Since I&#8217;ve evidently been far too busy to blog about grammar and the like? Well, as always <strong>\u00ab\u043c\u043e<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0451<\/span> \u0435\u0436\u0435\u0433<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u043e<\/span>\u0434\u043d\u043e\u0435 \u0432\u043e\u0437\u0432\u0440<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0430<\/span>\u0449\u0435\u043d\u0438\u0435 \u0432 \u0415\u043a\u0430\u0442\u0435\u0440\u0438\u043d\u0431<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0443<\/span>\u0440\u0433\u00bb<\/strong> [my annual return to Yekaterinburg] means dealing with a lot of stuff, mainly collecting <strong>\u00ab\u0440<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0430<\/span>\u0437\u043d\u044b\u0435 \u0441\u043f\u0440<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0430<\/span>\u0432\u043a\u0438\u00bb<\/strong> [different <em>\u2018documents&#8217;<\/em> &#8211; the magical Russian word <strong>\u00ab\u0441\u043f\u0440<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0430<\/span>\u0432\u043a\u0430\u00bb<\/strong> means <em>\u2018reference; enquiry&#8217;<\/em> in English but exists in Russian reality in the form of a small piece of paper that proves something or other about your person and is authorized by an official stamp and an accompanying signature]. Life in Russia demands a wide and assorted array of different <strong>\u00ab\u0441\u043f\u0440<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0430<\/span>\u0432\u043a\u0438\u00bb<\/strong>! First of all I had to gather together a small collection of <strong>\u00ab\u043c\u0435\u0434\u0438\u0446<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0438<\/span>\u043d\u0441\u043a\u0438\u0435 \u0441\u043f\u0440<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0430<\/span>\u0432\u043a\u0438\u00bb<\/strong> [medical <em>&#8216;documents&#8217;<\/em>] in order to be allowed to live in the university&#8217;s <strong>\u00ab\u043e\u0431\u0449\u0435\u0436<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0438<\/span>\u0442\u0438\u0435\u00bb<\/strong> [dormitory; hostel]. Most of you readers are already &#8211; I think &#8211; aware of the rule of having to obtain a negative HIV-test before applying for a visa to the Russian Federation. Well, actually you have to prove you&#8217;re even healthier than that once you arrive in the country &#8211; at least if you&#8217;re going to be living in a <strong>\u00ab\u0441\u0442\u0443\u0434<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0435<\/span>\u043d\u0447\u0435\u0441\u043a\u043e\u0435 \u043e\u0431\u0449\u0435\u0436<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0438<\/span>\u0442\u0438\u0435\u00bb<\/strong> [student dormitory]. If you don&#8217;t have one then you have to say: <strong>\u00ab\u0423 \u043c\u0435\u043d<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u044f<\/span> \u043d\u0435\u0442 \u0441\u043f\u0440<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0430<\/span>\u0432\u043a\u0418\u00bb<\/strong>. But thankfully &#8211; as you can probably tell by the picture above &#8211; I didn&#8217;t have that problem this week when I officially reclaimed my room in the dormitory for yet another year to come. My favorite is the one with the x-ray of my lungs&#8230; looking good, <strong>\u00ab\u043d\u0435 \u043f\u0440<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0430<\/span>\u0432\u0434\u0430 \u043b\u0438?\u00bb<\/strong> [is it not true (or: don&#8217;t you think so)?]<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Now the picture above is all that remains of these <strong>\u00ab\u0441\u043f\u0440<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0430<\/span>\u0432\u043a\u0438\u00bb<\/strong>. I had to hand them over to the <strong>\u00ab\u0437\u0430\u0432<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0435<\/span>\u0434\u0443\u044e\u0449\u0430\u044f \u043e\u0431\u0449\u0435\u0436<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0438<\/span>\u0442\u0438\u0435\u043c\u00bb<\/strong> [manager <em>(fem.)<\/em> of the dormitory] order to receive my new <strong>\u00ab\u043f\u0440<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u043e<\/span>\u043f\u0443\u0441\u043a\u00bb<\/strong> [pass] and be allowed to come and go here as I&#8217;d like for the next academic year.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\u00a0Generally speaking, I&#8217;m very excited to be back in Russia! Even though this is my sixth year in Russia &#8211; <strong>\u00ab\u043c\u043e\u0439 \u0448\u0435\u0441\u0442<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u043e<\/span>\u0439 \u0433\u043e\u0434 \u0432 \u0420\u043e\u0441\u0441<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0438<\/span>\u0438\u00bb<\/strong> &#8211; and I should be getting tired of this country by now, I am not. Not at all! There&#8217;s always something left to explore here, and that&#8217;s one of the reasons why <strong>\u00ab\u044f <em>\u0442\u0430\u043a<\/em> \u043b\u044e\u0431\u043b<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u044e<\/span> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u044d<\/span>\u0442\u0443 \u0441\u0442\u0440\u0430\u043d<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0443<\/span>\u00bb <\/strong>[I love this country <em>so<\/em>]! Russia is always a surprise, sometimes not-<em>so<\/em>-pleasant, but most of the time very pleasant indeed. And one can never learn everything there is to know about Russia, not to mention everything there is to say in Russian! On Monday afternoon, as I walked the streets of Yekaterinburg for the first time in more than a month and a half, I couldn&#8217;t stop smiling. It feels good to be back. And I hope that my return to Russia will mean more inspired as well as more frequent blogging! The summer is always a slow time, but I have lots of new ideas that I would like to try on the blog this fall. I am hoping to be able to give you tips on Russian movies to watch <em>(see the title of this post for where to\u00a0begin if you feel like getting a\u00a0head start)<\/em>.
