strong>\u0433\u043e\u043b\u043e\u0432\u0430<\/span><\/strong> <\/strong>\u043f\u043e\u0442\u043e<\/span>\u043c<\/strong> <\/strong>\u0442\u0440\u0438<\/strong> <\/strong>\u0434\u043d\u044f<\/strong> <\/strong>\u0431\u043e\u043b\u0435<\/span>\u043b\u0430<\/strong>!\u00bb<\/strong> [That year I reconciled so much that my head hurt for three days afterwards!] Russians find this comment very funny. I do too, and though I did \u2018reconcile’<\/em> back then primarily in combination with alchol, the back lash of too much \u2018agreement’<\/em> only lasted half a day… Since then a lot of water has passed under many bridges, and the day is now called \u00ab<\/strong>\u0414\u0435\u043d\u044c<\/strong> <\/strong>\u043d\u0430\u0440\u043e<\/span>\u0434\u043d\u043e\u0433\u043e<\/strong> <\/strong>\u0435\u0434\u0438<\/span>\u043d\u0441\u0442\u0432\u0430<\/strong>\u00bb<\/strong><\/a> [The Day of (People)<\/em> Unity<\/a>].
