This blog has some of the best readers out there and thus duly receive plenty of excellent comments from you guys. \u00ab\u0421\u043f\u0430\u0441\u0438<\/span>\u0431\u043e\u0447\u043a\u0438!\u00bb<\/strong> [\u2018(tiny) thanks!’ <\/em>a slang version of \u00ab\u0441\u043f\u0430\u0441\u0438<\/span>\u0431\u043e\u00bb<\/strong> placing the \u2018thank you’<\/em> both in plural as well as diminutive. You’ll see this written on the internet about half of the time; the other half Russians make use of the colloquial \u00ab\u043f\u0430\u0441\u0438<\/span>\u0431\u043e\u00bb<\/strong> instead] I especially like to visit the blogs and\/or websites of people who comment here. (If you don’t want to risk me liking your blog enough to bookmark it, then don’t leave a trace behind!)<\/em> A few days ago my last post<\/a> received an excellent comment by a certain Homo Post-Soveticus, telling me that this blog had been added to the blog roll at RusIn \/ \u0420\u0443\u0441\u0418\u043d<\/a>. Of course \u00ab\u044f \u043d\u0435 \u043c\u043e\u0433\u043b\u0430<\/span> \u043d\u0435 \u0432\u0437\u0433\u043b\u044f\u043d\u0443<\/span>\u0442\u044c\u00bb<\/strong> [I couldn’t not (pfv.)<\/em> take a look at, glance, take a gander, take a slant, take a peep at] it. And as I read the latest post<\/a> on it, I stumbled onto a tremendous website containing no less than 80 Russian Tongue Twisters<\/a>!<\/p>\n

The Russian word for tongue twister is \u00ab\u0441\u043a\u043e\u0440\u043e\u0433\u043e\u0432\u043e<\/span>\u0440\u043a\u0430\u00bb<\/strong> [patter, chatter; tongue twister. The plural form is <\/em>\u00ab\u0441\u043a\u043e\u0440\u043e\u0433\u043e\u0432\u043e<\/span>\u0440\u043a\u0438\u00bb<\/strong> in nominative case<\/em>]. This word is made from the adverb \u00ab\u0441\u043a\u043e<\/span>\u0440\u043e\u00bb<\/strong> [quickly] and the imperfect verb \u00ab\u0433\u043e\u0432\u043e\u0440\u0438<\/span>\u0442\u044c\u00bb <\/strong>[speak, talk; relate, tell; say, utter; refer; proclaim, declare] – translating literally as ‘to\u00a0speak quickly’<\/em>. All tongue twisters should be said with great speed, otherwise you won’t be twisting your tonue at all! It is interesting to compare the construction of this word with the word \u00ab\u043f\u043e\u0433\u043e\u0432\u043e<\/span>\u0440\u043a\u0430\u00bb <\/strong>[saying, proverb; adage; household term] – do note that the stress in both words fall on the last \u00ab\u043e\u00bb<\/strong> –\u00a0which is made from\u00a0the perfect verb \u00ab\u043f\u043e\u0433\u043e\u0432\u043e\u0440\u0438<\/span>\u0442\u044c\u00bb <\/strong>[have a talk, or \u2018talk for a shorter amount of time’<\/em>]. When I was still studying only \u00ab\u0440\u0443<\/span>\u0441\u0441\u043a\u0438\u0439 \u044f\u0437\u044b<\/span>\u043a \u043a\u0430\u043a \u0438\u043d\u043e\u0441\u0442\u0440\u0430<\/span>\u043d\u043d\u044b\u0439\u00bb <\/strong>[Russian as a foreign language] back when I lived \u00ab\u0432 \u0421\u0438\u0431\u0438<\/span>\u0440\u0438\u00bb<\/strong> [in Siberia] I used to hate it whenever the teacher told us to memorize one \u00ab\u0441\u043a\u043e\u0440\u043e\u0433\u043e\u0432\u043e<\/span>\u0440\u043a\u0430\u00bb<\/strong> for our homework. Especially difficult for me were tongue twisters containing the vowel \u00ab\u044b\u00bb<\/strong>, or the super soft consonant \u00ab\u0449\u00bb<\/strong>. Those sounds are so difficult on their own, not to mention plenty of them inside one tiny little sentence… This website also has tongue twisters in other languages.<\/a> It gives not only a transliteration of each and everyone of them in Russian, but also a rough translation in English. It does not, however, mark the stress on top or underneath the Russian words – something that’s crucial for you to know if your goal is to really twist your tongue Russian style! This kind of proper practice is perfect for polishing your pronunciation! Or you could be imaginative and try to make your own \u00ab\u0441\u043a\u043e\u0440\u043e\u0433\u043e\u0432\u043e<\/span>\u0440\u043a\u0430\u00bb<\/strong> from your favorite (or simply the words you find tricky) <\/em>Russian words and repeat that sentence over and over again until you sound like you were born \u00ab\u0432 \u0421\u0430\u043c\u0430<\/span>\u0440\u0435\u00bb<\/strong> [in Samara] or something.
