The easy way is to use the verb <strong>\u00ab<\/strong><strong>\u0441\u0442\u0440\u0435\u0441\u0441\u043e\u0432<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0430<\/span>\u0442\u044c\u00bb<\/strong> [to stress] and disregard ensuing criticism. The verb is definitely out there, but not widely used. And when it is used, it\u2019s mostly in informal conversations.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, there\u2019s simply no way to both speak proper Russian and form a verb from the noun <strong>\u00ab<\/strong><strong>\u0441\u0442\u0440\u0435\u0441\u0441\u00bb.<\/strong> Instead, you\u2019d have to do it in a round-about way and use the noun:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>\u00ab\u0423 \u043c\u0435\u043d<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u044f<\/span> \u0441\u0442\u0440\u0435\u0441\u0441.\u00bb<\/strong> [I\u2019m stressed.]<\/li>\n<li><strong>\u00ab\u041d\u0435 \u043f\u0440\u0438\u0431\u0430\u0432\u043b<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u044f<\/span>\u0439 \u043c\u043d\u0435 \u0441\u0442\u0440<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0435<\/span>\u0441\u0441\u0430.\u00bb<\/strong> [Don\u2019t stress me out.]<\/li>\n<li><strong>\u00ab\u0423 \u043d\u0435\u0433<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u043e<\/span> \u0441\u0442\u0440\u0435\u0441\u0441 \u043f\u043e \u043f\u0443\u0441\u0442\u044f\u043a<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0430<\/span>\u043c.\u00bb<\/strong> [He is stressed out over nothing.]<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Fortunately, there\u2019s a great solution to this stressful situation (of trying to re-phrase the entire sentences). You see, before <strong>\u00ab<\/strong><strong>\u0441\u0442\u0440\u0435\u0441\u0441\u00bb<\/strong> entered our lives, we used to simply <strong>\u00ab<\/strong><strong>\u043d<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0435<\/span>\u0440\u0432\u043d\u0438\u0447\u0430\u0442\u044c\u00bb<\/strong> [be stressed]. Let\u2019s use this word instead of <strong>\u00ab<\/strong><strong>\u0441\u0442\u0440\u0435\u0441\u0441\u00bb<\/strong> in the above examples:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>\u00ab<\/strong><strong>\u042f <\/strong><strong>\u043d<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0435<\/span>\u0440\u0432\u043d\u0438\u0447\u0430\u044e.\u00bb<\/strong> [I\u2019m stressed.]<\/li>\n<li><strong>\u00ab\u041d\u0435 \u0437\u0430\u0441\u0442\u0430\u0432\u043b<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u044f<\/span>\u0439 \u043c\u0435\u043d<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u044f<\/span> \u043d<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0435<\/span>\u0440\u0432\u043d\u0438\u0447\u0430\u0442\u044c.\u00bb<\/strong> [Don\u2019t stress me out.]<\/li>\n<li><strong>\u00ab<\/strong><strong>\u041e\u043d <\/strong><strong>\u043d<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0435<\/span>\u0440\u0432\u043d\u0438\u0447\u0430\u0435\u0442 <\/strong><strong>\u043f\u043e <\/strong><strong>\u043f\u0443\u0441\u0442\u044f\u043a\u0430\u043c.\u00bb<\/strong> [He\u2019s stressed out over nothing.]<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Notice that to stress someone is <strong>\u00ab<\/strong><strong>\u0437\u0430\u0441\u0442\u0430\u0432\u043b<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u044f<\/span>\u0442\u044c <\/strong><strong>\u043d<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0435<\/span>\u0440\u0432\u043d\u0438\u0447\u0430\u0442\u044c\u00bb<\/strong> while to be stressed is simply <strong>\u00ab<\/strong><strong>\u043d<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0435<\/span>\u0440\u0432\u043d\u0438\u0447\u0430\u0442\u044c\u00bb.<\/strong> The root of both words is <strong>\u00ab<\/strong><strong>\u043d\u0435\u0440\u0432\u00bb<\/strong> [nerve] which totally makes sense. After all, someone or something who <strong>\u00ab<\/strong><strong>\u0434<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0435<\/span>\u0439\u0441\u0442\u0432\u043e\u0432\u0430\u0442\u044c <\/strong><strong>\u043d\u0430 <\/strong><strong>\u043d<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0435<\/span>\u0440\u0432\u044b\u00bb<\/strong> [gets on one\u2019s nerves] is a major stressor.