These small words are ubiquitous, especially in argumentative writing like news articles, and they link the ideas in a text to help the reader follow the writer&#8217;s logic.<\/p>\n<p>In most cases, introductory words (\u0432\u0432\u043e\u0301\u0434\u043d\u044b\u0435 \u0441\u043b\u043e\u0432\u0430\u0301) will be set off by commas. Consult an authoritative reference like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gramota.ru\/\">Gramota<\/a> to verify specific use cases.<\/p>\n<h2>1. \u041a\u043e\u043d\u0435\u0301\u0447\u043d\u043e<\/h2>\n<p>\u041a\u043e\u043d\u0435\u0301\u0447\u043d\u043e means &#8220;of course&#8221; and expresses certainty. It is pronounced \u043a\u043e\u043d\u0435\u0301<strong>\u0448<\/strong>\u043d\u043e.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u041a\u043e\u043d\u0435\u0301\u0447\u043d\u043e, \u0441\u043d\u0430\u0447\u0430\u0301\u043b\u0430 \u043c\u044b \u043f\u0440\u043e\u0432\u0435\u0434\u0435\u0301\u043c \u0438\u043d\u0441\u0442\u0440\u0443\u043a\u0442\u0430\u0301\u0436 \u043d\u043e\u0301\u0432\u044b\u0445 \u0441\u043e\u0442\u0440\u0443\u0301\u0434\u043d\u0438\u043a\u043e\u0432 (Of course, we will first give some instructions to the new employees).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&#8220;\u041a\u043e\u043d\u0435\u0447\u043d\u043e&#8221; in Russian is fairly neutral and does not sound condescending as an answer.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u0422\u044b \u0437\u043d\u0430\u0301\u0435\u0448\u044c \u043c\u043e\u044e\u0301 \u043c\u0430\u0301\u043c\u0443? (Do you know my mother?)<\/li>\n<li>\u041a\u043e\u043d\u0435\u0301\u0447\u043d\u043e! It makes the sentence tentative.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u041f\u0430\u0301\u0448\u0438 \u0432\u0441\u0435 \u0435\u0449\u0435\u0301 \u043d\u0435\u0442 \u0434\u043e\u0301\u043c\u0430. \u041c\u043e\u0301\u0436\u0435\u0442 \u0431\u044b\u0442\u044c, \u043e\u043d \u0437\u0430\u0434\u0435\u0440\u0436\u0430\u0301\u043b\u0441\u044f \u043d\u0430 \u0440\u0430\u0431\u043e\u0301\u0442\u0435. (Pasha [man&#8217;s name] still isn&#8217;t home. He might have stayed at work late.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You could also say simply &#8220;\u043c\u043e\u0436\u0435\u0301\u0442&#8221; in the same sense. Other similar words include \u0432\u043e\u0437\u043c\u043e\u0301\u0436\u043d\u043e (possibly) and \u0432\u0435\u0440\u043e\u044f\u0301\u0442\u043d\u043e (probably).<\/p>\n<h2>3. \u041f\u043e-\u043c\u043e\u0301\u0435\u043c\u0443<\/h2>\n<p>This very useful word means &#8220;in my opinion, it seems to me that.&#8221;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u042f \u0434\u043e\u0301\u043b\u0433\u043e \u043e\u0431\u044a\u044f\u0441\u043d\u044f\u0301\u043b\u0430 \u0441\u0432\u043e\u044e\u0301 \u0442\u0435\u043e\u0301\u0440\u0438\u044e, \u043d\u043e, \u043f\u043e-\u043c\u043e\u0301\u0435\u043c\u0443, \u043e\u043d\u0438 \u043d\u0438\u0447\u0435\u0433\u043e\u0301 \u043d\u0435 \u043f\u043e\u0301\u043d\u044f\u043b\u0438 (I explained my theory for a while, but I don&#8217;t think they understood anything).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Can we use it to talk about other people&#8217;s opinions? We certainly can\u00a0for \u0442\u044b and \u0432\u044b.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u041a\u0442\u043e, \u043f\u043e-\u0442\u0432\u043e\u0301\u0435\u043c\u0443, \u043f\u043e\u0431\u0435\u0434\u0438\u0301\u0442 \u043d\u0430 \u0415\u0432\u0440\u043e\u0432\u0438\u0301\u0434\u0435\u043d\u0438\u0438? (Who do you think will win the Eurovision Song Contest?)<\/li>\n<li>\u042f, \u043f\u043e-\u0432\u0430\u0301\u0448\u0435\u043c\u0443, \u0441\u043e\u0432\u0441\u0435\u0301\u043c \u043d\u0438\u0447\u0435\u0433\u043e\u0301 \u043d\u0435 \u0432\u0438\u0301\u0436\u0443? (Do you think I can&#8217;t see anything at all?)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In other cases, use &#8220;\u043f\u043e \u0435\u0435\/\u0435\u0433\u043e\/\u043d\u0430\u0301\u0448\u0435\u043c\u0443\/\u0438\u0445 \u043c\u043d\u0435\u0301\u043d\u0438\u044e&#8221; (in her\/his\/our\/their opinion).<\/p>\n<h2>4. \u0412\u043e\u043e\u0431\u0449\u0435\u0301<\/h2>\n<p>\u0412\u043e\u043e\u0431\u0449\u0435\u0301 conveys the sense of &#8220;generally.&#8221;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u0412\u043e\u043e\u0431\u0449\u0435\u0301, \u043c\u043d\u043e\u0301\u0433\u0438\u0435 \u043c\u043e\u043b\u043e\u0434\u044b\u0301\u0435 \u043b\u044e\u0301\u0434\u0438 \u043f\u043e-\u043f\u0440\u0435\u0301\u0436\u043d\u0435\u043c\u0443 \u0436\u0438\u0432\u0443\u0301\u0442 \u0441 \u0440\u043e\u0434\u0438\u0301\u0442\u0435\u043b\u044f\u043c\u0438 (Generally speaking, many young people still live with their parents).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Another variation is \u0432\u043e\u043e\u0431\u0449\u0435\u0301-\u0442\u043e.<\/p>\n<h2>5. \u041a\u0441\u0442\u0430\u0301\u0442\u0438<\/h2>\n<p>\u041a\u0441\u0442\u0430\u0301\u0442\u0438 is used to introduce a comment or a related idea, much like &#8220;by the way.&#8221;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u041c\u043e\u0435\u0301\u0439 \u043a\u043e\u0301\u0448\u043a\u0435 \u0442\u0440\u0438 \u0433\u043e\u0301\u0434\u0430. \u041a\u0441\u0442\u0430\u0301\u0442\u0438, \u0442\u044b \u0435\u0435 \u043d\u0435 \u0432\u0438\u0301\u0434\u0435\u043b? (My cat is three years old. By the way, have you seen her?)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A synonym is \u043c\u0435\u0436\u0434\u0443 \u043f\u0440\u043e\u0301\u0447\u0438\u043c.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u041c\u0435\u0436\u0434\u0443 \u043f\u0440\u043e\u0301\u0447\u0438\u043c, \u044d\u0301\u0442\u043e\u0439 \u043f\u0438\u0430\u043d\u0438\u0301\u0441\u0442\u043a\u0435 \u0432\u0441\u0435\u0433\u043e\u0301 12 \u043b\u0435\u0442 (By the way, this pianist is only 12 years old).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We will continue this list in our <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/russian\/ten-must-know-introductory-phrases-in-russian-part-ii\/\">next post<\/a>.
