As I don’t like it very much, because I’m very sensitive to cold, and I’m not very good at fighting, I have memorized all the arguments I have read in a newspaper today in order to convince everybody how unhealthy it is to use the air-cooling system.

Air conditioning is bad for your health. It would be a good idea to create free spaces of air conditioning, in the same way as we have no smoking places in public buildings, or at least to have the possibility of opening windows.

Air conditioning is bad for the environment. We need a lot of electric power to make it work, and we also have the problem of dangerous CO2 emissions and the global warming. Its systematic use can increase the temperature in 1,5 º or 2 º in summer in a city as Madrid.

Air conditioning is bad for your pocket. With the crisis we have, if you care about your family budget, you will have to restrict its use.

Air conditioning is bad for the neighbourhood, or at least for your unfortunate neighbours who doesn’t have air cooling system at home. The machine is in the street, so the noise and the heat that comes from it is shared… and they make uglier the urban landscape.

“There was life before air conditioning”. Our ancestors lived without it, and it wasn’t so bad. Maybe its use is only our way to impose upon the environment and its seasons, trying to look for a permanent spring.

There are individual and cheaper alternatives to the air conditioning: to take a shower, to use a fan (electric or manual), to open windows and sunshades, and to close curtains; not doing physical exercise during the hottest hours; to drink a lot of liquid and to consume fewer fats

Air conditioning is a fix, not a solution. It would be more sensible, logical, cheap and ecological to have buildings prepared for energetic saving. Buildings preserving the heat in winter and supporting the fresh air in summer would be the best solution.

Summer is here, and one of the bloodiest battles we can have at home, or in the working place, begins: the battle to control the air conditioning.
