Since it\u2019s summer now, let\u2019s not be serious. Let\u2019s have some fun and read a story that just might happen to you some day this summer. And if it doesn’t, at least you’ll learn some useful words and phrases.<\/p>\n

Why does \u0436\u0430<\/span>\u0440\u043a\u0430\u044f \u043f\u043e\u0433\u043e<\/span>\u0434\u0430<\/strong> (hot weather) makes us want \u0436\u0430<\/span>\u0440\u0438\u0442\u044c \u0435\u0434\u0443<\/span> \u043d\u0430 \u043e\u0433\u043d\u0435<\/span><\/strong> (to grill food), is a mystery, but it does. Personally, I prefer \u043c\u0430\u043d\u0433\u0430<\/span>\u043b<\/strong> (charcoal grill) even though \u0441 \u043d\u0438\u043c \u0431\u043e<\/span>\u043b\u044c\u0448\u0435 \u0432\u043e\u0437\u043d\u0438<\/span><\/strong> (it requires more work).<\/p>\n

The most essential and most-often forgotten item when it comes to grilling is \u043a\u043e\u0440\u043e<\/span>\u0431\u043a\u0430 \u0441\u043f\u0438<\/span>\u0447\u0435\u043a<\/strong> (a box of matches). Unless, of course, you can \u0434\u043e\u0431\u044b\u0432\u0430<\/span>\u0442\u044c \u043e\u0433\u043e<\/span>\u043d\u044c \u0442\u0440\u0435<\/span>\u043d\u0438\u0435\u043c<\/strong> (start the fire by friction) or happen to have \u043e\u0433\u043d\u0438<\/span>\u0432\u043e<\/strong> (flint and steel).<\/p>\n

As we know \u0441\u043f\u0438<\/span>\u0447\u043a\u0438 – \u0434\u0435<\/span>\u0442\u044f\u043c \u043d\u0435 \u0438\u0433\u0440\u0443<\/span>\u0448\u043a\u0430<\/strong> (matches aren\u2019t for children to play with). So we tend to put them far enough away, \u0441 \u0433\u043b\u0430\u0437 \u0434\u043e\u043b\u043e<\/span>\u0439<\/strong> (out of sight). Next thing we know, we can\u2019t remember \u0433\u0434\u0435 \u043b\u0435\u0436\u0430<\/span>\u0442 \u0441\u043f\u0438<\/span>\u0447\u043a\u0438<\/strong> (where the matches are). Usually, it\u2019s the moment when \u043d\u0430\u043c<\/strong> \u043f\u0440\u0438\u0441\u043f\u0438<\/span>\u0447\u0438\u0432\u0430\u0435\u0442<\/strong> (we feel a strong urge to immediately do something) to grill and there is not a moment to spare.<\/p>\n

And so picture this: \u0434\u0440\u0443\u0437\u044c\u044f<\/span> \u043d\u0430 \u043f\u043e\u0440\u043e<\/span>\u0433\u0435<\/strong> (friends are at the door) and \u0448\u0430\u0448\u043b\u044b<\/span>\u043a \u0443\u0436\u0435<\/span> \u043d\u0430\u043d\u0438<\/span>\u0437\u0430\u043d \u043d\u0430 \u0448\u0430\u043c\u043f\u0443\u0440\u044b<\/span><\/strong> (shish kebabs are already put on skewers) and we are \u0432 \u0430\u0436\u0438\u043e\u0442\u0430<\/span>\u0436\u0435<\/strong> (frantically) searching the house for even just one \u0441\u043f\u0438<\/span>\u0447\u043a\u0430<\/strong>. Finally, a buddy who is \u043a\u0443\u0440\u0438<\/span>\u043b\u044c\u0449\u0438\u043a<\/strong> (a smoker) hands us his matches or \u0437\u0430\u0436\u0438\u0433\u0430<\/span>\u043b\u043a\u0430<\/strong> (a lighter) and all is well again. Except we can\u2019t stop thinking about where these \u043f\u0440\u043e\u043a\u043b\u044f<\/span>\u0442\u044b\u0435 \u0441\u043f\u0438<\/span>\u0447\u043a\u0438<\/strong> (darn matches) are. The question \u0432\u0442\u0435\u043c\u044f<\/span>\u0448\u0438\u043b\u0441\u044f \u0432 \u0433\u043e<\/span>\u043b\u043e\u0432\u0443<\/strong> (got drummed into our head) and we feel a headache coming over.<\/p>\n

We might get so absorbed with this problem, that we have this absent-minded look on our face and keep scratching \u0442\u0435<\/span>\u043c\u044f<\/strong> (top of the head) all the while remembering the curious fact that \u0442\u0435<\/span>\u043c\u044f<\/strong> is one of only 10 Russian neuter nouns<\/a> that end in -\u043c\u044f<\/strong> (if you are thinking this, then definitely vote for Transparent Language<\/a> blog!)<\/p>\n

But the get-together is going on and on and deep into the night, as all \u0434\u0443\u0448\u0435<\/span>\u0432\u043d\u044b\u0435<\/strong> (soulful) Russian get-togethers do. And so \u0441\u0442\u0430\u043d\u043e\u0432\u0438\u0442\u0441\u044f \u0442\u0435\u043c\u043d\u043e<\/span><\/strong> (it gets dark) and one of the guests jokingly asks \u0434\u043e\u0440\u043e\u0433\u0438<\/span>\u0435 \u0433\u043e<\/span>\u0441\u0442\u0438, \u0430 \u043d\u0435 \u043d\u0430\u0434\u043e\u0435<\/span>\u043b\u0438 \u043b\u0438 \u0432\u0430\u043c \u0445\u043e\u0437\u044f<\/span>\u0435\u0432\u0430<\/strong> (dear guests, aren\u2019t you tired of the hosts yet). After another hour or so as everyone is still in the process of saying goodbyes, the same guest recalls an old joke<\/p>\n

But you flip the switch and stand in the lit doorway until the last guest leaves.<\/p>\n
