A guy would ask me where I was from always remarking that he was curious because of my \u201clovely accent\u201d. When I would reply that I was from Russia, he would say: \u201cWow, this is cool! I\u2019m trying to learn Russian. But it\u2019s such a tough language. Would you consider helping me with pronunciation?\u201d And we\u2019d usually agree to meet at a local bookstore or coffee shop for a language lesson.<\/p>\n<p>Back then I was always surprised at this popularity of Russian language. I was also surprised when, by the second or third study session, they would stop bringing up Tolstoy, Chekhov and \u201cClockwork Orange\u201d and instead insist on going to whatever blockbuster was playing in the nearby movie theater. <strong>\u041a\u0430\u043a<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0430<\/span>\u044f \u043d\u0430<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0438<\/span>\u0432\u043d\u043e\u0441\u0442\u044c!<\/strong> (What a naivette!)<\/p>\n<p>This is a long way of saying that in today\u2019s post, I want to share with you 10 Russian words and phrases that are, in my opinion, a must-learn for all those dating Russian girls and guys. Just<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"> don\u2019t take this list too seriously<\/span> and expect that once you memorize it, you will be automatically invited for a nightcap.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>1. Diminutive of his\/her name<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The first thing you memorize is, hopefully, your date\u2019s name. Now take it a step further and figure out its diminutive form. Russians are big, no, HUGE, on using all sorts of <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/russian\/love-me-russian-or-a-little-something-about-the-diminutive-part-i-introduction\/\">diminutives<\/a> for people, animals, and inanimate objects.<\/p>\n<p>Some time ago we had a post about most popular Russian names. So here\u2019s a table of diminutive forms of these names. If you are not so lucky to be dating someone whose name is in this table, you\u2019ll have to look it up on your own. Let\u2019s<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u0414\u0430\u0432<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0430<\/span>\u0439<\/strong> in its meaning \u201clet\u2019s\u201d is a good word to know. So perhaps you can\u2019t yet say the entire phrase \u201cLet\u2019s go to the movies tomorrow\u201d in Russian. It\u2019s not how perfectly you say it, but how cute it sounds.<\/p>\n<p><strong>8.
