If you prefer to save, not spend, then ignore\u00a0\u0440\u0430\u0441\u043f\u0440\u043e\u0434\u0430\u0436\u0438<\/strong>\u00a0(sales) and instead learn how to talk about\u00a0\u0448\u043e\u043f\u043f\u0438\u043d\u0433<\/strong>\u00a0(shopping) in Russian.<\/p>\n

By the way, the word \u0448\u043e<\/span>\u043f\u043f\u0438\u043d\u0433<\/strong> is a new one in Russian language. How did we manage to describe the process of going to the stores and buying things before this word\u2019s arrival? We used verbs of motion, of course!<\/p>\n

\u0438\u0434\u0442\u0438<\/span>\/\u0445\u043e\u0434\u0438<\/span>\u0442\u044c \u0432 \u043c\u0430\u0433\u0430\u0437\u0438<\/span>\u043d<\/strong> – to walk to a store
\n\u0435<\/span>\u0445\u0430\u0442\u044c\/\u0435<\/span>\u0437\u0434\u0438\u0442\u044c \u0432 \u043c\u0430\u0433\u0430\u0437\u0438<\/span>\u043d<\/strong> – to drive or ride to a store
\n\u0431\u0435\u0436\u0430<\/span>\u0442\u044c\/\u0431\u0435<\/span>\u0433\u0430\u0442\u044c \u0432 \u043c\u0430\u0433\u0430\u0437\u0438<\/span>\u043d<\/strong> – to run to a store – however, the word \u201crun\u201d is not used literally, but rather to emphasize a quick trip or give a sense of being rushed.<\/p>\n

Keep in mind that the past form of \u0438\u0434\u0442\u0438<\/span><\/strong> is \u0448\u0451\u043b<\/strong> [masculine], \u0448\u043b\u0430<\/strong> [feminine] and \u0448\u043b\u043e<\/strong> [neuter]:<\/p>\n

Verbs such as \u043f\u043b\u0435\u0441\u0442\u0438<\/span>\u0441\u044c<\/strong> (to drag), \u043c\u0447\u0430<\/span>\u0442\u044c\u0441\u044f<\/strong> (to dash), and \u0433\u043d\u0430\u0442\u044c<\/strong> (to race) can be used to convey the sense of speediness:<\/p>\n

C\u043e\u0441\u0435<\/span>\u0434 \u0441 \u0430\u0432\u043e<\/span>\u0441\u044c\u043a\u043e\u0439<\/span> \u0432 \u043c\u0430\u0433\u0430\u0437\u0438<\/span>\u043d \u043f\u043e\u043f\u043b\u0451<\/span>\u043b\u0441\u044f<\/strong> – The neighbor holding a string bag is dragging his feet to a store.<\/p>\n

\u0414\u0430\u0432\u0430<\/span>\u0439, \u043f\u043e\u043c\u0447\u0430<\/span>\u043b\u0438\u0441\u044c \u0437\u0430 \u0442\u043e<\/span>\u0440\u0442\u0438\u043a\u043e\u043c, \u0430 \u0442\u043e \u0433\u043e<\/span>\u0441\u0442\u0438 \u043f\u0440\u0438\u0439\u0434\u0443<\/span>\u0442, \u0430 \u043d\u0430\u0441 \u043d\u0435\u0442<\/strong> – Let\u2019s go, run out and get a cake or else we won\u2019t be home when guests arrive<\/p>\n

The funny thing is if you want to use the word \u0448\u043e<\/span>\u043f\u043f\u0438\u043d\u0433<\/strong>, you still must use verbs of motion:<\/p>\n

\u042f \u0437\u0430<\/span>\u0432\u0442\u0440\u0430 \u0435<\/span>\u0434\u0443 \u043d\u0430 \u0448\u043e<\/span>\u043f\u043f\u0438\u043d\u0433<\/strong> – I am going (driving or riding) shopping tomorrow<\/p>\n

But here’s the good news for those who dislike verbs of motion – sometimes<\/span> you can skip them altogether<\/p>\n

\u042f –\u00a0\u043d\u0430 \u0448\u043e<\/span>\u043f\u043f\u0438\u043d\u0433<\/strong> – I am going shopping<\/p>\n

\u042f – \u0432 \u043c\u0430\u0433\u0430\u0437\u0438<\/span>\u043d \u0438 \u043d\u0430 \u0440\u044b<\/span>\u043d\u043e\u043a<\/strong> – I am going to a store and to a market<\/p>\n

\u042f – \u043f\u043e \u043c\u0430\u0433\u0430\u0437\u0438<\/span>\u043d\u0430\u043c, \u0430 \u043f\u043e\u0442\u043e<\/span>\u043c \u043a \u0431\u0430<\/span>\u0431\u0443\u0448\u043a\u0435<\/strong>\u00a0– I am going to (several) stores and then to grandmother’s<\/p>\n

LINES<\/strong><\/p>\n

Next, let\u2019s talk about \u043e<\/span>\u0447\u0435\u0440\u0435\u0434\u0438<\/strong> (lines). Black Friday\u2019s \u0434\u043b\u0438<\/span>\u043d\u043d\u044b\u0435 \u043e<\/span>\u0447\u0435\u0440\u0435\u0434\u0438<\/strong> (long lines) has become \u043f\u0440\u0438<\/span>\u0442\u0447\u0430 \u0432\u043e \u044f\u0437\u044b<\/span>\u0446\u0435\u0445<\/strong><\/span> (proverbial). Here are some useful verbs for standing in lines:<\/p>\n

Don\u2019t worry if you can\u2019t remember these verbs. Russian language is very flexible and allows for sentences without predicates:<\/p>\n
