We’re back with the second part of body idioms. This post will be totally dedicated to la cabeza <\/strong>(the head). Check it out!<\/p>\n

1. ser la cabeza pensante<\/strong> \u2013 to be the brains. (Es la cabeza pensante de la banda.<\/em> \u2013 He’s the brains of the band.)
\n2. tener la cabeza dura<\/strong> \u2013 to be stubborn, obstinate (Vaya cabeza dura que tiene ese hombre.<\/em> \u2013 That man’s so stubborn.)
\n3. cabeza de turco<\/strong> \u2013 scapegoat (Buscaron un cabeza de turco para evitar que el esc\u00e1ndalo afectara a todo el partido.<\/em> \u2013 They looked for a scapegoat to avoid the whole party being affected by the scandal.)
\n4. en cabeza \/ a la cabeza<\/strong> \u2013 in the first place. (Nuestro equipo va en cabeza.<\/em> \u2013 Our team is in first place.)
\n5. agachar \/ bajar \/ doblar la cabeza <\/strong>\u2013 1. to lower one’s head, in sign of respect (Dobla la<\/em> cabeza ante el rey.<\/em> \u2013 Lower your head before the King.) 2. to lower one’s head, due to shame (Cuando descubrieron sus mentiras, baj\u00f3 la cabeza.<\/em> \u2013 When his lies were discovered, he lowered his head.)
\n6. apostar \/ jugarse la cabeza <\/strong>\u2013 used to indicate that one is certain about a particular outcome. (Me apuesto la cabeza que se marcha del bar sin pagar.<\/em> \u2013 I bet my head he’s going to leave the bar without paying.)
\n7. calentar la cabeza<\/strong> \u2013 to worry about something. (Ya se arreglar\u00e1, no te calientes m\u00e1s la cabeza.<\/em> \u2013 It will be be all right, don’t worry about it.)
\n8. darse con la cabeza en la pared <\/strong>\u2013 to kick oneself, literally to bang one’s head against the wall.\u00a0 (Por haber perdido esa oportunidad, ahora se da con la cabeza en la pared. <\/em>\u2013 He’s kicking himself for losing that opportunity.)
\n9. de cabeza<\/strong> \u2013 1. to be worried about something (Con la reforma de la casa andamos de cabeza.<\/em> \u2013 We’ve been worried because of the remodeling of the house.) 2. headfirst, completely (Su mujer se meti\u00f3 de cabeza en el mundo de los negocios. \u2013 His wife got herself completely into the business world.)
\n10. escarmentar en cabeza ajena <\/strong>\u2013 to learn from somebody else’s mistakes (Aunque se lo advert\u00ed, nadie escarmienta en cabeza ajena.<\/em> \u2013 Although I warned them, nobody learns from somebody else’s mistakes.)
\n11. \u00edrsele la cabeza <\/strong>\u2013 to feel dizzy (Mi abuela no puede bajar las escaleras mec\u00e1nicas porque se le va la cabeza.<\/em> \u2013 My grandma can’t climb down escalators because she gets dizzy.)
\n12. meter la cabeza<\/strong> \u2013 to get yourself hired (Meti\u00f3 la cabeza en el banco y ahora es director de la sucursal.<\/em> \u2013 He managed to be hired in the bank and now he’s the branch manager.)
\n13. rodar cabezas<\/strong> \u2013 used to indicate that someone is going to be fired (En este departamento van a rodar cabezas.<\/em> \u2013 People are going to get fired in this department.)
\n14. sentar la cabeza<\/strong> \u2013 to settle down (Cuando era joven me gustaba ir de juerga, pero despu\u00e9s de casarme, sent\u00e9 la cabeza. <\/em>\u2013 When I was young, I liked to party but after I got married I settled down.)
\n15. sub\u00edrsele a la cabeza <\/strong>\u2013 1. (of an alcoholic drink) to take effect (No bebas vino que se te sube a la cabeza.<\/em> \u2013 Don’t drink wine, because it’s going right up your head.) 2. to become vain or snobbish (El dinero se le ha subido a la cabeza.<\/em> \u2013 Money has gone up to his head.)<\/p>\n
