Now, this translation was done by David and other members of <strong>\u043a\u0440\u0443\u0436<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u043e<\/span>\u043a \u00ab<\/strong><strong>\u0416\u0443\u0440\u0430\u0432\u043b<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0438<\/span>\u00bb<\/strong> (the Zhuravli group), first using Google Translation (Welsh into Russian). The members of the group then worked on improving the results produced by Google.<\/p>\n<p>David posted the entire translation in the comments asking for suggestions on how to improve it. Same is with greetings. <strong>\u041f\u0440\u0438\u0432<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0435<\/span>\u0442<\/strong> is very informal and would not be used in this case. It\u2019s always a safe bet to match the level of formality to the one afforded to you by your Russian counterpart. In this case, <strong>\u0417\u0434\u0440<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0430<\/span>\u0432\u0441\u0442\u0432\u0443\u0439\u0442\u0435<\/strong> (how do you do) or <strong>\u0414<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u043e<\/span>\u0431\u0440\u044b\u0439 <\/strong><strong>\u0434\u0435\u043d\u044c<\/strong> (Good afternoon) are appropriate.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u0414\u0430, \u043c\u043d\u0435 \u0431\u044b \u0445\u043e\u0442<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0435<\/span>\u043b\u043e\u0441\u044c \u0449<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0451<\/span>\u0442\u043a\u0443<\/strong>. I\u2019m not sure why Russians use this construct <strong>\u043c\u043d\u0435 <\/strong><strong>\u0431\u044b <\/strong><strong>\u0445\u043e\u0442<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0435<\/span>\u043b\u043e\u0441\u044c<\/strong> instead of <strong>\u044f <\/strong><strong>\u0445\u043e\u0447<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0443<\/span><\/strong> in polite adult conversations. Maybe the direct <strong>\u044f <\/strong><strong>\u0445\u043e\u0447<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0443<\/span><\/strong> is seen as <strong>\u043d\u0435\u0441\u043a\u0440<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u043e<\/span>\u043c\u043d\u044b\u0439<\/strong> (immodest) or <strong>\u0441\u043b<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0438<\/span>\u0448\u043a\u043e\u043c <\/strong><strong>\u0441\u043a<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u043e<\/span>\u0440\u043e\u043f\u0430\u043b<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0438<\/span>\u0442\u0435\u043b\u044c\u043d\u044b\u0439<\/strong> (overly hasty) of an answer. For example, <strong>\u0437\u0443\u0431\u043d<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0430<\/span>\u044f <\/strong><strong>\u0449<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0451<\/span>\u0442\u043a\u0430 <\/strong><strong>\u0447<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0438<\/span>\u0441\u0442\u0438\u0442 <\/strong><strong>\u0437<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0443<\/span>\u0431\u044b<\/strong> (toothbrush brushes teeth), etc. The difficulty I have here is explaining the exact rules (if any) for when to use <strong>\u0447<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0438<\/span>\u0441\u0442\u0438\u0442\u044c<\/strong> (to clean) and when to use <strong>\u043e\u0447\u0438\u0449<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0430<\/span>\u0442\u044c<\/strong> (to clean, to cleanse, to clear).
