Fue el principal impulsor de la difusi\u00f3n del mambo en los a\u00f1os 40, e incluso cre\u00f3 un ritmo propio, la batanga.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Considerado el padre del jazz afrocubano, toc\u00f3 el piano con nombres tan grandes como Nat King Cole, Celia Cruz, Benny Mor\u00e9, Guillermo Barreto o Lucho Gatica. En una entrevista reciente hablaba de su primer piano, uno viejo y herrumbroso que su madre pudo comprarle solo porque hab\u00eda ganado tres pesos en la loter\u00eda cubana, y que estaba tan destrozado por la polilla que se vino abajo pocos d\u00edas despu\u00e9s.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">En su carrera hubo dos etapas diferentes: la primera durante los a\u00f1os 40 y 50 en Cuba, y su\u00a0 resurgir musical en los 90 mientras estaba en el exilio, con Paquito D\u2019Rivera y el disco \u201cBebo rides again\u201d. Trabaj\u00f3 por primera vez con el director espa\u00f1ol Fernando Trueba en \u201cCalle 54\u201d, donde se reencontr\u00f3 con Cachao y su propio hijo, chucho Vald\u00e9s. Tras eso, Trueba le pidi\u00f3 que colaborase en \u201cEl milagro de Candeal\u201d y \u201cChico y Rita\u201d, pel\u00edcula que no solo incluye su m\u00fasica, sino tambi\u00e9n fragmentos de la vida del propio Bebo.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">En 2002 grab\u00f3 L\u00e1grimas negras\u201d con Diego el Cigala, una fusi\u00f3n de ritmo cubano y voces flamencas, ganando un Grammy con \u00e9l. He was a driving force for the spreading of mambo during the 40st, and he even created a new rhythm of his own, the batanga.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Considered the father of the Afro-Cuban jazz, he played the piano with such great names as Nat King Cole, Celia Cruz, Benny Mor\u00e9, Guillermo Barreto or Lucho Gatica.
