A little while back, we talked about famous crooners<\/a> from Russia and the former USSR. There are also plenty of female singers who left their mark on the popular music of the Soviet period. I will share five as a teaser, but there are, naturally, many, many others. I hope this post inspires you to do some exploring on your own!<\/p>\n

1. Lyudmila Zykina (\u041b\u044e\u0434\u043c\u0438\u0301\u043b\u0430 \u0417\u044b\u0301\u043a\u0438\u043d\u0430)<\/h3>\n

Lyudmila Zykina was born in Moscow in 1929. After a series of industrial jobs and a stint in the medical field, she launched her singing career thanks to being one of the four contestants chosen to join the Pyatnitsky Russian Folk Choir. Zykina is known for the folk sound of her songs. She won multiple awards both in the USSR and Russia. Her famous tracks include\u00a0\u00ab\u0422\u0435\u0447\u0435\u0301\u0442 \u0440\u0435\u043a\u0430\u0301 \u0412\u043e\u0301\u043b\u0433\u0430\u00bb (“The River Volga Flows”), \u00ab\u0421\u0442\u0435\u043f\u044c, \u0434\u0430 \u0441\u0442\u0435\u043f\u044c \u043a\u0440\u0443\u0433\u043e\u0301\u043c\u00bb (“Steppe All Around”), \u00ab\u041e\u043f\u0443\u0441\u0442\u0435\u0301\u043b\u0430 \u0431\u0435\u0437 \u0442\u0435\u0431\u044f\u0301 \u0437\u0435\u043c\u043b\u044f\u0301\u00bb (“The Earth Grew Empty Without You”), and \u00ab\u041e\u0440\u0435\u043d\u0431\u0443\u0301\u0440\u0433\u0441\u043a\u0438\u0439 \u043f\u0443\u0445\u043e\u0301\u0432\u044b\u0439 \u043f\u043b\u0430\u0442\u043e\u0301\u043a\u00bb (“Orenburg Down Kerchief”).<\/p>\n
