One of his most famous works is his humorous novel\u00a0<i>Sandro of Chegem\u00a0<\/i>(\u00ab\u0421\u0430\u043d\u0434\u0440<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u043e<\/span> \u0438\u0437 \u0427\u0435\u0433<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0435<\/span>\u043c\u0430\u00bb) about life in a small village in Abkhazia. The novel was written in 1966 but was not published in full in Russia until 1989.<\/p>\n<p>Iskander died of heart failure on 31 July 2016. He ended up falling out of favor with the Belarussian government and started working in Russia, first for state media and then for independent publications. A few years before his death he left Russian outlets because of his criticism of the Russian involvement in Ukraine and moved to Ukraine outlets.<\/p>\n<p>Sheremet was killed in a car bomb attack in Kiev on\u00a020 July 2016.
