In this Spanish lesson we will practice using the Spanish Past Simple grammar tense: El Pret\u00e9rito Imperfecto. As usual, first we will review some relevant grammar and vocabulary and then see if you can follow a short listening. <\/p>\n

Let’s test your listening comprehension and see if you can understand a short audio in Spanish. The transcript to the audio will be given at the end of the post but please try not to look at it until you have tried playing and understanding the audio a few times. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Cacahuetes: peanuts
\nAlimentos: food
\nTal vez: Maybe
\nEn vez de: Instead of
\nDe peque\u00f1o: As a child
\nPor lo menos: at least<\/p>\n

Now play the audio to listen a conversation between two friends. Can you understand what they are saying? Play the audio a few times before you look at the transcript. Don’t worry if you don’t understand every single thing the two people are saying. Try to catch whichever words you can and then try to piece things together to work out what is being said.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Elisa: Hola Peter. \u00bfQuieres algo para comer?
\nPeter: Bueno vale. \u00bfQu\u00e9 tienes?
\nElisa: Unos cacahuetes.
\nPeter: Oh no. No como cacahuetes.
\nElisa: \u00bfTienes alergia?
\nPeter: Ahora no, pero cuando era peque\u00f1o ten\u00eda alergia a los cacahuetes.
\nElisa: Yo cuando era peque\u00f1a com\u00eda muchos alimentos con gluten (pan, espaguetis, pizza\u2026) y luego me dol\u00eda mucho la tripa.
\nPeter: \u00bfTal vez ten\u00edas alergia al gluten?
\nElisa: S\u00ed, m\u00e1s o menos. Ten\u00eda intolerancia al gluten. Y todav\u00eda la tengo.
\nPeter: Oh, \u00bfY qu\u00e9 comes en vez de pan?
\nElisa: Pues hace unos a\u00f1os com\u00eda pan sin gluten y pasta sin gluten, pero ya no. No me gustan nada. Prefiero comer arroz y quinoa.
\nPeter: Mmm.. Me encanta el arroz. El risotto es mi plato favorito. De peque\u00f1o no me gustaba, pero ahora me gusta much\u00edsimo.
