In this post, you will find Spanish vocabulary to better understand all the current events.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Let&#8217;s start by the word coronavirus. In Spanish, this word is a masculine noun made of two words: corona (crown), derived from Latin, and virus (virus). It received its name from the crown-like structures observed on the virus&#8217;s surface.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Keep in mind that coronavirus remains the same in both singular and plural:<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">El coronavirus es un virus contagioso (Coronavirus is a contagious virus).<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Los coronavirus son objeto de numerosos estudios (Coronaviruses are the main subject of numerous studies).<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">What follows is the ever-growing vocabulary list in everybody&#8217;s mouths today all around the globe:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Aislamiento obligatorio: Mandatory isolation.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Aislamiento preventivo: Preventative isolation.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Aplanar la curva: To flatten the curve.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Asintom\u00e1tico\/a: Adjective referring to a person who shows no symptoms. The English equivalent is &#8220;asymptomatic&#8221;.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Autoaislamiento: Self-isolation.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Brote: Refers to the outbreak of a particular disease.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Cuarentena: Quarantine.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Desinfectar: To sanitize.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Distanciamiento social: Social distancing.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Estar encerrado en casa: To be locked down at home.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Enfermedad transmisible\/contagiosa: A communicable\/contagious disease.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Epicentro: Epicenter. In this case, it refers to the epicenter of the outbreak.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Epidemia: Epidemic.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Epidemi\u00f3logo: Epidemiologist, a person who studies diseases.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Escudo\/protector facial: A facial shield.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Gel antibacterial: Sanitizing gel. It is worth mentioning that alcohol en gel, gel alcoholizado and even desinfectante (de manos) are synonyms.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Infect\u00f3logo: Infectologist, a specialist in infectious diseases.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Ingresados: Refers to people who have been admitted into hospitals.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Inmune: Immune.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Inmunidad: Immunity.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Inmunidad de reba\u00f1o: Flock or herd immunity.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Jab\u00f3n antibacterial: Antibacterial soap.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Levantar la cuarentena: To lift the quarantine.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Mantener la distancia social: To keep the social distance.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Mascarilla: A protective face mask used to cover the mouth and the nose. It is also known as tapabocas or barbijo.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Mort\u00edfero: Deadly.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Organizaci\u00f3n Mundial de la Salud (OMS): Official name for the World Health Organization (WHO) in Spanish.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Pandemia: Pandemic.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Poner en cuarentena: To quarantine.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Portador de una enfermedad: Carrier of a disease.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Propagaci\u00f3n: The spreading of something, in this case, of a disease. The word diseminaci\u00f3n can also be used in this context.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Recuperarse: To recover from an illness. Reponerse y curarse are also widely used.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Resurgimiento: The resurgence of something, like a disease.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Reca\u00edda: A relapse. This noun is often used with the verb sufrir (to suffer).<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Reabrir un pa\u00eds: To reopen a country, referring to its borders.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Respirador: Respirator.
