Largo means basically “long”, talking about width or duration. Check out some examples:<\/p>\n

\nWe still have a long way to go before arriving.<\/em><\/p>\n

Se me hizo muy larga la pel\u00edcula.
\nThe movie was very long to me.<\/em><\/p>\n

Despu\u00e9s de largos a\u00f1os de no saber nada de \u00e9l, un d\u00eda apareci\u00f3 de repente.
\nAfter several years of not knowing anything about him, one day he showed up unexpectedly.<\/em><\/p>\n

Largo<\/strong> also has several very interesting idioms!<\/p>\n

1. cara larga<\/strong> – cara seria o enfadada (long face)<\/em><\/p>\n

Despu\u00e9s de la derrota, los jugadores volvieron al vestuario con caras largas.
\nAfter being defeated, the players came back to the locker room with long faces.<\/em><\/p>\n

2. a la larga<\/strong> – con el paso del tiempo (in the end, eventually)<\/em><\/p>\n

A la larga, no s\u00e9 si ser\u00e1 muy interesante.
\nEventually, I don’t know if it will be very interesting.<\/em><\/p>\n

Hace efecto a la larga, tendr\u00e1s que tener paciencia.
\nIt will have effect eventually, you’ll have to be patient.<\/em><\/p>\n

3. a lo largo (de)<\/strong> – en sentido longitudinal (lengthwise, along, throughout)<\/em>; durante (during)<\/em><\/p>\n

P\u00e1rtelo a lo largo en vez de a lo ancho.
\nSplit it lengthwise instead of widthwise.<\/em><\/p>\n

Me gusta pasear a lo largo de la orilla del r\u00edo.
\nI like to take walks along the river bank.<\/em><\/p>\n

A lo largo de todo este tiempo no nos hemos visto mucho.
\nThroughout all this time we haven’t seen each other a lot.<\/em><\/p>\n

4. de largo –<\/strong> desde hace mucho tiempo (happening for a long time)<\/em>; con un vestido de fiesta que llega m\u00e1s o menos hasta los pies (in a long dress)<\/em><\/p>\n

Ese malentendido viene ya de largo.
\nThis misunderstanding has been happening for a long time.<\/em><\/p>\n

Voy a ir de largo esta noche a la cena.
\nI’m going to wear a long dress at the dinner party tonight.<\/em><\/p>\n

5. pasar de largo<\/strong> – no detenerse una persona\/una cosa en un lugar (to go past someone or something)<\/em><\/p>\n

Elena me vio y pas\u00f3 de largo.
\nEle saw me and went past me (didn’t stop!).<\/em><\/p>\n
