In this Spanish lesson we are going to practice using various False Friends<\/em>. These are words in Spanish which have a very similar appearance or sound to an English word, but mean something completely different. As usual, first we will review some relevant grammar and vocabulary and then see if you can follow a short listening. <\/p>\n

This lesson is part of a Spanish course that practices the grammar and vocabulary first introduced in my Advanced Spanish course posted here on the Transparent Language blog. Let’s test your listening comprehension and see if you can understand a short audio in Spanish. The transcript to the audio will be given at the end of the post but please try not to look at it until you have tried playing and understanding the audio a few times. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Now play the audio to listen a conversation. Can you understand what is being said? Play the audio a few times before you look at the transcript. Don’t worry if you don’t understand every single thing the two people are saying. Try to catch whichever words you can and then try to piece things together to work out what is being said.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Sof\u00eda: Hola Andy \u00bfEst\u00e1s bien? Tienes mala cara.<\/p>\n

Andy: Ya, es que estoy constipado. Ayer asist\u00ed a una clase de canoa y me he resfriado.<\/p>\n

Sof\u00eda: \u00bfClase de canoa? Guau, suena emocionante. <\/p>\n

Andy: S\u00ed, me gust\u00f3 mucho pero hac\u00eda mucho fr\u00edo. \u00bfQuieres venir conmigo a otra clase la pr\u00f3xima semana? Puedes pagar solo por una clase sin compromiso.<\/p>\n

Sof\u00eda: Siento decepcionarte, pero no. Estoy embarazada, no creo que sea buena idea.<\/p>\n

Andy: \u00bfEst\u00e1s embarazada? \u00a1Felicidades! Y felicidades a tu marido tambi\u00e9n.<\/p>\n

Sof\u00eda: Gracias Andy. La verdad es que est\u00e1bamos desesperados por tener un beb\u00e9. He tardado mucho tiempo en quedarme embarazada, as\u00ed que estamos entusiasmados. <\/p>\n

Andy: Me alegro mucho. La verdad es que actualmente muchas parejas tienen problemas para tener hijos \u00bfno?<\/p>\n

Sof\u00eda: S\u00ed, es verdad. Nosotros hemos hecho varios tratamientos. Y el \u00faltimo ha sido un \u00e9xito. Adem\u00e1s nos atendi\u00f3 un m\u00e9dico muy agradable. Tengo una ecograf\u00eda del beb\u00e9. \u00bfQuieres verla?<\/p>\n

Andy: S\u00ed, claro.<\/p>\n

Sof\u00eda: Mmm\u2026 No la encuentro. Creo que la he dejado en mi otra carpeta. Ma\u00f1ana te la ense\u00f1o.<\/p>\n

Andy: S\u00ed, vale. Ma\u00f1ana la veo. Bueno Sof\u00eda, tengo que irme a trabajar a la f\u00e1brica. Perdona, no tengo m\u00e1s tiempo para hablar contigo de tu fant\u00e1stica noticia.<\/p>\n

Sof\u00eda: \u00a1S\u00ed, claro vete! No te preocupes en absoluto. Espero que te recuperes pronto de tu constipado.<\/p>\n
