No s\u00e9 vosotros, pero cuando yo era peque\u00f1a era tan c\u00e1ndida como para creer que podr\u00eda ganar alguna discusi\u00f3n con mi madre. Para mi desesperaci\u00f3n, ante argumentos tan irrefutables como \u201cSoy tu madre, no me repliques.\u201d era imposible. Yo sol\u00eda pensar que hab\u00eda una serie de argumentos que eran invenci\u00f3n propia de mi madre, pero para mi sorpresa me di cuenta de que las madres de mis amigos usaban respuestas parecidas en situaciones similares. Es por lo que creo que debe existir alg\u00fan tipo de manual secreto.<\/p>\n<p>Sin embargo, cuando creces, te das cuenta de lo educativas que eran sus observaciones. Nos ense\u00f1aban:<\/p>\n<p>1. Los principios de acci\u00f3n y reacci\u00f3n: <strong><em>Como te caigas, cobras.<\/em><\/strong> (Un azote, con seguridad)<\/p>\n<p>2. Medicina: <strong><em>Esto me va a doler a mi m\u00e1s que a ti.<\/em><\/strong> (Lo cre\u00eda igual que a mi dentista cuando afirma: No te doler\u00e1\u2026)<\/p>\n<p>3. Religi\u00f3n: <strong>R<em>eza para que esa mancha salga de la alfombra.<\/em><\/strong> (No hab\u00eda persona m\u00e1s piadosa que t\u00fa al o\u00edr esto.)<\/p>\n<p>4.\u00a0 A mantener la postura correcta: <strong><em>Te voy a enderezar de un guantazo.<\/em><\/strong> (Sonaba igual que \u201c\u00a1Firmes!\u201d durante el servicio militar; sobre la marcha dejabas de hacer lo que estuvieses haciendo.)<\/p>\n<p>5.\u00a0 A conocer el lado dif\u00edcil de la madurez: <strong><em>Si ya eres mayor para trasnochar, tambi\u00e9n para madrugar.<\/em><\/strong> (El particular sonido del despertador los domingos por la ma\u00f1ana.)<\/p>\n<p>6.\u00a0 Fuerza y voluntad: <em><strong>Estar\u00e1s ah\u00ed sentada hasta que te lo comas todo.<\/strong><\/em> (Y su variante Si no te lo comes para almorzar, lo tendr\u00e1s para cenar.)<\/p>\n<p>7. A ser precavida: <strong><em>Aseg\u00farate de que llevas ropa interior limpia, por si te pasa algo.<\/em><\/strong> (Pr\u00e1ctica, pero desagradable conexi\u00f3n\u2026)<\/p>\n<p>8. L\u00f3gica:\u00a0 <strong><em>Mam\u00e1, \u00bfqu\u00e9 comemos?\u00a0 &#8211; Comida.<\/em><\/strong> (\u00bfQu\u00e9 otra respuesta esperabas?)<\/p>\n<p>9.\u00a0 A buscar un buen trabajo: <strong><em>\u00bfCrees que soy la due\u00f1a del Banco de Espa\u00f1a?<\/em><\/strong> (\u00bfAcaso no lo era? Conseguir pasta para salir el s\u00e1bado por la noche era tan dif\u00edcil como conseguir un pr\u00e9stamo hoy d\u00eda.)<\/p>\n<p>10.\u00a0 Meteorolog\u00eda: <strong><em>Parece que pas\u00f3 un hurac\u00e1n por tu cuarto. \u00a1Ord\u00e9nalo!<\/em><\/strong> (Y t\u00fa te mov\u00edas tan veloz como el viento\u2026)<\/p>\n<p>11. El arte de la sugerencia: <strong><em>\u00bfEst\u00e1s llorando? Como me hagas ir te voy a dar un buen motivo para llorar\u2026<\/em><\/strong> (No mam\u00e1, no son l\u00e1grimas, son gotas de agua, me estaba lavando la cara\u2026 Muy efectivo.)<\/p>\n<p>12. Vocabulario: <strong><em>Pero&#8230; &#8211; \u00a1Ni pero ni manzana!<\/em><\/strong> (Siempre pens\u00e9 que esta era invenci\u00f3n propia de mi madre, y era sumamente efectiva para poner punto final a mis objeciones.)<\/p>\n<p>Estas son tan solo un ejemplo. \u00a1Hay muchas muchas m\u00e1s!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Is there any <em>Mothers Quote\u00b4s Dictionary<\/em> or something like that? I don\u00b4t know you, but when I was a child I was so naive to think that I could win an argument with my mum. To my despair, with arguments as indisputable as \u201cI\u00b4m your mum, don\u00b4t answer me\u201d, it was impossible. I used to think that there was a series of statements that were my mum\u00b4s invention, but to my surprise I realized my friends\u2019 mums shared the same responses in similar situations. That\u00b4s why I think there has to be any kind of secret manual.<\/p>\n<p>However, when you grow up you become aware about how educative their observations were. They taught us:<\/p>\n<p>1. The principles of action and reaction: \u00a0\u00a0<em>If you fall down, you will get it\u2026<\/em>\u00a0 (A spank, presumably).<\/p>\n<p>2.\u00a0 Medicine: <em>That will hurt me more than it will hurt you.<\/em> \u00a0(I believed it as I believe my dentist\u00b4s affirmation: You won\u00b4t feel any pain\u2026)<\/p>\n<p>3. Religion: <em>Pray for the stain in the carpet to be easily cleaned\u2026<\/em> \u00a0(There was no more pious person than you when hearing this)<\/p>\n<p>4. To keep a correct posture: <em>I\u00b4ll straighten you up with a slap!<\/em> (It sounded as \u201cAttention!\u201d during military service; you stopped doing whatever you were doing on the fly)<\/p>\n<p>5.To know the difficult side of adulthood: I<em>f you are old enough to pull an all-nighter, you are old enough to wake up early.<\/em> (Particular alarm clock sound on Sunday mornings)<\/p>\n<p>6. Strength and will: <em>You will sit there till you eat it all.<\/em> (With the variation\u2026 \u00a0If you don\u00b4t eat it for lunch, you will have it for dinner.<\/p>\n<p>7. To be foresighted: Be sure your underwear is clean, in case you have an accident. (Practical, but disgusting connection\u2026 )<\/p>\n<p>8.Logic: &#8211; <em>Mum, what do we have for lunch? &#8211; Food!<\/em> (What kind of answer did you expect?)<\/p>\n<p>9. To look for a good job: <em>Do you think I\u00b4m the owner of Bank of Spain?<\/em> (Wasn\u00b4t she? To get some money to go out on Saturday evenings was as hard as to have a loan nowadays.)<\/p>\n<p>10. Meteorology: <em>It seems that your bedroom was hit by a hurricane. Tidy it!<\/em> (And you moved as fast as wind to do it.)<\/p>\n<p>11. The use of irony: <em>Are you crying? If you make me go I\u00b4ll give you a good reason to cry\u2026<\/em> (No mum, they are no tears, they are water drops, I was cleaning my face!)<\/p>\n<p>12. Vocabulary:\u00a0\u00a0 <em>But\u2026 &#8211; Neither but nor apple!<\/em> (I know it has no sense in English.
