{"id":18,"date":"2008-01-07T09:33:03","date_gmt":"2008-01-07T13:33:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/spanish\/?p=18"},"modified":"2014-07-11T09:59:21","modified_gmt":"2014-07-11T13:59:21","slug":"latin-american-literature-reading-list","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/spanish\/latin-american-literature-reading-list\/","title":{"rendered":"Latin American Literature Reading List"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">As we greet the New Year, now might be just the time to introduce a loved one (or yourself!) to the varied and delicious <b>world of Latin American literature<\/b>.The following is a partial list of some of my favorite Spanish-language novels (in no particular order), all of which are easy to find in Spanish or English.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>One Hundred Years of Solitude\/Cien a\u00f1os de soledad<\/b><\/span>, Gabriel Garc\u00eda M\u00e1rquez<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><i>This is the most famous work by the Nobel Prize-winning Colombian author.The novel chronicles a century in the lives of the Buend\u00eda family, and combines real events in Latin American history with magical realism, the literary device for which Garc\u00eda M\u00e1rquez is most famous. <\/i><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Love in the Time of Cholera\/El amor en los tiempos del c\u00f3lera<\/b><\/span>, Gabriel Garcia Marquez<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><i>Not as renowned as <\/i><span class=\"s1\"><i>One Hundred Years of Solitude<\/i><\/span><i> but personally a more enjoyable read.This novel tells the story of a fifty-year obsession and unrequited love.<\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Pedro P\u00e1ramo<\/b><\/span>&#8211;
