Even though there was much talk in 2009 about finally abolishing those ten days that every Russian gets off in the beginning of every year <strong>\u00ab\u0438\u0437-\u0437\u0430 \u044d\u043a\u043e\u043d\u043e\u043c<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0438<\/span>\u0447\u0435\u0441\u043a\u043e\u0433\u043e \u043a\u0440<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0438<\/span>\u0437\u0438\u0441\u0430\u00bb<\/strong> [due to the economic crisis], nothing has yet changed. This means that the traditional treat to the Russian people <em>(<a href=\"http:\/\/www.e1.ru\/news\/spool\/news_id-315783-section_id-11.html\" target=\"_blank\">but not necessarily such a delight for the Russian economy)<\/a> <\/em>remains and is still known by most as <strong>\u00ab\u043f\u044c<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u044f<\/span>\u043d\u0430\u044f \u043d\u0435\u0434<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0435<\/span>\u043b\u044f\u00bb<\/strong> [\u2018the drunken week&#8217;]. At this time of the year in Russia it&#8217;s not business as usual but one big, long <strong>\u00ab<a href=\"http:\/\/ru.wiktionary.org\/wiki\/%D0%BE%D1%82%D0%B4%D1%8B%D1%85\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u043e<\/span>\u0442\u0434\u044b\u0445<\/a>\u00bb<\/strong> [<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wiktionary.org\/wiki\/%D0%BE%D1%82%D0%B4%D1%8B%D1%85\" target=\"_blank\">rest, repose, relaxation; recreation; refreshment; comfort<\/a>] for everyone. At least <strong>\u00ab\u0434\u043e \u043f\u043e\u043d\u0435\u0434<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0435<\/span>\u043b\u044c\u043d\u0438\u043a\u0430\u00bb<\/strong> [until Monday] anyway&#8230; But what to do with all this <strong>\u00ab\u0441\u0432\u043e\u0431<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u043e<\/span>\u0434\u043d\u043e\u0435 \u0432\u0440<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0435<\/span>\u043c\u044f\u00bb<\/strong> [free time]? many Russians find themselves wondering somewhere in between all the official holidays that\u00a0need to be\u00a0properly celebrated with family and friends during these days. Obviously the 1<sup>st<\/sup> of January is largely taken up by tending to one&#8217;s <strong>\u00ab\u043f\u043e\u0445\u043c<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0435<\/span>\u043b\u044c\u0435\u00bb<\/strong> [hangover], and just as obvious is it for <strong>\u00ab\u0440<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0443<\/span>\u0441\u0441\u043a\u0438\u0435 \u043f\u0440\u0430\u0432\u043e\u0441\u043b<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0430<\/span>\u0432\u043d\u044b\u0435 \u0445\u0440\u0438\u0441\u0442\u0438<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0430<\/span>\u043d\u0435\u00bb<\/strong> [Russian Orthodox Christians] that the 7<sup>th<\/sup> of January will be devoted to celebrating <strong>\u00ab\u0420\u043e\u0436\u0434\u0435\u0441\u0442\u0432<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u043e<\/span> \u0425\u0440\u0438\u0441\u0442<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u043e<\/span>\u0432\u043e\u00bb <\/strong>[Christmas]. That&#8217;s <strong>\u00ab\u0434\u0432\u0430 \u0434\u043d\u044f\u00bb<\/strong> [two days]. Let&#8217;s say you&#8217;ll also need one day to prepare for Orthodox Christmas. But this still means that you only keep yourself busy for <strong>\u00ab\u0442\u0440\u0438 \u0434\u043d\u044f\u00bb<\/strong> [three days] out of ten&#8230; <strong>\u00ab\u0427\u0442\u043e \u0434<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0435<\/span>\u043b\u0430\u0442\u044c?\u00bb<\/strong> [What to do?] Well, how about simply using this time to <strong>\u00ab<a href=\"http:\/\/ru.wiktionary.org\/wiki\/%D0%BE%D1%82%D0%B4%D1%8B%D1%85%D0%B0%D1%82%D1%8C\" target=\"_blank\">\u043e\u0442\u0434\u044b\u0445<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0430<\/span>\u0442\u044c<\/a>\u00bb<\/strong> [<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wiktionary.org\/wiki\/%D0%BE%D1%82%D0%B4%D1%8B%D1%85%D0%B0%D1%82%D1%8C\" target=\"_blank\">repose, rest, relax; <em>(be on)<\/em> holiday, vacation<\/a>]? This kind of \u2018rest&#8217; is easy to recreate in the privacy of your own home because all you need is to <strong>\u00ab\u0441\u043e\u0431\u0440<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0430<\/span>\u0442\u044c \u0434\u0440\u0443\u0437<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0435<\/span>\u0439\u00bb <\/strong>[gather together friends] and <strong>\u00ab\u043d\u0430\u043a\u0440<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u044b<\/span>\u0442\u044c \u0441\u0442\u043e\u043b\u00bb<\/strong> [set the table]. Then everything is ready for you to <strong>\u00ab\u043f\u0440\u043e\u0432\u043e\u0434<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0438<\/span>\u0442\u044c \u0432\u0440<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0435<\/span>\u043c\u044f \u0432 \u0432\u0435\u0441<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0451<\/span>\u043b\u043e\u0439 \u043a\u043e\u043c\u043f<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0430<\/span>\u043d\u0438\u0438\u00bb<\/strong> [spend time in a cheerful company] and &#8211; hopefully &#8211; <strong>\u00ab\u043f\u043e\u0433\u043e\u0432\u043e\u0440<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0438<\/span>\u0442\u044c \u043f\u043e \u0434\u0443\u0448<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0430<\/span>\u043c\u00bb<\/strong> [have a genuine and sincere talk] with someone&#8230; Because everybody knows nothing helps you relax as much as interacting with other people!