If you need a reminder, this is how the -ing form looks like in Spanish regular verbs:<\/p>\n<p>Cant<strong>ar<\/strong> &#8211;&gt; Cant<strong>ando<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Com<strong>er<\/strong> &#8211;&gt; Com<strong>iendo<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Viv<strong>ir <\/strong> &#8211;&gt; Viv<strong>iendo<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Therefore, some examples of the presente progressive tense would be:<\/p>\n<p><strong>(yo) estoy<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>(t\u00fa) est\u00e1s<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>(\u00e9l\/ella\/usted) est\u00e1\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0  cantando<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;      <strong>+\u00a0comiendo <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>(nosotros) estamos\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 viviendo<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>(vosotros) est\u00e1is<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>(ellos\/ustedes) est\u00e1n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s look at some examples:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Los ni<\/strong><strong>\u00f1os est\u00e1n jugando en el jard\u00edn.<\/strong> (The children are playing in the garden.)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mi equipo est\u00e1 perdiendo el partido. <\/strong>(My team is losing the game.)<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00bfEst\u00e1 escribiendo una nueva novela? <\/strong>(Are you writing a new novel?)<\/p>\n<p>Now, there are other progressive constructions that are used very frequently in informal speech, and are quite interesting:<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">IR <\/span><\/strong><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">+ (-ing form)<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Ir haciendo algo <\/strong>implies that the person is repeating the same behaviour at different times, and in different places. For example:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tu vecina va diciendo que no sabes cocinar.<\/strong> (Your neighbour goes around saying that you can&#8217;t cook.)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cuando se emborracha va cantando por las calles.<\/strong> (When he gets drunk he walks around the streets singing.)<\/p>\n<p>It can also be used to refer to something that is about to happen:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ya va llegando la primavera.<\/strong> (Spring is about to come.)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Va terminando la funci<\/strong><strong>\u00f3n. <\/strong>(The show is about to end.)<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">ANDAR + (-ing form)<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"> <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Andar haciendo algo <\/strong>has the same meaning as the present continuous form, in a more colloquial way, and also a similar meaning as <strong>Ir haciendo algo<\/strong>, in its first sense:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Miguel anda limpiando el polvo ahora. <\/strong>(Miguel is dusting right now.)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tu vecina anda diciendo que no sabes cocinar. <\/strong>(Your neighbour goes around saying that you can&#8217;t cook.)<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">VENIR + (-ing form)<\/span><\/strong><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Venir haciendo algo <\/strong>describes the action performed by the subject as it approaches in time or space. For example:<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a1El perro viene corriendo! <\/strong>(The dog is running towards us!)<\/p>\n<p><strong>La noche viene lloviendo. <\/strong>(Tonight is going to bring rain.)<\/p>\n<p>I hope this was useful.
