This is <strong>\u00ab\u043f\u043e\u0441\u043b<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0435<\/span>\u0434\u043d\u0438\u0439 \u0444\u0438\u043b\u044c\u043c\u00bb<\/strong> [the final film] of the series. And as someone who has ready <strong>\u00ab\u043a<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0430<\/span>\u0436\u0434\u0430\u044f \u043a\u043d<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0438<\/span>\u0433\u0430\u00bb<\/strong> [every book] multiple times, I confess: I was very sad since there will be no more films. In this post, I will be writing about common Harry Potter-related terms, but in Russian. I will try not to have too many spoilers, in case some of you have not read the books.<\/p>\n<p>So, what would it be like to live in Harry Potter\u2019s world? First off, there are <strong>\u00ab\u0432\u043e\u043b\u0448<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0435<\/span>\u0431\u043d\u0438\u043a\u0438 \u0438 \u0432\u043e\u043b\u0448<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0435<\/span>\u0431\u043d\u0438\u0446\u044b\u00bb<\/strong> [wizards and witches], people who can do magic. Of course, they need <strong>\u00ab\u0432\u043e\u043b\u0448<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0435<\/span>\u0431\u043d\u0430\u044f \u043f<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0430<\/span>\u043b\u043e\u0447\u043a\u0430\u00bb<\/strong> [a magic wand] to work magic. <em>(Note that the word <strong>\u00ab\u043f<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0430<\/span>\u043b\u043a\u0430\u00bb<\/strong> means stick, so that may be an easy way to remember how to say wand.)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Non-magical people are called Muggles (this is such a great word that the translators of Harry Potter into Russian kept the word, so it is <strong>\u00ab\u043c\u0430\u0433\u043b\u00bb<\/strong> in Russian) and <strong>\u00ab\u0431\u043e\u043b\u044c\u0448\u0438\u043d\u0441\u0442\u0432<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u043e<\/span> \u0438\u0437 \u043d\u0438\u0445\u00bb<\/strong> [the majority of them] do not know that the wizarding world exists. <strong>\u00ab\u0418\u0441\u043a\u043b\u044e\u0447<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0435<\/span>\u043d\u0438\u044f\u00bb<\/strong> [Exceptions] would be <strong>\u00ab\u043f\u0440\u0435\u043c\u044c<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0435<\/span>\u0440-\u043c\u0438\u043d<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0438<\/span>\u0441\u0442\u0435\u0440 \u0421\u043e\u0435\u0434\u0438\u043d\u0451\u043d\u043d\u043e\u0433\u043e \u041a\u043e\u0440\u043e\u043b<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0435<\/span>\u0432\u0441\u0442\u0432\u0430\u00bb<\/strong> [the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom] and <strong>\u00ab\u0441<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0435<\/span>\u043c\u044c\u0438\u00bb<\/strong> [the families] of children with magical ability.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00ab\u041f\u043e\u0434\u0440<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0443<\/span>\u0433\u0430 \u0413<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0430<\/span>\u0440\u0440\u0438\u00bb<\/strong> [Harry\u2019s (female) friend <em>(note how Harry\u2019s name does not decline in Russian)<\/em>] is one such person born into a Muggle family. In fact, I recall that she once says that both of her parents are <strong>\u00ab\u0437<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0443<\/span>\u0431\u043d\u044b\u0435 \u0432\u0440\u0430\u0447<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0438<\/span>\u00bb<\/strong> [dentists]. In English, her name is Hermione Granger, but in Russian it becomes <strong>\u00ab\u0413\u0435\u0440\u043c\u0438<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u043e<\/span>\u043d\u0430 \u0413\u0440<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0435<\/span>\u0439\u043d\u0434\u0436\u0435\u0440\u00bb<\/strong>. She is one of my favorite characters: <strong>\u00ab\u043e\u043d<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0430<\/span> \u043e\u0442\u043b<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0438<\/span>\u0447\u043d\u0438\u0446\u0430\u00bb<\/strong> [she is a straight-A student] and is <strong>\u00ab<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u043e<\/span>\u0447\u0435\u043d\u044c <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0443<\/span>\u043c\u043d\u0430\u044f\u00bb<\/strong> [very intelligent].<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00ab\u0413<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0430<\/span>\u0440\u0440\u0438 \u0438 \u0420\u043e\u043d\u00bb<\/strong> [Harry and Ron] do not do as well in school as <strong>\u00ab\u0413\u0435\u0440\u043c\u0438<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u043e<\/span>\u043d\u0430\u00bb<\/strong> [Hermione] but they are also very likable characters. <strong>\u00ab\u0413<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0430<\/span>\u0440\u0440\u0438\u00bb<\/strong> [Harry] is <strong>\u00ab\u0441\u043c<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0435<\/span>\u043b\u044b\u0439\u00bb<\/strong> [brave] and <strong>\u00ab\u0420\u043e\u043d\u00bb<\/strong> is <strong>\u00ab\u0432<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0435<\/span>\u0440\u043d\u044b\u0439\u00bb<\/strong> [loyal].<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00ab\u0421<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0435<\/span>\u0440\u0438\u044f\u00bb<\/strong> [The series] is about the adventures of these friends as they make their way through their seven years of magic school at <strong>\u00ab\u0425<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u043e<\/span>\u0433\u0432\u0430\u0440\u0442\u0441\u00bb<\/strong> [Hogwarts], a prestigious school of magic in England.<\/p>\n<p>Some may dismiss the Harry Potter series as simple <strong>\u00ab\u0444<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u044d<\/span>\u043d\u0442\u0435\u0437\u0438\u00bb<\/strong> [fantasy], but the series is more than that: it is about <strong>\u00ab\u0434\u0440<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0443<\/span>\u0436\u0431\u0430\u00bb<\/strong> [friendship] as well.<\/p>\n<p>I know some people who swear by reading novels as a method of learning languages. If you would like to try this, I would definitely recommend Harry Potter.
