In this lesson of our English Spanish Parallel Texts course and we are going to practice using the days of the week in Spanish. Start by reading the text in Spanish below. The English translation is provided later but please try not to look at it until you have read the Spanish version various times and tried your best to understand it.<\/p>\n

There may be some words and phrases in the text that you are unfamiliar with, but you should be aiming to capture the main essence of what is happening. There will always be words and phrases popping up in real-life situations that you have never heard before, so it is important never to get too distracted by details.<\/p>\n

If you want to investigate some of the words you don\u2019t know with a dictionary that would be great, please do, but do this after trying your best to understand with what you already have in your head.<\/p>\n

\nJavier: Bastante bien. Aunque me he roto la mu\u00f1eca.
\nEva: No lo sab\u00eda. \u00bfC\u00f3mo te lo has hecho?
\nJavier: Jugando al baloncesto el lunes pasado.
\nEva: \u00bfTe duele mucho? Pobrecito.
\nJavier: Antes s\u00ed, pero ahora est\u00e1 mucho mejor.
\nEva: No recuerdo, \u00bferes diestro o zurdo?
\nJavier: Soy zurdo y, como ves, me he roto la mu\u00f1eca izquierda.
\nEva: Entonces no puedes escribir.

Javier: Hello Eva, how are you?
\nEva: Well, how about you Javi?
\nJavier: Pretty good. Although I have broken my wrist.
\nEva: I didn\u2019t know. How did you do it?
\nJavier: Playing basketball last Monday.
\nEva: Does it hurt a lot? Poor thing.
\nJavier: Before yes, but now it\u2019s much better.
\nEva: I don\u2019t remember, are you right-handed or left-handed?
\nJavier: I\u2019m left-handed and, as you see, I\u2019ve broken my left wrist.
\nEva: So, you can\u2019t write.
\nJavier: I can\u2019t write, or do many other things. I can\u2019t work either. I am off work for at least three weeks.
\nEva: That\u2019s good, isn\u2019t it?
\nJavier: Yes and no. I don\u2019t love my job but \u2026
\nEva: Who loves their job!
\nJavier: Well, my cousin Fernando does. He is a soccer player. But I think he only trains on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
\nEva: Yeah, but that\u2019s not very normal.
\nJavier: Yeah. Well, the thing is, I\u2019m super bored. I can\u2019t do the things that I normally like to do.
\nEva: Relax. Why don\u2019t you watch TV all day?
\nJavier: Yeah, I\u2019m watching a lot of television. But normally I don\u2019t watch hardly anything and I don\u2019t know what programs are good.
\nEva: I am an expert. I watch a lot of TV. Let\u2019s see \u2026 Mondays Survivors, it starts at nine, on Tuesdays S\u00e1lvame Deluxe, it\u2019s on almost all afternoon, on Wednesdays Big Brother, starting at ten, on Thursdays Masterchef in the afternoon and Women & Men at noon, on Fridays \u2026
\nJavier: Wait, Eva. Thanks for your help, I haven\u2019t seen any of these programs, but they sound like realities or gossip programs. I don\u2019t like junk television like S\u00e1lvame.
\nEva: What do you mean kid! I love S\u00e1lvame. It is very good. I think they show some documentaries on Channel Two on Saturdays and Sundays at night.<\/p>\n
