Get it?<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">This week&#8217;s Russian word is very simple yet at the same time of great importance in the broad context of Russian culture. Since Russians have a tendency to take their personal relationships more serious than anything else in life, it makes sense that they also care much more about what&#8217;s going on within their own family and thus also in their own home than, for an example, <strong>\u00ab\u0432 \u041a\u0440\u0435\u043c\u043b<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0435<\/span>\u00bb <\/strong>[in the Kremlin]. The fact that Russians put their home life and loved ones before anything else can not only be seen in society, but also in Russian language. Russian has many different words one can use when talking of the people closest to one&#8217;s heart: not just the obvious <strong>\u00ab\u0441\u0435\u043c\u044c<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u044f<\/span>\u00bb<\/strong> [family]. When talking about your loved ones in Russian you can also make use of adjectives like <strong>\u00ab\u0431\u043b<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0438<\/span>\u0437\u043a\u0438\u0435\u00bb<\/strong> [folks, one&#8217;s family <em>(informal)<\/em>], <strong>\u00ab\u0440\u043e\u0434\u043d<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u044b<\/span>\u0435\u00bb<\/strong> [relatives; people who are so close to you that they feel like members of your family even though you&#8217;re not really related at all], <strong>\u00ab\u0441\u0432\u043e<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0438<\/span>\u00bb<\/strong> [literally a pronoun meaning <em>\u2018their, belonging to them&#8217;<\/em>, but should in this context be translated as family members, relatives; good friends; people living with you] or the word of the week: <strong>\u00ab\u0434\u043e\u043c<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0430<\/span>\u0448\u043d\u0438\u0435\u00bb<\/strong> [<em>lit.<\/em> <em>\u2018people sharing one home&#8217;<\/em>, not necessarily relatives, could be roommates too].<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The word of the week is <strong>\u00ab\u043f\u0440\u0438\u043b\u0430\u0433<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0430<\/span>\u0442\u0435\u043b\u044c\u043d\u043e\u0435\u00bb <\/strong>[an adjective] &#8211; <strong>\u00ab\u0434\u043e\u043c<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0430<\/span>\u0448\u043d\u0438\u0439\u00bb<\/strong> [homey, domestic; indoor; domiciliary; pet] &#8211; made both from <strong>\u00ab\u0441\u0443\u0449\u0435\u0441\u0442\u0432<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0438<\/span>\u0442\u0435\u043b\u044c\u043d\u043e\u0435\u00bb <\/strong>[the noun] <strong>\u00ab\u0434\u043e\u043c\u00bb<\/strong> [house, home; establishment; dwelling, residence] and the <strong>\u00ab\u043d\u0430\u0440<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0435<\/span>\u0447\u0438\u0435\u00bb<\/strong> [the adverb] <strong>\u00ab\u0434<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u043e<\/span>\u043c\u0430\u00bb<\/strong> [at home, at one&#8217;s residence; within the home; home; in]. Basically speaking, you should be able to use the adjective together with any Russian noun when you want to point out that this noun has something to do with your home. Or someone else&#8217;s home, for that matter!
