That&#8217;s probably why you&#8217;re reading this blog! In this post I&#8217;m going to talk about <strong>los mejores lugares para aprender espa\u00f1ol en 2020<\/strong> (the best places to learn Spanish in 2020).<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center\">Antigua, Guatemala<\/h2>\n<p>\u00a1<strong>Antigua es un gran lugar para aprender espa\u00f1ol<\/strong>! (Antigua is a great place to learn Spanish!). Perhaps it&#8217;s because Spanish is a second language for so many people here as well, as there are 21 different Mayan languages spoken in Guatemala.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Antigua es una ciudad muy tranquila<\/strong> (Antigua is a very tranquil city). In your free time, you can relax in the lovely <strong>Parque Central<\/strong> (Central Park), take a walk up to <strong>Cerro de la Cruz<\/strong> (Hill of the Cross), or just do your Spanish homework in one of the many cafes here. \u00a1<strong>El caf\u00e9 de Guatemala es muy delicioso<\/strong>! The city hosts some of the biggest processions in the world and it&#8217;s an amazing cultural experience. It seems like there&#8217;s a Spanish school around every corner here. It&#8217;s a great base for exploring <strong>el Valle Sagrado de los Incas<\/strong> (the Sacred Valley of the Incas). Consider checking out other ruins like Pisac, Ollantaytambo, and Saqsaywaman before making that big bucket-list trip to Machu Picchu.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center\">Medell\u00edn, Colombia<\/h2>\n<p>These days, a very popular city to learn Spanish is Medell\u00edn, Colombia. This is a city with a dark past yet a very <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/spanish\/medellin-a-dark-past-and-a-bright-future\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">bright future<\/a>. It&#8217;s gone from being one of the most dangerous cities in the world to being one of the most innovative. After all, it&#8217;s known as <strong>la Ciudad de la Eterna Primavera<\/strong> (the City of Eternal Spring). It never gets too hot or too cold here, making it a pleasant city to stay for a while.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Estudi\u00e9 espa\u00f1ol en dos escuelas diferentes en Medell\u00edn<\/strong> (I studied Spanish in two different schools in Medellin). I feel like my Spanish improved a lot during my six weeks in the city. In fact, I enjoyed the experience so much that I&#8217;m going back very soon to spend another two months there and take more classes! Click here to read more about my experience <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/spanish\/studying-spanish-in-medellin\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">studying Spanish in Medell\u00edn<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center\">La Fortuna, Costa Rica<\/h2>\n<p>One of my favorite places I visited last year was La Fortuna. <strong>Es un pueblo peque\u00f1o en las monta\u00f1as de Costa Rica<\/strong> (It&#8217;s a small town in the mountains of Costa Rica). When we visited, there was a cowboy parade and a rodeo one night and a carnival going on all week. Read more about La Fortuna in <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/spanish\/viajando-en-costa-rica\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">this post<\/a>\u00a0about traveling in Costa Rica.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center\">Puerto Vallarta, Mexico<\/h2>\n<p>There are many excellent places to study Spanish in Mexico, including San Miguel de Allende and Oaxaca City. <strong>Mi recomendaci\u00f3n es estudiar espa\u00f1ol en Puerto Vallarta<\/strong> (My recommendation is to study Spanish in Puerto Vallarta). I&#8217;m definitely a bit biased, as this has been my home away from home for the better part of three years, but it really is an amazing destination.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_13184\" style=\"width: 710px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter post-item__attachment\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/spanish\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/01\/8-DJI_0760.jpg\" aria-label=\"8 DJI 0760\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-13184\" class=\"size-full wp-image-13184\"  alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" \/ src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/spanish\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/01\/8-DJI_0760.jpg\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/spanish\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/01\/8-DJI_0760.jpg 700w, https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/spanish\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/01\/8-DJI_0760-350x263.jpg 350w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-13184\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Puerto Vallarta es una ciudad hermosa!<\/p><\/div>\n<p>There are a few Spanish schools in town, but I went with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.spanishschoolvallarta.com\/index.html\">Spanish School Vallarta<\/a>. Maestro Melchor and his wife Martha are some of the nicest people you&#8217;ll ever meet and are both great Spanish teachers! They use the famous Warren Hardy method and have four different levels of classes, each lasting three weeks. If you&#8217;d like to learn more, read my detailed post about <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/spanish\/studying-spanish-in-puerto-vallarta\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">studying Spanish in Puerto Vallarta<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>When you&#8217;re not in Spanish class, <strong>puedes relajarte en la playa<\/strong> (you can relax on the beach). That&#8217;s not all, though. <strong>Hay muchas cosas divertidas que puedes hacer en Puerto Vallarta<\/strong> (There are many fun things you can do in Puerto Vallarta). Read <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gratefulgypsies.com\/things-to-do-in-puerto-vallarta\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">this post<\/a> for 31 of them!<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: center\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"15 of the Best Things to Do in Puerto Vallarta\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/8TrvgrNe_bQ?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center\">Ba\u00f1os, Ecuador<\/h2>\n<p>Next up on our list is the town of Ba\u00f1os in the Andean Highlands of Ecuador. <strong>La gente en Ecuador habla espa\u00f1ol clara y lentamente<\/strong> (People in Ecuador speak Spanish clearly and slowly). This makes it a popular choice for people to study Spanish.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Es un buen lugar para aventuras como el ciclismo de monta\u00f1a<\/strong> (It&#8217;s a good place for adventures such as mountain biking). You can rent a bike in town and ride it to several different <strong>cascadas<\/strong> (waterfalls).<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_13178\" style=\"width: 710px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter post-item__attachment\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/spanish\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/01\/2-GOPR1169.jpg\" aria-label=\"2 GOPR1169\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-13178\" class=\"size-full wp-image-13178\"  alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" \/ src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/spanish\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/01\/2-GOPR1169.jpg\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/spanish\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/01\/2-GOPR1169.jpg 700w, https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/spanish\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/01\/2-GOPR1169-350x263.jpg 350w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-13178\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A look at Ba\u00f1os.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>This scenic town in Ecuador is not named after the bathroom, but rather the hot springs that are located here. These make for the perfect place to relax after a busy day of learning Spanish and exploring. I really enjoyed our short stay in Ba\u00f1os and would love to go back there to take a Spanish class.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center\">Sucre, Bolivia<\/h2>\n<p>The final spot I&#8217;m recommending is Sucre. It&#8217;s known as <strong>la Ciudad Blanca<\/strong> (the White City) for its beautiful white stone buildings. That&#8217;s right &#8211; Bolivia has two capital cities. Sucre is the official capital, but the executive and legislative branches of government are in La Paz.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hay muchas escuelas de espa\u00f1ol en Sucre<\/strong> (There are many Spanish schools in Sucre). Classes are very affordable here, and the general low cost of living attracts many people to stay here for weeks or months to improve their Spanish.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>These are just seven of my personal recommendations from places I&#8217;ve traveled. There are lots of other great choices. I&#8217;m always looking for new ideas for places to travel to, especially places where I can effectively learn the language.
