This blog rarely covers news. After all, this is a Russian language learning blog, not a current events and politics one. Today, however, is different. As you know, at 4:32pm Moscow time on January 24th<\/sup>, \u00ab<\/strong>\u0432 <\/strong>\u0430\u044d\u0440\u043e\u043f\u043e\u0440\u0442\u0443<\/span> <\/strong>\u0414\u043e\u043c\u043e\u0434\u0435<\/span>\u0434\u043e\u0432\u043e <\/strong>\u043f\u0440\u043e\u0433\u0440\u0435\u043c\u0435<\/span>\u043b <\/strong>\u0432\u0437\u0440\u044b\u0432\u00bb<\/strong> [an explosion thundered through the Domodedovo airport].<\/p>\n

At the time of my writing this post, \u00ab<\/strong>\u043c\u0438\u043d\u0438\u0441\u0442\u0435<\/span>\u0440\u0441\u0442\u0432\u043e <\/strong>\u0420\u043e\u0441\u0441\u0438<\/span>\u0439\u0441\u043a\u043e\u0439 <\/strong>\u0424\u0435\u0434\u0435\u0440\u0430<\/span>\u0446\u0438\u0438 <\/strong>\u043f\u043e <\/strong>\u0447\u0440\u0435\u0437\u0432\u044b\u0447\u0430<\/span>\u0439\u043d\u044b\u043c <\/strong>\u0441\u0438\u0442\u0443\u0430<\/span>\u0446\u0438\u044f\u043c\u00bb<\/strong> [Ministry of the Russian Federation for Emergency Management] places the death toll at 35 people. Another 130 are injured, many \u00ab<\/strong>\u043d\u0430\u0445\u043e<\/span>\u0434\u044f\u0442\u0441\u044f <\/strong>\u0432 <\/strong>\u0442\u044f\u0436\u0451<\/span>\u043b\u043e\u043c <\/strong>\u0441\u043e\u0441\u0442\u043e\u044f<\/span>\u043d\u0438\u0438\u00bb<\/strong> [are in critical condition].<\/p>\n

The blast was called \u00ab<\/strong>\u0442\u0435\u0440\u0430<\/span>\u043a\u0442\u00bb<\/strong> [a terrorist attack] and the remains of a suspected \u00ab<\/strong>\u0442\u0435\u0440\u0440\u043e\u0440\u0438<\/span>\u0441\u0442\u00bb<\/strong> [terrorist] were found. This is a horrific event and, breaking with the usual cheerful way of our blog, the words for today are the words of grief and shock.<\/p>\n

In the following days there will be, no doubt, much \u00ab<\/strong>\u043f\u043e<\/span>\u0438\u0441\u043a <\/strong>\u0432\u0438\u043d\u043e\u0432\u0430<\/span>\u0442\u044b\u0445\u00bb<\/strong> [finger-pointing], \u00ab<\/strong>\u043f\u0435\u0440\u0435\u043a\u043b\u0430<\/span>\u0434\u044b\u0432\u0430\u043d\u0438\u0435 <\/strong>\u0432\u0438\u043d\u044b<\/span>\u00bb<\/strong> [laying blame], and \u00ab<\/strong>\u043f\u0435\u0440\u0435\u0431\u0440\u0430<\/span>\u043d\u043a\u0430\u00bb<\/strong> [squabbling]. There will be \u00ab<\/strong>\u0442\u0435\u043e<\/span>\u0440\u0438\u0438 <\/strong>\u0437\u0430<\/span>\u0433\u043e\u0432\u043e\u0440\u0430\u00bb<\/strong> [conspiracy theories], \u00ab<\/strong>\u0434\u043e<\/span>\u043c\u044b\u0441\u043b\u044b\u00bb<\/strong> [wild guesses], and \u00ab<\/strong>\u0441\u043a\u043e\u0440\u043e\u043f\u0430\u043b\u0438<\/span>\u0442\u0435\u043b\u044c\u043d\u044b\u0435 <\/strong>\u0432\u044b<\/span>\u0432\u043e\u0434\u044b\u00bb<\/strong> [snap judgments].<\/p>\n

But there will also be \u00ab<\/strong>\u0441\u043e\u0441\u0442\u0440\u0430\u0434\u0430<\/span>\u043d\u0438\u0435\u00bb<\/strong> [compassion] and \u00ab<\/strong>\u0441\u043e\u0447\u0443<\/span>\u0432\u0441\u0442\u0432\u0438\u0435\u00bb<\/strong> [empathy]. There will also be \u00ab<\/strong>\u043c\u043e\u043b\u0438<\/span>\u0442\u0432\u044b\u00bb<\/strong> [prayers] for the victims and their families.<\/p>\n

While there isn\u2019t much many of us can do to help the victims and their families, we can all try not to succumb to \u00ab<\/strong>\u0437\u043b\u043e<\/span>\u0431\u0430\u00bb<\/strong> [hatred] or, for that matter, stay \u00ab<\/strong>\u0431\u0435\u0437\u0440\u0430\u0437\u043b\u0438<\/span>\u0447\u043d\u044b\u0439\u00bb<\/strong> [indifferent].<\/p>\n
