This blog has some of the best readers out there and thus duly receive plenty of excellent comments from you guys. <strong>\u00ab\u0421\u043f\u0430\u0441<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0438<\/span>\u0431\u043e\u0447\u043a\u0438!\u00bb<\/strong> [<em>\u2018(tiny) thanks!&#8217; <\/em>a slang version of <strong>\u00ab\u0441\u043f\u0430\u0441<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0438<\/span>\u0431\u043e\u00bb<\/strong> placing the <em>\u2018thank you&#8217;<\/em> both in plural as well as diminutive. You&#8217;ll see this written on the internet about half of the time; the other half Russians make use of the colloquial <strong>\u00ab\u043f\u0430\u0441<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0438<\/span>\u0431\u043e\u00bb<\/strong> instead] I especially like to visit the blogs and\/or websites of people who comment here. <em>(If you don&#8217;t want to risk me liking your blog enough to bookmark it, then don&#8217;t leave a trace behind!)<\/em> A few days ago <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/russian\/%c2%ab%d0%93%d0%be%d1%82%d0%be%d0%b2%d0%b8%d0%bc-%d0%be%d0%bb%d0%b8%d0%b2%d1%8c%d0%b5%c2%bb-making-olive-aka-the-russian-salad\/#comments\" target=\"_blank\">my last post<\/a> received an excellent comment by a certain Homo Post-Soveticus, telling me that this blog had been added to the blog roll at <a href=\"http:\/\/marchiaru.wordpress.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">RusIn \/ \u0420\u0443\u0441\u0418\u043d<\/a>. Of course <strong>\u00ab\u044f \u043d\u0435 \u043c\u043e\u0433\u043b<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0430<\/span> \u043d\u0435 \u0432\u0437\u0433\u043b\u044f\u043d<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0443<\/span>\u0442\u044c\u00bb<\/strong> [I couldn&#8217;t not <em>(pfv.)<\/em> take a look at, glance, take a gander, take a slant, take a peep at] it. And as I read <a href=\"http:\/\/marchiaru.wordpress.com\/2010\/01\/03\/russian-tongue-twisters\/\" target=\"_blank\">the latest post<\/a> on it, I stumbled onto <a href=\"http:\/\/www.uebersetzung.at\/twister\/ru.htm#O76\" target=\"_blank\">a tremendous website containing no less than 80 Russian Tongue Twisters<\/a>!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The Russian word for tongue twister is <strong>\u00ab\u0441\u043a\u043e\u0440\u043e\u0433\u043e\u0432<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u043e<\/span>\u0440\u043a\u0430\u00bb<\/strong> [patter, chatter; tongue twister. <em>The plural form is <\/em><strong>\u00ab\u0441\u043a\u043e\u0440\u043e\u0433\u043e\u0432<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u043e<\/span>\u0440\u043a\u0438\u00bb<\/strong> <em>in nominative case<\/em>]. This word is made from the adverb <strong>\u00ab\u0441\u043a<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u043e<\/span>\u0440\u043e\u00bb<\/strong> [quickly] and the imperfect verb <strong>\u00ab\u0433\u043e\u0432\u043e\u0440<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0438<\/span>\u0442\u044c\u00bb <\/strong>[speak, talk; relate, tell; say, utter; refer; proclaim, declare] &#8211; translating literally as <em>&#8216;to\u00a0speak quickly&#8217;<\/em>. All tongue twisters should be said with great speed, otherwise you won&#8217;t be twisting your tonue at all! It is interesting to compare the construction of this word with the word <strong>\u00ab\u043f\u043e\u0433\u043e\u0432<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u043e<\/span>\u0440\u043a\u0430\u00bb <\/strong>[saying, proverb; adage; household term] &#8211; do note that the stress in both words fall on the last <strong>\u00ab\u043e\u00bb<\/strong> &#8211;\u00a0which is made from\u00a0the perfect verb <strong>\u00ab\u043f\u043e\u0433\u043e\u0432\u043e\u0440<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0438<\/span>\u0442\u044c\u00bb <\/strong>[have a talk, or <em>\u2018talk for a shorter amount of time&#8217;<\/em>]. Especially difficult for me were tongue twisters containing the vowel <strong>\u00ab\u044b\u00bb<\/strong>, or the super soft consonant <strong>\u00ab\u0449\u00bb<\/strong>. Those sounds are so difficult on their own, not to mention plenty of them inside one tiny little sentence&#8230; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.uebersetzung.at\/twister\/index.htm\" target=\"_blank\">This website also has tongue twisters in other languages.<\/a> It gives not only a transliteration of each and everyone of them in Russian, but also a rough translation in English. It does not, however, mark the stress on top or underneath the Russian words &#8211; something that&#8217;s crucial for you to know if your goal is to really twist your tongue Russian style!
