In this Spanish lesson we are going to look at and practice the different uses of the Spanish present tense. As usual, first we will review some relevant grammar and vocabulary and then see if you can follow a short listening. <\/p>\n

This lesson is part of a Spanish course that practices the grammar and vocabulary first introduced in my Advanced Spanish course posted here on the Transparent Language blog. Let’s test your listening comprehension and see if you can understand a short audio in Spanish. The transcript to the audio will be given at the end of the post but please try not to look at it until you have tried playing and understanding the audio a few times. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Now play the audio to listen a conversation. Can you understand what is being said? Play the audio a few times before you look at the transcript. Don’t worry if you don’t understand every single thing the two people are saying. Try to catch whichever words you can and then try to piece things together to work out what is being said.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Patricia: Tom \u00bfnos tomamos algo en el bar de Pepe?<\/p>\n

Tom: \u00bfAhora? Tengo un mont\u00f3n de cosas que hacer.<\/p>\n

Patricia: \u00bfCosas? \u00bfQu\u00e9 cosas?<\/p>\n

Tom: Pues\u2026Estudiar historia. Tengo un examen de historia de Espa\u00f1a el jueves.<\/p>\n

Patricia: \u00bfHistoria de Espa\u00f1a? Vamos a ver. T\u00fa te vienes al bar conmigo, te tomas unas ca\u00f1as y luego estudias. <\/p>\n

Tom: Que no, que no. Que tengo much\u00edsimo que estudiar y todav\u00eda no he comenzado.<\/p>\n

Patricia: Yo te ayudo en el bar. <\/p>\n

Tom: \u00bfT\u00fa?<\/p>\n

Patricia: S\u00ed, s\u00e9 mucho de historia de Espa\u00f1a. \u2018Los reyes cat\u00f3licos son Fernando II de Arag\u00f3n e Isabel I de Castilla, quienes unifican la corona de Arag\u00f3n y de Castilla y dan lugar a la Monarqu\u00eda Hispana\u2019.<\/p>\n

Tom: Bueno, no est\u00e1 mal. Pero no solo tengo que estudiar a los Reyes Cat\u00f3licos.<\/p>\n

Patricia: Ya\u2026 pero yo te ayudo con lo que sea, que leo muchas novelas hist\u00f3ricas y aprendo un mont\u00f3n sobre historia ley\u00e9ndolas. Venga \u00bfvienes conmigo? Marta y Carlos nos est\u00e1n esperando en el bar.<\/p>\n

Tom: Vale, venga. Voy. Pero solo un rato.<\/p>\n

Patricia: Perfecto. Seguro que aprendes mucho m\u00e1s que estudiando en casa.<\/p>\n

Tom: Eso espero.<\/p>\n
