I opened my verb book (yes, I have a verb book full of Russian verbs \u2013 don&#8217;t laugh) and decided on <strong>\u043f\u043e\u0441\u0432\u044f\u0449<u>\u0430<\/u>\u0442\u044c\/\u043f\u043e\u0441\u0432\u044f\u0442<u>\u0438<\/u>\u0442\u044c<\/strong>. I&#8217;ll have to tell my mom this next time we&#8217;re talking about family&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u041e\u043d \u043f\u043e\u0441\u0432\u044f\u0442<u>\u0438<\/u>\u043b \u043f<u>\u0435<\/u>\u0440\u0432\u0443\u044e \u043a\u043d<u>\u0438<\/u>\u0433\u0443 \u0441\u0432\u043e<u>\u0435<\/u>\u0439 \u043c<u>\u0430<\/u>\u0442\u0435\u0440\u0438.<\/strong> [He dedicated his first book to his mother.] Notice that in this sentence, the thing that is being dedicated is accusative (<strong>\u043a\u043d<u>\u0438<\/u>\u0433\u0443<\/strong>) and the person to whom it is dedicated is dative (<strong>\u043c<u>\u0430<\/u>\u0442\u0435\u0440\u0438<\/strong>).<\/p>\n<p>This verb can also be used in the sense of letting someone in on a secret, like in this example: <strong>\u041d\u0435 \u043f\u043e\u0441\u0432\u044f\u0449<u>\u0430<\/u>\u0439\u0442\u0435 \u043c\u0435\u043d<u>\u044f<\/u> \u0432 \u0432<u>\u0430<\/u>\u0448\u0438 \u0442<u>\u0430<\/u>\u0439\u043d\u044b.<\/strong> [Don&#8217;t let me in on your secrets.] Notice that it is <strong>\u0432<\/strong> + accusative here.<\/p>\n<p>And finally, the reason why I used a photo of <strong>\u0440\u043e\u043c<u>\u0430<\/u>\u043d \u00ab\u0411<u>\u0435<\/u>\u043b\u0430\u044f \u0433\u0432<u>\u0430<\/u>\u0440\u0434\u0438\u044f\u00bb<\/strong> [the novel <em>The White Guard<\/em>] for this post: when I was first starting to read literature in Russian, I picked up a copy of <strong>\u00ab\u0411<u>\u0435<\/u>\u043b\u0430\u044f \u0433\u0432<u>\u0430<\/u>\u0440\u0434\u0438\u044f\u00bb<\/strong> and the first thing I saw was Bulgakov&#8217;s dedication: <strong>\u041f\u043e\u0441\u0432\u044f\u0449<u>\u0430<\/u>\u0435\u0442\u0441\u044f \u041b\u044e\u0431<u>\u043e<\/u>\u0432\u0438 \u0415\u0432\u0433<u>\u0435<\/u>\u043d\u044c\u0435\u0432\u043d\u0435 \u0411\u0435\u043b\u043e\u0437\u0451\u0440\u0441\u043a\u043e\u0439<\/strong> [Dedicated to Lyubov Yevgenevna Belozyorskaya].
