In this Spanish lesson we will practice expressing hopes and wishes with El Presente de Subjuntivo, the Spanish Present Subjunctive grammar tense. As usual, first we will review some relevant grammar and vocabulary and then see if you can follow a short listening. <\/p>\n

Let’s test your listening comprehension and see if you can understand a short audio in Spanish. The transcript to the audio will be given at the end of the post but please try not to look at it until you have tried playing and understanding the audio a few times. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Now play the audio to listen a conversation between two friends. Can you understand what they are saying? Play the audio a few times before you look at the transcript. Don’t worry if you don’t understand every single thing the two people are saying. Try to catch whichever words you can and then try to piece things together to work out what is being said.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Charlie: Sof\u00eda, \u00bfQu\u00e9 te pasa? Pareces preocupada. Espero que est\u00e9s bien.
\nSof\u00eda: S\u00ed, estoy un poco preocupada. Mi madre est\u00e1 en el hospital. Se ha roto la cadera y la han operado. Los m\u00e9dicos quieren que se quede all\u00ed dos semanas, para recuperarse bien, pero yo quiero que salga ya y que vuelva a casa. Creo que se recuperar\u00e1 m\u00e1s r\u00e1pido en casa.
\nCharlie:S\u00ed\u2026 Dos semanas m\u00e1s en el hospital es mucho tiempo. Ojal\u00e1 los m\u00e9dicos te escuchen y le den el alta pronto.
\nSof\u00eda: S\u00ed, espero que me escuchen. Mi madre est\u00e1 muy aburrida en el hospital. Quiere que le llevemos libros y revistas todos los d\u00edas. Est\u00e1 leyendo todo el d\u00eda, pero se est\u00e1 cansando de leer. Necesita salir del hospital.
\nCharlie: \u00bfPuede andar?
\nSof\u00eda: Los m\u00e9dicos no quieren que ande cuando ellos no est\u00e1n all\u00ed. Tiene que estar supervisada todo el tiempo. Hace unos ejercicios de recuperaci\u00f3n todos los d\u00edas pero ella espera que los m\u00e9dicos le dejen andar sola pronto. El problema es que no come nada porque no le gusta la comida del hospital. As\u00ed que tiene poca energ\u00eda para andar y se cansa muy r\u00e1pido.
\nCharlie: Oh claro, normal.
\nSof\u00eda: S\u00ed, yo quiero que coma pero ella no me escucha. Hoy va a visitarla mi t\u00eda Silvia. Es su hermana. Ella le va a decir que tiene que comer. Espero que le escuche a ella m\u00e1s que a m\u00ed.
\nCharlie: S\u00ed ojal\u00e1 le escuche y coma.
\nSof\u00eda: S\u00ed, gracias Charlie.
\nCharlie: Espero que todo vaya bien y que tu madre salga pronto del hospital.
\nSof\u00eda: Muchas gracias de verdad. Que pases un buen d\u00eda.
