Yes, today&#8217;s blog post is about making <strong>\u00ab<a href=\"http:\/\/ru.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/%D0%9E%D0%BB%D0%B8%D0%B2%D1%8C%D0%B5_(%D1%81%D0%B0%D0%BB%D0%B0%D1%82)\" target=\"_blank\">\u041e\u043b\u0438\u0432\u044c<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0435<\/span><\/a>\u00bb<\/strong> [<em>lit. \u2018Oliv&#8217;e&#8217;<\/em>, mostly known in the rest of the world as <em>\u2018<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Russian_salad\" target=\"_blank\">the Russian salad&#8217;<\/a><\/em>]! Remaining true to the season and its tradition, yesterday I decided to make this <strong>\u00ab\u0431\u043b<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u044e<\/span>\u0434\u043e\u00bb <\/strong>[dish] for the first time in my life. Despite having celebrated New Year&#8217;s Eve in Russia five times I had not up until yesterday evening tasted <strong>\u00ab\u041e\u043b\u0438\u0432\u044c<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0435<\/span>\u00bb<\/strong>. Why? one might wonder. Because I&#8217;m a vegetarian and this dish &#8211; like plenty of other delicious dishes belonging to <strong>\u00ab<a href=\"http:\/\/ru.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/%D0%A0%D1%83%D1%81%D1%81%D0%BA%D0%B0%D1%8F_%D0%BA%D1%83%D1%85%D0%BD%D1%8F\" target=\"_blank\">\u0440<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0443<\/span>\u0441\u0441\u043a\u0430\u044f \u043a<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0443<\/span>\u0445\u043d\u044f<\/a>\u00bb<\/strong> [<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Russian_cuisine\" target=\"_blank\">Russian cuisine<\/a>] &#8211; contains meat. Yesterday I made it with soy instead of meat, perhaps not such a great idea considering that I&#8217;ve never even tried it before, but it turned out very tasty! I used <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sgotov.ru\/salolive.html\" target=\"_blank\">this recipe<\/a> when I made my salad, thinking it would not be <em>\u2018enough&#8217;<\/em> in the beginning. Until I mixed all the ingredients together in a bowl <em>(well, in a plastic round box really &#8211; just because this made it easier for me to put it in the fridge for an hour first and then take it with me to my cousin&#8217;s house)<\/em> did I realize that it was indeed ENOUGH for about eight people. Here&#8217;s an explanation of how I did it in a simple step-by-step tale. But when New Year&#8217;s Eve finally came around yesterday it just didn&#8217;t feel like a true <strong>\u00ab\u043f\u0440<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0430<\/span>\u0437\u0434\u043d\u0438\u043a\u00bb <\/strong>[holiday] to me without grabbing a knife and slicing up something&#8230; Thus I made my first-ever, home-made <strong>\u00ab\u041e\u043b\u0438\u0432\u044c<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0435<\/span>\u00bb<\/strong> and served it to people who had never been to Russia at my cousin&#8217;s New Year&#8217;s party last night. \u00a0It was eaten with pleasure and also received very good reactions from non-Russophiles. One of them said: &#8220;To me this is how Russia must taste!&#8221; And I suppose that&#8217;s correct.
