Not to date myself, but the first <strong>\u0434\u0435\u043c\u043e\u043a\u0440\u0430\u0442<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0438<\/span>\u0447\u0435\u0441\u043a\u0438\u0435 <\/strong><strong>\u0432<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u044b<\/span>\u0431\u043e\u0440\u044b<\/strong> (democratic elections) I was old enough to vote in had among others, the leader of the Communist Party, <strong>\u0413\u0435\u043d\u043d<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0430<\/span>\u0434\u0438\u0439 <\/strong><strong>\u0417\u044e\u0433<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0430<\/span>\u043d\u043e\u0432<\/strong> (Gennadiy Zyuganov) \u00a0and the leader of the Liberal-Democratic Party, <strong>\u0412\u043b\u0430\u0434<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0438<\/span>\u043c\u0438\u0440 <\/strong><strong>\u0416\u0438\u0440\u0438\u043d<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u043e<\/span>\u0432\u0441\u043a\u0438\u0439<\/strong> (Vladimir Zhirinovsky) on the ballot. I remember it as if it was just yesterday\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Wait just a second! Yesterday was the Presidential elections in Russia. And both Zuganov and Zhirinovsky were on the ballot. Of course, you know that they took the distance second and forth places. While not all the ballots have been counted at the time I\u2019m writing this post, it looks like <strong>\u0412\u043b\u0430\u0434<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0438<\/span>\u043c\u0438\u0440 <\/strong><strong>\u041f<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0443<\/span>\u0442\u0438\u043d<\/strong> (Vladimir Putin) won handily (over 64% of the votes) and unsurprisingly.<\/p>\n<p>On the night of the elections, after the voting places in Moscow closed, the President and the Prime Minister appeared at <strong>\u043c<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0438<\/span>\u0442\u0438\u043d\u0433 <\/strong><strong>\u0432 <\/strong><strong>\u043f\u043e\u0434\u0434<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0435<\/span>\u0440\u0436\u043a\u0443<\/strong> (a support rally). Our people can easily distinguish desire for novelty and renewal from political provocations aimed solely at destroying the Russian statehood and usurping power.)<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"http:\/\/president2012.ru\/news\/putin:-myi-ne-dali-razvalit-rossijskoe-gosudarstvo-i-uzurpirovat-vlast.html\">this article<\/a>, Putin concluded his speech with <strong>\u00ab<\/strong><strong>\u041c\u044b <\/strong><strong>\u043f\u043e\u0431\u0435\u0434<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0438<\/span>\u043b\u0438! <\/strong><strong>\u0421\u043b<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0430<\/span>\u0432\u0430 <\/strong><strong>\u0420\u043e\u0441\u0441<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0438<\/span>\u0438.\u00bb<\/strong> (We won! Glory to Russia) as <strong>\u043f\u043e <\/strong><strong>\u0435\u0433<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u043e<\/span> <\/strong><strong>\u0449\u0435\u043a<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0430<\/span>\u043c <\/strong><strong>\u0442\u0435\u043a\u043b<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0438<\/span> <\/strong><strong>\u0441\u043b<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0451<\/span>\u0437\u044b<\/strong>(tears were streaming down his face). In other words,\u00a0<strong>\u043e\u043d <\/strong><strong>\u043f\u0440\u043e\u0441\u043b\u0435\u0437<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0438<\/span>\u043b\u0441\u044f<\/strong> or <strong>\u043f\u0443\u0441\u0442<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0438<\/span>\u043b <\/strong><strong>\u0441\u043b\u0435\u0437<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0443\u00a0<\/span><\/strong>(shed a tear) as opposed to <strong>\u0437\u0430\u043f\u043b<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0430<\/span>\u043a\u0430\u043b<\/strong> (cried) or <strong>\u0437\u0430\u0440\u044b\u0434<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0430<\/span>\u043b<\/strong> (sobbed), neither one of which is viewed as manly or presidential.