{"id":195,"date":"2009-08-20T15:15:21","date_gmt":"2009-08-20T19:15:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/spanish\/?p=195"},"modified":"2009-08-20T15:15:21","modified_gmt":"2009-08-20T19:15:21","slug":"describing-people","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/spanish\/describing-people\/","title":{"rendered":"Describing People"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We use the verbs <strong>ser <\/strong>(to be), <strong>tener <\/strong>(to have) and <strong>llevar <\/strong>(here, to wear) to describe what people look like in Spanish.<\/p>\n<p>Take a look at these examples:<\/p>\n<p>Es alto (<em>tall<\/em>), bajo (<em>short<\/em>), feo (<em>ugly<\/em>), guapo (<em>handsome<\/em>), delgado (<em>thin<\/em>), gordo (<em>fat<\/em>), tonto (<em>stupid<\/em>), inteligente (<em>intelligent<\/em>), simp\u00e1tico (<em>friendly<\/em>), rubio (<em>blond<\/em>), pelirrojo (<em>red-haired<\/em>).<\/p>\n<p>Tiene los ojos azules (<em>blue eyes<\/em>), el pelo corto (<em>short hair<\/em>), bigote (<em>a moustache<\/em>), barba (<em>a beard<\/em>).<\/p>\n<p>Lleva gafas (<em>glasses<\/em>), pendientes (<em>earrings<\/em>), una camisa blanca (<em>a white shirt<\/em>), un traje oscuro (<em>a dark suit<\/em>), una camisa a rayas (<em>a striped shirt<\/em>), un vestido largo (<em>a long dress<\/em>).<\/p>\n<p>Pablo Neruda, in his Poema 19, from <strong>Veinte Poemas de Amor y una canci\u00f3n desesperada<\/strong>, beautifully describes his wife. It\u2019s about people who have disappeared and it has a very good way of describing people.
