While at my university one day, I was walking with my Russian professor and he said <strong>\u041a\u0430\u043a<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u043e<\/span>\u0439 \u043a\u0440\u0430\u0441<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0438<\/span>\u0432\u044b\u0439 \u0448\u0430\u0440\u0444, \u041d\u0430\u0442<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0430<\/span>\u0448\u0430<\/strong> [What a beautiful scarf, Natasha]. I thanked him and said <strong>\u042f \u0435\u0433<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u043e<\/span> \u0441\u0430\u043c<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0430<\/span> \u0432\u044f\u0437<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0430<\/span>\u043b\u0430<\/strong> [I knitted it myself]. The funny thing is I did not intend for <strong>\u041f<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0443<\/span>\u0442\u0438\u043d<\/strong> [Putin] to be in the photo \u2013\u00a0it just kind of turned out that way since that book was in the background!<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In Russian, <strong>\u0432\u044f\u0437<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0430<\/span>\u0442\u044c<\/strong> means &#8220;to knit&#8221; and conjugates like this: <strong>\u044f \u0432\u044f\u0436<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0443<\/span>, \u0442\u044b \u0432<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u044f<\/span>\u0436\u0435\u0448\u044c, \u043e\u043d\/\u043e\u043d\u0430 \u0432<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u044f<\/span>\u0436\u0435\u0442, \u043c\u044b \u0432<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u044f<\/span>\u0437\u0436\u0435\u043c, \u0432\u044b \u0432<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u044f<\/span>\u0436\u0435\u0442\u0435, \u043e\u043d\u0438 \u0432<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u044f<\/span>\u0436\u0443\u0442<\/strong>. The perfective is <strong>\u0441\u0432\u044f\u0437<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0430<\/span>\u0442\u044c<\/strong> and has the same shift of <strong>\u0437<\/strong> to <strong>\u0436<\/strong> when it conjugates.<\/p>\n<p>To be able to knit, all you need is <strong>\u0441\u043f<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0438<\/span>\u0446\u044b \u0434\u043b\u044f \u0432\u044f\u0437<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0430<\/span>\u043d\u0438\u044f<\/strong> [knitting needles] and <strong>\u043f\u0440<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u044f<\/span>\u0436\u0430<\/strong> [yarn]. With these, you will make <strong>\u043f<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0435<\/span>\u0442\u043b\u044f<\/strong> [a stitch] and after a while, you will have an entire garmet.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u041a\u043e\u0433\u0434<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0430<\/span> \u044f \u0431\u044b\u043b<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0430<\/span> \u0432 \u0448\u043a<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u043e<\/span>\u043b\u0435<\/strong> [When I was in school], I did not know how to knit for a while. I first learned to crochet, which in Russian is <strong>\u0432\u044f\u0437<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0430<\/span>\u0442\u044c \u043a\u0440\u044e\u0447\u043a<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u043e<\/span>\u043c<\/strong>. <strong>\u041f\u043e-\u043c<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u043e<\/span>\u0435\u043c\u0443<\/strong> [In my opinion], this is a bit easier than knitting. There are many tutorials on the internet (<strong>\u043d\u0430 \u0440<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0443<\/span>\u0441\u0441\u043a\u043e\u043c \u0438 \u043d\u0430 \u0430\u043d\u0433\u043b<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0438<\/span>\u0439\u0441\u043a\u043e\u043c<\/strong> [in Russian and in English]) if you are interested in learning.<\/p>\n<p>Sewing is different. You will need <strong>\u0448\u0432<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0435<\/span>\u0439\u043d\u0430\u044f \u043c\u0430\u0448<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0438<\/span>\u043d\u0430<\/strong> [a sewing machine], <strong>\u0442\u043a\u0430\u043d\u044c<\/strong> [fabric], <strong>\u043d<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0438<\/span>\u0442\u043a\u0438<\/strong> [thread], and <strong>\u0438\u0433<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u043e<\/span>\u043b\u043a\u0430<\/strong> [a needle]. And the thread won&#8217;t just be loose, of course, but on a <strong>\u0448\u043f<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u0443<\/span>\u043b\u044c\u043a\u0430<\/strong> [bobbin, spool]. I think sewing is a lot more difficult than knitting or crocheting. The verb &#8220;to sew&#8221; in Russian is <strong>\u0448\u0438\u0442\u044c<\/strong> and conjugates as follows: <strong>\u044f \u0448\u044c\u044e, \u0442\u044b \u0448\u044c\u0451\u0448\u044c, \u043e\u043d\/\u043e\u043d\u0430 \u0448\u044c\u0451\u0442, \u043c\u044b \u0448\u044c\u0451\u043c, \u0432\u044b \u0448\u044c\u0451\u0442\u0435, \u043e\u043d\u0438 \u0448\u044c\u044e\u0442<\/strong>.