<\/p>\n<p>A more informal way of saying that something stresses you out is to say <strong>\u00ab<\/strong><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u044d<\/span><\/strong><strong>\u0442\u043e <\/strong><strong>\u043c\u0435\u043d<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u044f<\/span> <\/strong><strong>\u043d\u0430\u043f\u0440\u044f\u0433<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0430<\/span>\u0435\u0442\u00bb<\/strong> [it is a hassle]. For example, people who suffer from <strong>\u00ab<\/strong><strong>\u0441\u0438\u043d\u0434\u0440<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u043e<\/span>\u043c <\/strong><strong>\u043f\u043e\u043d\u0435\u0434<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0435<\/span>\u043b\u044c\u043d\u0438\u043a\u0430\u00bb<\/strong> [Monday morning syndrome] say that <strong>\u00ab<\/strong><strong>\u043f\u043e\u043d\u0435\u0434<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0435<\/span>\u043b\u044c\u043d\u0438\u043a <\/strong><strong>\u0438\u0445 <\/strong><strong>\u043d\u0430\u043f\u0440\u044f\u0433<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0430<\/span>\u0435\u0442\u00bb<\/strong> [Monday is a hassle for them].<\/p>\n<p>A situation that is stressful is <strong>\u00ab<\/strong><strong>\u043d\u0430\u043f\u0440\u044f\u0436<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0451<\/span>\u043d\u043d\u0430\u044f <\/strong><strong>\u043e\u0431\u0441\u0442\u0430\u043d<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u043e<\/span>\u0432\u043a\u0430\u00bb<\/strong> [tense atmosphere]. The opposite of such a situation is <strong>\u00ab<\/strong><strong>\u0434\u0440<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0443<\/span>\u0436\u0435\u0441\u043a\u0430\u044f <\/strong><strong>\u043e\u0431\u0441\u0442\u0430\u043d<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u043e<\/span>\u0432\u043a\u0430\u00bb<\/strong> [friendly atmosphere] or <strong>\u00ab<\/strong><strong>\u043d\u0435\u043f\u0440\u0438\u043d\u0443\u0436\u0434<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0451<\/span>\u043d\u043d\u0430\u044f <\/strong><strong>\u043e\u0431\u0441\u0442\u0430\u043d<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u043e<\/span>\u0432\u043a\u0430\u00bb<\/strong> [laidback atmosphere].<\/p>\n<p>The verb <strong>\u00ab<\/strong><strong>\u043f\u0440\u0438\u043d\u0443\u0436\u0434<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0430<\/span>\u0442\u044c\u00bb<\/strong> [to force] in its perfective aspect is <strong>\u00ab<\/strong><strong>\u043f\u0440\u0438\u043d<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0443<\/span>\u0434\u0438\u0442\u044c\u00bb.<\/strong> While <strong>\u00ab\u043d\u0443\u0436\u0434<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0430<\/span>\u00bb<\/strong> and <strong>\u00ab<\/strong><strong>\u043d<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0443<\/span>\u0434\u0430\u00bb<\/strong> used to both mean \u201cneed\u201d, <strong>\u00ab<\/strong><strong>\u043d<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0443<\/span>\u0434\u0430\u00bb<\/strong> eventually changed to mean a downer, a joy kill. Many Americans are familiar with this latter meaning through <em>\u201cnudnik\u201d.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Official definition of nudnik is someone who\u2019s a boring pest and\/or a persistent nag. And that\u2019s exactly what Russian word <strong>\u00ab<\/strong><strong>\u0437\u0430\u043d<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0443<\/span>\u0434\u0430\u00bb<\/strong> means. The verb is <strong>\u00ab<\/strong><strong>\u043d<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0443<\/span>\u0434\u0438\u0442\u044c\u00bb<\/strong> &#8211; to nag and the adjective is <strong>\u00ab<\/strong><strong>\u043d<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0443<\/span>\u0434\u043d\u044b\u0439\u00bb.<\/strong> This is not to be confused with <strong>\u00ab<\/strong><strong>\u043d<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0443<\/span>\u0436\u043d\u044b\u0439\u00bb<\/strong> [needed]. Needless to say, a conversation with \u0437\u0430\u043d\u0443\u0434\u0430 can be a very stressful one.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00ab\u0427\u0442\u043e \u0432\u0430\u0441 \u043d\u0430\u043f\u0440\u044f\u0433<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0430<\/span>\u0435\u0442?\u00bb<\/strong> <strong>\u00ab\u0427\u0442\u043e \u0434<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0435<\/span>\u0439\u0441\u0442\u0432\u0443\u0435\u0442 \u0432\u0430\u043c \u043d\u0430 \u043d<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0435<\/span>\u0440\u0432\u044b?\u00bb<\/strong> <strong>\u00ab<\/strong><strong>\u0427\u0442\u043e <\/strong><strong>\u0441\u043e\u0437\u0434\u0430<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0451<\/span>\u0442 <\/strong><strong>\u0432\u0430\u043c <\/strong><strong>\u0441\u0442\u0440\u0435\u0441\u0441?\u00bb<\/strong> In short, what stresses you out?
