Is your summer bucket list ready? In case you don\u2019t know what a bucket list is, it\u2019s a list of things you want to \u0441\u0434\u0435<\/span>\u043b\u0430\u0442\u044c<\/strong> (to do), \u0432\u044b<\/span>\u043f\u043e\u043b\u043d\u0438\u0442\u044c<\/strong> (to accomplish), \u0434\u043e\u0441\u0442\u0438<\/span>\u0447\u044c<\/strong> (to achieve), \u0443\u0432\u0438<\/span>\u0434\u0435\u0442\u044c<\/strong> (to see), \u043f\u043e\u043f\u0440\u043e<\/span>\u0431\u043e\u0432\u0430\u0442\u044c<\/strong> (to try, to taste), and otherwise \u0438\u0441\u043f\u044b\u0442\u0430<\/span>\u0442\u044c<\/strong> (to experience) before you \u0441\u044b\u0433\u0440\u0430<\/span>\u0442\u044c \u0432 \u044f<\/span>\u0449\u0438\u043a<\/strong> (kick the bucket; die). In case of the summer bucket list, it\u2019s the things you want to do before \u043b\u0435<\/span>\u0442\u043e \u0437\u0430\u043a\u043e<\/span>\u043d\u0447\u0438\u0442\u0441\u044f<\/strong> (summer is over).<\/p>\n

In short, a bucket list is \u0441\u043f\u0438<\/span>\u0441\u043e\u043a \u0442\u043e\u0433\u043e<\/span>, \u0447\u0442\u043e \u043d\u0443<\/span>\u0436\u043d\u043e \u0441\u0434\u0435<\/span>\u043b\u0430\u0442\u044c \u043f\u0435<\/span>\u0440\u0435\u0434 \u0442\u0435\u043c, \u043a\u0430\u043a \u0443\u043c\u0435\u0440\u0435<\/span>\u0442\u044c<\/strong> or before a major milestone on the calendar or in one\u2019s life.<\/p>\n

So let me ask in Russian:<\/p>\n

\u0427\u0442\u043e \u0432\u044b \u0431\u0443<\/span>\u0434\u0435\u0442\u0435 \u0434\u0435<\/span>\u043b\u0430\u0442\u044c \u044d<\/span>\u0442\u0438\u043c \u043b\u0435<\/span>\u0442\u043e\u043c?<\/strong> (What will you be doing this summer?)<\/p>\n

Here I use future tense and whatever your plans are, you will start with \u042f \u0431\u0443<\/span>\u0434\u0443…<\/strong> (I will…)<\/p>\n

Another way to ask the same question is by using the wonderful Russian word \u0441\u043e\u0431\u0438\u0440\u0430<\/span>\u0442\u044c\u0441\u044f<\/strong> (to get ready) instead of the future tense:<\/p>\n

\u0427\u0442\u043e \u0432\u044b \u0441\u043e\u0431\u0438\u0440\u0430<\/span>\u0435\u0442\u0435\u0441\u044c \u0434\u0435<\/span>\u043b\u0430\u0442\u044c \u044d<\/span>\u0442\u0438\u043c \u043b\u0435<\/span>\u0442\u043e\u043c?<\/strong> (What are you getting ready to do this summer?)<\/p>\n

Notice that now I use the present tense in both the question and the answer: \u042f \u0441\u043e\u0431\u0438\u0440\u0430<\/span>\u044e\u0441\u044c…<\/strong> (I am getting ready to…)<\/p>\n

Of course, the least formal way of asking would be<\/p>\n

\u041a\u0430\u043a\u0438<\/span>\u0435 \u043f\u043b\u0430<\/span>\u043d\u044b \u043d\u0430 \u043b\u0435<\/span>\u0442\u043e?<\/strong> (What are [your] summer plans?)<\/p>\n

You can answer with a variety of options, including the two above-mentioned, \u044f \u0431\u0443<\/span>\u0434\u0443<\/strong> and \u044f \u0441\u043e\u0431\u0438\u0440\u0430<\/span>\u044e\u0441\u044c<\/strong>. Other possible answers are<\/p>\n

\u044f \u0434\u0443<\/span>\u043c\u0430\u044e<\/strong> (I reckon) as in \u044f \u0434\u0443<\/span>\u043c\u0430\u044e \u043f\u043e\u0435<\/span>\u0445\u0430\u0442\u044c \u043a \u0442\u0451<\/span>\u0442\u0435 \u0432 \u0421\u0430\u0440\u0430<\/span>\u0442\u043e\u0432<\/strong> (I reckon, I\u2019ll visit my aunt in Saratov);
\n\u044f \u043d\u0430\u0434\u0435<\/span>\u044e\u0441\u044c<\/strong> (I hope) as in \u044f \u043d\u0430\u0434\u0435<\/span>\u044e\u0441\u044c \u0432\u044b<\/span>\u0431\u0440\u0430\u0442\u044c\u0441\u044f \u043d\u0430 \u043f\u0430<\/span>\u0440\u0443 \u0434\u043d\u0435\u0439 \u043d\u0430 \u043f\u0440\u0438\u0440\u043e<\/span>\u0434\u0443<\/strong> (I hope to get out of town for a couple of days; lit: hope to get to nature)
\n\u044f \u043f\u043b\u0430\u043d\u0438<\/span>\u0440\u0443\u044e<\/strong> (I plan) as in \u044f \u043f\u043b\u0430\u043d\u0438<\/span>\u0440\u0443\u044e \u043f\u043e \u043f\u044f<\/span>\u0442\u043d\u0438\u0446\u0430\u043c \u0440\u0430\u0431\u043e<\/span>\u0442\u0430\u0442\u044c \u0438\u0437 \u0434\u043e<\/span>\u043c\u0443<\/strong> (I plan to work from home on Fridays)<\/p>\n

Since summer is a season for travel, one of the most frequently asked questions is<\/p>\n

\u0412\u044b \u043a\u0443\u0434\u0430<\/span>-\u043d\u0438\u0431\u0443<\/span>\u0434\u044c \u0435<\/span>\u0434\u0435\u0442\u0435 \u044d<\/span>\u0442\u0438\u043c \u043b\u0435<\/span>\u0442\u043e\u043c?<\/strong> (Are you travelling somewhere this summer?)<\/p>\n

Do not confuse the verb \u0435<\/span>\u0434\u0435\u0442\u0435<\/strong> with \u0435\u0434\u0438<\/span>\u0442\u0435<\/strong>. \u0415<\/span>\u0434\u0435\u0442\u0435<\/strong> is a form of \u0435<\/span>\u0445\u0430\u0442\u044c<\/strong> (to go) while \u0435\u0434\u0438<\/span>\u0442\u0435<\/strong> is a form of \u0435\u0441\u0442\u044c<\/strong> (to eat):
\n\u0422\u044b \u0433\u043e\u0432\u043e\u0440\u0438<\/span>\u043b\u0430, \u0432\u044b \u0441 \u043c\u0443<\/span>\u0436\u0435\u043c \u0435<\/span>\u0434\u0435\u0442\u0435 \u0432 \u0418\u0442\u0430<\/span>\u043b\u0438\u044e \u044d<\/span>\u0442\u0438\u043c \u043b\u0435<\/span>\u0442\u043e\u043c?<\/strong> (Did you say you and your husband are travelling to Italy this summer?)
