That happens when we say we&#8217;ve been doing something for some time in Spanish. Read some examples:<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve been telling you this for a year, but you don&#8217;t pay any attention.<br \/>\n<em>Durante un a\u00f1o te <strong>he estado diciendo<\/strong> lo mismo pero t\u00fa no me haces caso.<br \/>\n<strong>Llevo <\/strong>un a\u00f1o <strong>dici\u00e9ndote <\/strong>eso pero t\u00fa no me haces caso.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Notice that we can use the <em>Pret\u00e9rito Perfecto Compuesto Progresivo<\/em> (haber + participio pasado de estar + gerundio) or the expression <em>llevar + gerundio.<\/em> More examples:<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve been studying Spanish for a year.<br \/>\n<em><strong>He estado estudiando<\/strong> espa\u00f1ol un a\u00f1o.<br \/>\n<strong>Llevo <\/strong>un a\u00f1o <strong>estudiando <\/strong>espa\u00f1ol.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve defended these principles all my life.<br \/>\n<em><strong>He estado defendiendo<\/strong> esots principios toda mi vida.<br \/>\n<strong>Llevo <\/strong>toda mi vida <strong>defendiendo <\/strong>estos principios.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>He&#8217;s been waiting for two hours.<br \/>\n<em><strong>Ha estado esperando<\/strong> dos horas.<br \/>\n<strong>Lleva esperando<\/strong> dos horas.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>How long have you been studying Spanish?<br \/>\n<em>\u00bfCu\u00e1nto tiempo hace que <strong>has estado estudiando <\/strong>espa\u00f1ol?<br \/>\n\u00bfCu\u00e1nto tiempo <strong>llevas estudiando <\/strong>espa\u00f1ol?<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Eso es todo por hoy.
