What? You don’t understand what pasarla regio<\/em> means? Well, you’re not alone and in today’s post I’m going to show you some situations where people don’t understand what was said and use colloquial expressions in Spanish. \u00bfEst\u00e1n listos?<\/em><\/p>\n

Dialogue 01 – Two people talking on the street<\/strong><\/p>\n

A: Perdone, \u00bfsabe si hay un estanco aqui cerca?
\nB: \u00bfC\u00f3mo dice?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00bfC\u00f3mo dice? = Come again? Can you repeat that?<\/p>\n

Dialogue 02 – Two friends watching a movie<\/strong><\/p>\n

A: \u00bfQui\u00e9n es ese? Me he quedado dormido y he perdido el hilo.
\nB: Ni idea.<\/em><\/strong> Yo me perdi hace un buen rato. Esta pel\u00edcula no hay quien la entienda.<\/p>\n

Ni idea = No idea
\nMe he quedado dormido = I fell asleep
\nhe perdido el hilo = I lost track
\nhace un buen rato = a long time ago<\/p>\n

Dialogue 03 – Two friends talking about computers<\/strong><\/p>\n

A: …y luego das a la tecla ALT. \u00bfMe sigues?<\/strong><\/em>
\nB: S\u00ed, s\u00ed, te sigo.
\nA: Bueno, pues luego reinicias y entonces ya tendr\u00e1s el programa listo para usar. \u00bfEst\u00e1 claro?<\/strong><\/em>
\nB: \u00bfY a qu\u00e9 te refieres con “reiniciar”?<\/p>\n

das a la tecla = you press the key
\n\u00bfMe sigues? = Are you following me?
\n\u00bfEst\u00e1 claro? = Is that clear?<\/p>\n

Dialogue 04 – Teacher speaking and students thinking<\/strong><\/p>\n

Teacher: La columelia amoraza en los p\u00e9talos de la crisolita cuando…<\/p>\n

Students:<\/p>\n

– \u00a1A m\u00ed h\u00e1bleme en cristiano<\/strong><\/em>, por favor! Seguro que todas esas cosas tienen otros nombres m\u00e1s conocidos.
\n– No entiendo ni jota.<\/strong><\/em>
\n – No entiendo ni papa.<\/strong><\/em>
\n – No entiendo ni palabra.<\/strong><\/em>
\n– No me estoy enterando de nada.<\/strong><\/em>
\n– A m\u00ed todo esto me suena a chino.<\/strong><\/em> Ser\u00e1 porque nunca he estudiado biolog\u00eda.<\/p>\n

hablar en cristiano = to speak plainly
\nNo entiendo ni jota \/ ni papa \/ ni palabra. = I don’t understand anything.
\nenterarse = to realize, to notice
\nsonar a chino = to sound Greek<\/p>\n