<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">In Russian language <em>(almost)<\/em> each and every verb has both an imperfect <em>&#8216;version&#8217;<\/em> and a perfect <em>\u2018version&#8217;<\/em>. In Russian this is not known as <em>&#8216;version&#8217;<\/em> at all, but properly named <strong>\u00ab<a href=\"http:\/\/ru.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/%D0%92%D0%B8%D0%B4_(%D0%BB%D0%B8%D0%BD%D0%B3%D0%B2%D0%B8%D1%81%D1%82%D0%B8%D0%BA%D0%B0)\" target=\"_blank\">\u0432\u0438\u0434<\/a>\u00bb<\/strong> [<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Grammatical_aspect\" target=\"_blank\">aspect<\/a>]. All Russian verbs <em>(almost)<\/em> have both <strong>\u00ab\u043d\u0435\u0441\u043e\u0432\u0435\u0440\u0448<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0435<\/span>\u043d\u043d\u044b\u0439 \u0432\u0438\u0434\u00bb<\/strong> [imperfect aspect] and <strong>\u00ab\u0441\u043e\u0432\u0435\u0440\u0448<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0435<\/span>\u043d\u043d\u044b\u0439 \u0432\u0438\u0434\u00bb <\/strong>[perfect aspect]. The verb we&#8217;re talking about today is <strong>\u00ab\u043e\u0442\u0434\u044b\u0445<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0430<\/span>\u0442\u044c\u00bb <\/strong>in imperfect aspect and <strong>\u00ab\u043e\u0442\u0434\u043e\u0445\u043d<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0443<\/span>\u0442\u044c\u00bb<\/strong> in perfect aspect. And the most correct way to <strong>\u00ab\u043e\u0442\u0434\u044b\u0445<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0430<\/span>\u0442\u044c\u00bb<\/strong> [repose, rest, relax] should eventually lead to a need to use the perfect <strong>\u00ab\u043e\u0442\u0434\u043e\u0445\u043d<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0443<\/span>\u0442\u044c\u00bb <\/strong>instead, since if not, then no real <strong>\u00ab\u0440\u0435\u0437\u0443\u043b\u044c\u0442<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0430<\/span>\u0442\u00bb<\/strong> [result, effect, outcome, consequence] has been reached. Generally speaking, the perfect aspect is always about results, whereas imperfect focuses more on <strong>\u00ab\u043f\u0440\u043e\u0446<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0435<\/span>\u0441\u0441\u00bb<\/strong> [process; operation; cause; act]. You can say something like <strong>\u00ab\u044f \u043e\u0442\u0434\u044b\u0445<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0430<\/span>\u043b \u0443 \u0440\u043e\u0434<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0438<\/span>\u0442\u0435\u043b\u0435\u0439\u00bb<\/strong> [I rested with my parents (or: I spent my vacation at my parents&#8217; house)] first and then explain further by commenting <strong>\u00ab<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0438<\/span>\u0437-\u0437\u0430 \u043c\u043e<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0435<\/span>\u0439 \u043c<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0430<\/span>\u043c\u044b \u044f \u043d\u0435 \u043c\u043e\u0433 \u043e\u0442\u0434\u043e\u0445\u043d<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0443<\/span>\u0442\u044c\u00bb<\/strong> [because of my mother I couldn&#8217;t unwind (completely)]. If you go somewhere on holiday every year, then the verb you&#8217;ll want to use to express this is imperfect: <strong>\u00ab\u041a<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0430<\/span>\u0436\u0434\u044b\u043c \u043b<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0435<\/span>\u0442\u043e\u043c \u043c\u044b \u043e\u0442\u0434\u044b\u0445<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0430<\/span>\u0435\u043c \u0432 \u0421<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u043e<\/span>\u0447\u0438\u00bb<\/strong> [Every summer we spend the holiday in Sochi]. But if you&#8217;re really tired and stressed and feel like you just need to take a day to yourself then you&#8217;ll want to make use of the perfect aspect instead: <strong>\u00ab\u041c\u043d\u0435 \u043d<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0430<\/span>\u0434\u043e \u043e\u0442\u0434\u043e\u0445\u043d<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0443<\/span>\u0442\u044c!\u00bb<\/strong> [I need to rest, repose; unwind, relax!]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">A third way &#8211; and very funny way &#8211; to use all of this <strong>\u00ab<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u043e<\/span>\u0442\u0434\u044b\u0445\u00bb<\/strong> is to watch something good, be it a movie or a show, in the movies, on TV or on youtube. Why not have a look at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.siberianlight.net\/putin-and-medvedev-sing-and-dance-into-2010\/\" target=\"_self\">animated <strong>\u00ab\u041c\u0435\u0434\u0432<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0435<\/span>\u0434\u0435\u0432 \u0438 \u041f<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0443<\/span>\u0442\u0438\u043d\u00bb <\/strong>[Medvedev and Putin] sing and dance into 2010<\/a>?
