I hope you are also keeping up the practice with your Spanish studies and using some of the things we have already learned together.<\/p>\n<p><strong>In our previous beginner\u00b4s lesson, we covered some vocabulary about the family and looked at el verbo \u201cSer\u201d &#8211; the verb \u201cTo be\u201d.  To follow on, today we are going to see the verb \u201cTo have\u201d &#8211; el verbo \u201cTener\u201d &#8211; and how to use it in relation to the family.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Tener: To have:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>(Yo) tengo: I have<br \/>\n(T\u00fa) tienes: You have (friendly)<br \/>\n(Usted) tiene: You have (formal)<br \/>\n(\u00c9l) tiene: He has<br \/>\n(Ella) tiene: She has<br \/>\n(Nosotros\/as) tenemos: We have<br \/>\n(Vosotros\/as) teneis: You have (group\/friendly)<br \/>\n(Ustedes) tienen: You have (group\/formal)<br \/>\n(Ellos\/ellas) tienen: They have<\/p>\n<p>No tengo: I haven\u00b4t got<br \/>\nNo tienes: You haven\u00b4t got<\/p>\n<p><strong>It is important to know that in Spanish we use the verb \u201cTo have\u201d to say our age. So if you want to ask how old someone is you will say:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u00bfCu\u00e1ntos a\u00f1os tienes?: How many years have you got? \/ How old are you<br \/>\nTengo treinta a\u00f1os: I have thirty years \/ I am thirty years old<\/p>\n<p><strong>Let\u00b4s see more now about the Spanish verb \u201cTener\u201d (To have) in relation to the family:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u00bfCu\u00e1ntos \/ cu\u00e1ntas: How many?<br \/>\n\u00bfCu\u00e1ntos hijos tienes? : How many children have you got?<br \/>\n\u00bfCu\u00e1ntas hijas tienes? : How many daughters have you got?<br \/>\n\u00bfCu\u00e1ntos a\u00f1os tienes?: How old are you?<br \/>\n\u00bfTienes hijos?: Have you got any children? (friendly)<br \/>\n\u00bfTiene hijos?: Have you got any children? (formal)<br \/>\nTengo una hija: I have a daughter<br \/>\nLola tiene tres primos: Lola has three cousins<br \/>\n\u00bfTen\u00e9is hijos?:Have you got any children? (group\/friendly)<br \/>\n\u00bfTienen hijos?:Have you got any children? (group\/formal)<br \/>\nTenemos tres hijos: We have three children<br \/>\nLola y Ram\u00f3n tienen seis nietos: Lola and Ram\u00f3n have six grandchildren<br \/>\nPero: But<\/p>\n<p><strong>This is all for today, I hope you enjoyed the lesson. If you practice what you have learned today alongside the information taught in the last beginners video, where I explained the verb \u201cTo be\u201d and introduced some useful family vocabulary, you will be able to say quite a lot about your family and ask about the families of others. Try to write a few paragraphs about your family using the verb \u201cTo be\u201d and the verb \u201cTo have\u201d.
