Let’s finish the week with a very useful verb form in Spanish: I was going to do something. We use the imperfecto of verb ir<\/em> (iba, ibas, iba, \u00edbamos, \u00edban, \u00edban<\/em>) + a<\/em> + the infinitive of the main verb.<\/p>\n

Learning tip:<\/strong> try making some sentences of your own using this verb phrase and pay attention to your reading and listening for more examples in real life Spanish.<\/p>\n

\nYou were going to =\u00a0T\u00fa ibas<\/strong>
\nHe was going to =\u00a0\u00c9l iba<\/strong>
\nShe was going to =\u00a0Ella iba<\/strong>
\nIt was going to =\u00a0Iba<\/strong>\u00a0(no subject in Spanish)
\nWe were going to =\u00a0Nosostros \u00edbamos<\/strong>
\nYou were going to =\u00a0Vosostros \u00edbais \/ Ustedes iban (plural)<\/strong>
\nThey were going to =\u00a0Ellos (masc.) \/ Ellas (fem.) iban<\/strong><\/p>\n

Yo iba a comprarme<\/strong> una chaqueta, pero no tuve tiempo.
\nI\u00a0was going to buy a jacket<\/strong>, but I didn\u2019t have time.<\/em><\/p>\n

Ibas a contarme<\/strong> lo que pas\u00f3 pero no me lo contaste.
\nYou\u00a0were going<\/strong>\u00a0to tell me <\/strong>what happened, but you didn’t.<\/em><\/p>\n

\nHe\u00a0was going<\/strong>\u00a0to travel to Spain, but he didn’t have money.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

\u00c9l no iba a hacer<\/strong> eso de ninguna manera.
\nHe\u00a0wasn\u2019t going to do<\/strong>\u00a0that at all.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u00bf\u00c9l se iba a casar<\/strong> con ella en junio?
\nWas<\/strong>\u00a0he\u00a0going to marry<\/strong>\u00a0her in June?<\/em><\/p>\n

Ella\u00a0iba a dar clases<\/strong>\u00a0en aquella escuela al comienzo del a\u00f1o.
\nShe\u00a0was going to teach<\/strong>\u00a0at that school at the beginning of the year.<\/em><\/p>\n
