They tend to be more subtle so that most people in the region may not realize the word is a regionalism. Of course, there are the cases everyone talks about, like <a href=\"https:\/\/ru.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/%D0%A0%D0%B0%D0%B7%D0%BB%D0%B8%D1%87%D0%B8%D1%8F_%D0%B2_%D1%80%D0%B5%D1%87%D0%B8_%D0%BC%D0%BE%D1%81%D0%BA%D0%B2%D0%B8%D1%87%D0%B5%D0%B9_%D0%B8_%D0%BF%D0%B5%D1%82%D0%B5%D1%80%D0%B1%D1%83%D1%80%D0%B6%D1%86%D0%B5%D0%B2\">Moscow vs St. Petersburg<\/a> (\u0431\u043e\u0440\u0434\u044e&#x301;\u0440 vs \u043f\u043e\u0440\u0435&#x301;\u0431\u0440\u0438\u043a, respectively, for a\u00a0curbstone, \u043f\u043e\u0434\u044a\u0435\u0437\u0434 vs \u043f\u0430\u0440\u0430\u0434\u043d\u0430\u044f for the lobby\/landing in an apartment building). However, other Russian cities do not get as much coverage. That&#8217;s why I was so excited to stumble across the <a href=\"http:\/\/community.lingvo.ru\/goroda\/dictionary.asp\">&#8220;Languages of Russian Cities&#8221; dictionary<\/a> (\u042f\u0437\u044b\u043a\u0438 \u0440\u0443\u0441\u0441\u043a\u0438\u0445 \u0433\u043e\u0440\u043e\u0434\u043e\u0432) by ABBYY.<\/p>\n<p>Taking advantage of my privileged position as the post author, I would like to share a few words I recognized on that list from\u00a0living in Chelyabinsk and Moscow and hearing from my relatives raised in Northern Caucasus and in Moldova. I did not even realize some of them were not universally understood! The examples come from the same dictionary by ABBYY.