<\/p>\n<p>There are quite a few <strong>\u0438\u0437\u0431<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0438<\/span>\u0442\u044b\u0435 <\/strong><strong>\u0444\u0440<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0430<\/span>\u0437\u044b<\/strong> (trite phrases) or <strong>\u043a\u043b\u0438\u0448<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0435<\/span><\/strong> (clich\u00e9s) that include the word <strong>\u0441\u043b<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0451<\/span>\u0437\u044b<\/strong> (tears).<\/p>\n<p>For example, <strong>\u043f\u0440\u043e\u043c<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u043e<\/span>\u043a\u0448\u0430\u044f <\/strong><strong>\u043e\u0442 <\/strong><strong>\u0441\u043b\u0451\u0437 <\/strong><strong>\u043f\u043e\u0434<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0443<\/span>\u0448\u043a\u0430<\/strong> (a pillow soaked with tears) is usually something reserved for a romance novel in which a heart-broken heroine cries <strong>\u043c<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u043e<\/span>\u0440\u0435 <\/strong><strong>\u0441\u043b\u0451\u0437<\/strong> (an ocean of tears; lit: a sea of tears).<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u0421\u0447\u0430\u0441\u0442\u043b<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0438<\/span>\u0432\u044b\u0435 <\/strong><strong>\u0434<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0435<\/span>\u0442\u0441\u043a\u0438\u0435 <\/strong><strong>\u0441\u043b<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0451<\/span>\u0437\u044b<\/strong> (tears of a happy child) might be called for in a children\u2019s story if, say, the little one finds his hamster which he <strong>\u043b<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u044e<\/span>\u0431\u0438\u0442 <\/strong><strong>\u0434\u043e <\/strong><strong>\u0441\u043b\u0451\u0437<\/strong> (loves to pieces; lit: loves to tears)<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u0413<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u043e<\/span>\u0440\u044c\u043a\u0438\u0435 <\/strong><strong>\u0441\u043b<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0451<\/span>\u0437\u044b<\/strong> (bitter tears) are shed at <strong>\u0440\u0430\u0441\u0441\u0442\u0430\u0432<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0430<\/span>\u043d\u0438\u0435<\/strong> (parting), but could also be <strong>\u0441\u043b<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0451<\/span>\u0437\u044b <\/strong><strong>\u0441\u043e\u0436\u0430\u043b<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0435<\/span>\u043d\u0438\u044f <\/strong><strong>\u0438 <\/strong><strong>\u0440\u0430\u0441\u043a<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0430<\/span>\u044f\u043d\u0438\u044f<\/strong> (tears or regret and repentance)<\/p>\n<p>If a character sheds <strong>\u043a\u0440\u043e\u043a\u043e\u0434<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0438<\/span>\u043b\u043e\u0432\u044b <\/strong><strong>\u0441\u043b<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0451<\/span>\u0437\u044b<\/strong> (crocodile tears), you can bet your money that he\u2019s up to no good.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u0421\u043a\u0443\u043f<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u044b<\/span>\u0435 <\/strong><strong>\u0441\u043b<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0451<\/span>\u0437\u044b<\/strong> (scanty tears) are reserved for men and sometimes for women hardened by life\u2019s tribulations.<\/p>\n<p>Even in otherwise somber stories or movies, there are moments of comic relief when we might experience <strong>\u0441\u043c\u0435\u0445 <\/strong><strong>\u0441\u043a\u0432\u043e\u0437\u044c <\/strong><strong>\u0441\u043b<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0451<\/span>\u0437\u044b<\/strong> (laughter through tears).<\/p>\n<p>So while Russia\u2019s <strong>\u0426\u0435\u043d\u0442\u0440\u0438\u0437\u0431\u0438\u0440\u043a<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u043e<\/span>\u043c<\/strong> (Central Election Committee) is finalizing the results and news media follows up on widespread reports of election fraud, maybe we can watch Putin\u2019s rally speech one more time.
