How about you? I&#8217;ve always enjoyed summer, probably because I grew up in Michigan where winter is long and brutally cold! <strong>Ahora vivo en Puerto Vallarta y hace mucho calor en el verano<\/strong> (Now I live in Puerto Vallarta and it&#8217;s very hot in the summer). It can definitely get pretty sweaty here in the summer. \u00a1<strong>No hay problema, porque me encanta el verano<\/strong>! (No problem, because I love summer)! In this post we&#8217;ll learn some Spanish vocabulary about summer so you can chat about the season en espa\u00f1ol.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center\">Clima de verano<\/h2>\n<p>Not all Spanish-speaking countries are experiencing summer at the moment. <strong>Por ejemplo, el verano en Chile es de diciembre a febrero<\/strong> (For example, summer in Chile is from December to February). That means it&#8217;s actually the start of <strong>el invierno<\/strong> (winter) there and in other countries like Argentina and Uruguay.<\/p>\n<p>For much of the Spanish-speaking world, though, <strong>el verano es de junio a septiembre<\/strong> (summer is from June to September). In Spanish, you say &#8220;<strong>Tengo calor<\/strong>&#8221; to mean &#8220;I&#8217;m hot.&#8221; A <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/spanish\/hilarious-spanish-mistakes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">funny Spanish mistake<\/a> that a lot of people make is saying &#8220;<strong>Estoy caliente<\/strong>&#8221; instead, which actually means &#8220;I&#8217;m horny!&#8221;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_11064\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter post-item__attachment\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/spanish\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2018\/01\/DSC09427.jpg\" aria-label=\"DSC09427\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-11064\" class=\"size-full wp-image-11064\"  alt=\"\u00bfQu\u00e9 puedes hacer en Puerto Vallarta?\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/ src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/spanish\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2018\/01\/DSC09427.jpg\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/spanish\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2018\/01\/DSC09427.jpg 600w, https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/spanish\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2018\/01\/DSC09427-350x233.jpg 350w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-11064\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Vamos a la playa!<\/p><\/div>\n<p>At least where I live, I see a lot of <strong>el sol<\/strong> (the sun) in summer. \u00a1<strong>Es importante usar el bloqueador solar aqu\u00ed<\/strong>! (It&#8217;s important to use sunblock here!). The last thing you want on a hot day is <strong>la quemadura del sol<\/strong> (sunburn).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tambi\u00e9n es la temporada de lluvias ahora<\/strong> (It&#8217;s also the rainy season now). In addition to sunscreen, I need to have <strong>un paraguas<\/strong> (an umbrella) as well. One minute it&#8217;s sunny, and the next it&#8217;s rainy. Sometimes it rains so much I can say &#8220;\u00a1<strong>Llueve a c\u00e1ntaros<\/strong>!&#8221; (It&#8217;s raining buckets!).<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s also very <strong>h\u00famedo<\/strong> (humid) in the summer. Unfortunately, my place doesn&#8217;t have <strong>aire acondicionado<\/strong> (air conditioning). I live up on the hill, though, and I get a nice breeze from <strong>el mar<\/strong> (the ocean). <strong>Solo necesito encender el ventilador y abrir las ventanas<\/strong> (I just need to turn on the fan and open the windows).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center\">Ropa de verano<\/h2>\n<p>What can you wear in these hot and humid summer months? Here&#8217;s a little vocabulary list of summer clothing in Spanish:<\/p>\n<p><div class=\"twocol-one\">el traje de ba\u00f1o\/el ba\u00f1ador<br \/>\nla camiseta\/la playera<br \/>\nla falda<br \/>\nlos pantalones cortos<br \/>\nlas gafas de sol<br \/>\nel sombrero<br \/>\nla gorra<br \/>\nlas sandalias<br \/>\nlas chanclas<\/div> <div class=\"twocol-one last\">bathing suit<br \/>\nt-shirt<br \/>\nskirt<br \/>\nshorts<br \/>\nsunglasses<br \/>\nhat<br \/>\ncap<br \/>\nsandals<br \/>\nflip flops<\/div><div class=\"clear\"><\/div><\/p>\n<p><strong>Durante el verano, uso una camiseta, los pantalones cortos y las sandalias<\/strong> (During the summer, I wear a t-shirt, shorts, and sandals). Actually, it&#8217;s so hot and sticky her that I usually just wear <strong>una camiseta sin mangas<\/strong> (a tank top). I also never leave the house without <strong>mi gorra favorita y mis gafas de sol<\/strong> (my favorite cap and my sunglasses). How about you?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center\">Actividades de verano<\/h2>\n<p>\u00bf<strong>A d\u00f3nde te gusta ir en el verano<\/strong>? (Where do you like to go in the summer?). \u00a1<strong>Me gusta ir a la playa o la piscina<\/strong>! (I like to go to the beach or the pool!). Whether you go to the beach or the pool, you&#8217;ll want to take <strong>una toalla<\/strong> (a towel) and possibly <strong>una sombrilla<\/strong> (a big umbrella).<\/p>\n<p>Once in a while it&#8217;s also nice to go to <strong>un parque acuatico<\/strong> (a water park) to cool down a bit. <strong>Mi lugar favorito en el verano es un festival de m\u00fasica<\/strong> (My favorite place in the summer is a music festival). I actually met my wife at a music festival ten years ago and we still go to at least one every summer. How about you?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center\">La comida y las bebidas de verano<\/h2>\n<p>\u00bf<strong>Qu\u00e9 te gusta comer y beber en el verano<\/strong>? (What do you like to eat and drink in the summer?).
